i remember as a kid when i lived in san diego our cable company just picked up super station wtbs and this match was the very first time i watched NWA and i have been HOOKED ever since and i STILL get get goose bumps watching these classic matches
Yeah. Ironic that if TBS hadn't sold to Vince, that it may have killed the territory system on its own. I knew it was changing when GCW started running in Dayton and Wheeling. That amped up the scamble for national dominance and began the war.
THIS was what pro wrestling was all about! Georgia Championship Wrestling which two weeks later evolved into World Championship Wrestling. I miss those days every Saturday night at 6:05 pm and every two hour show was really worth watching. The day our cable company added the Superstaion from Atlanta it was the best day ever!...JP
No he didn't need that. Brad already was a 2nd generation wrestler with an established name. Greg Valentine was that, Bob Orton Jr. was that, Jeff Jarrett was that, Bret Hart was that, the Von Erichs was that, all needed no gimmicks from other names.
Georgia Championship Wrestling had it going on back in the day! I loved watching this when I was a kid. The only thing they could have done better was have a 20 x 20 ring and tighter ropes. That ring they used was very small, especially for bigger guys, and the ropes weren't nearly tight enough compared to today's standards, but wow that was some great wrestling!
GCW was the creme de la creme. Mid Atlantic was a close second (for me). Never got to see Mid-South nor Big-Time (Texas) but can't imagine either being quite as star-studded nor better executed. CWF and GCW shared a lot of talent - including Gordon Solie, and Crockett and Barnett did too when Ole was booking both. Neat to see the feuds and angles carry across territories. Mr. Wrestling II and Masked Superstar were my faves, though they were mostly nemeses.
@@martindoll5884 they both scared the shit out of me as a 7 year old in 81 watching the Georgia championship wrestling being piped up to new york on the turner network
@@michaelfrazia4569 first time I saw Abdullah was on ESPN when they used to show World Class out of Texas and later AWA. I am with you he scared the living hell out of me. Ah the good ol days
Haha. Bet Gordon corrected II off-mike. Easy mistake since they both worked Florida too. Probably was thinking Jacksonville (which there is one in FL and GA), but Jackson (near Atlanta) is where the house show was scheduled.
Incredible! This is about 40 years old and I was still yelling at the screen!
it can never be this level again
It will never be this great again
This was awesome Georgia Championship Wrestling at it's finest. This was great

Love Stan Hansen! Read his autobiography, fascinating stuff. Seems like a great guy.
As Gordan said, they were worldwide. The original WCW!

They should've gave Brad the Mr. Wrestling mask and have him as Mr. Wrestling III. He has the kneelift that would make II proud.
No he didn't need that.

Brad is wearing his black wrestling boots, that’s rare
stan was just ornery. loved it
Most suspended wrestler next to Abdullah the Butcher. Of course they were both suspended so much so they could go to Japan

Finally had a decent match. For weeks they had Stan & Ole taking on Tom Prichard and a jobber.
A piersixer AND a donnybrook, all in the same match. I loved GCW. I hate Vince.
