Some blocks here in New Zealand can be up to their 3rd generation, planters plant pretty much as soon ASAP. blocks are chosen depending on the grade or species the forest company is after .
It depends mainly on 2 things. 1: What tree is growing here? How fast does it grow? and 2: What is the end product? Are you logging fopr the timber or energy or maybe you are going to make matches? Or paper? How big or mature must the tree be in order for the material to meet your demads? So i guess you can say it varies greatly :)
Great video 4thgen. Are you north or south of the border. I'm in the process of organizing getting my fallers certificate. Been doing it since a young age but finally trying to make certification happen. I hear it's way harder to get here in B.C then south of the border. WCB be strict up here, real strict.
So can someone tell me how this works? is the forest cut down in cycles? i.e. one section is cut down, then another, and another, but in the mean time the first section is left to grow back? if so, how long does it take for that section to grow back ready to be logged again?
best job in the world right here...i absolutely love getting into a big stand like that and driving 5 or 6 at once...shut the saw off and listen to those fuckers fall...nice work brother and stay safe
The one at the end wasn't the same one I talked about earlier, had to wait for the machine to finish building road, the one at the end was when we were putting the right of way in, but there was lots of nice sound spruce in that block.
@Daisymay380 I would try get on the ground crew for one of the heli logging companies around you first. You want to work your way into falling getting experience as you go. But it is a kick ass job just have to always be alert and planning your moves because theres always a couple fallers that get killed every year!
very interesting, is this the same guy felling picea sitchensis in another vid? Good work bra, but rough as a badgers erse. Too many exploding trees (money down) on rocks, contours and stumps - must do better. C'montae, you've got work because you live wherein lies a gamut.
Where as you guys located? And who do you work for? Just wondering cause if I graduate from high school early which would be two and a half years from now then I would love to log with you guys. And I do live in Colorado which we do heli logging in Vail, Colorado. And a lot of it , too.
And these huggers curse you right before they go to Ikea or Walmart to get a new bookcase to put more books about saving the earth on. Most hikers wouldn't last carrying your gear into the places you go either.
to 4thgenfaller have you ever tried husqvarna thats mainly what i run i have 4 372xp saws and 2 288xp i always see you with stihl so what can you tell me about them thanks and good cuttin
Ya no doubt we try to avoid them going wrong way by leaving holding wood all the way across the stump and use a wedge if its sitting back, but sometimes you just have to run! Had a smaller snag the other day around 50' tall just touched it with my saw and it started to fall, no undercut or nothing, started to go down hitting the trees behind me breaking parts off that came back towards me! "Sawyer" must be what "Fallers" are called down in the US...
That tree will go as pulp which can be random length logs. A good faller can judge the grade of a tree before he falls it and will take that into consideration when deciding on where to fall it. Why don't you put up some videos on your page showing us how a "good" faller does it?
did you mean to say hey?, :) now that we're related you'll be watching all my vids:) aren't you excited, I'll be taking some tomorrow just for you sister:)
Ohyawellfuku I know the trees build our house we live in, making us able to breathe. You don't have to explain me that. Tell that to the loggers, cos they seem to not know how important the trees are and they still chop the trees down.
"And it's bucked!" LOL. Struck my funny bone.
Did logging over a decade ago. Love it. Fun job.
nice work lovely trees to havest
Way to go man, that's dropping some nice sticks, awesome!

I have a few falling partners that run husky, whatever you prefer. I find the husky breaks down more often...

THose poor trees that built the house you live in.
Fantastic that trees are just like corn, renewable.
