- Gate's Laboratory from Mega Man X6 for the Sony Playstation PSX. No damage taken, buster only. Jumper Part equipped. Gates second stage is divided into two sections, each featuring a boss encounter. Once again, corridors are constrictive and there is sometimes very little room to move around, particularly when engaging the Totem-Poles. After clearing the first tedious stage segment, X faces High Max. Unfortunately, the X-Buster alone will not damage High Max. However, you must first land a fully charged buster shot to stun him. This is then followed up by immediately using a special weapon. I recommend the Magma Blade due to range and damage dealt.
Gate is invulnerable to all weapons, including special weapons and the Plasma Shot. He will randomly summon several different colored energy spheres, which spread apart into smaller orbs upon being destroyed. Note the Plasma Shot destroys them in two fully charged shots. These spheres will then break apart, or dissipate, and the remnants will damage Gate. He will also constantly track X around the room, and this provides a method for controlling or strategically positioning him in line-of-sight to the spheres. In all honesty, I had more trouble with Gate than with Nightmare Mother- who is generally regarded as the most difficult boss in the game. Also, you may encounter slight frame rate reduction whenever the red energy spheres are on-screen.

Good example of terrible stage design
First half of the level encourages the Shadow Armour to deal with the spikes
Second half of the stage has a jump that REQUIRES the Air Dash, which makes the stage IMPOSSIBLE as Shadow Armour X and Normal X

It doesn't matter on hindsight. It was hard, but not impossible. In fact, it was challenging in a sense that you KNOW you can pass the stage, but you always make that one mistake that sends you back to square one. However, it did force you to literally rely on muscle memory and pattern recognition not unlike Dark Souls.
I've seen gameplays in the internet that made shadow armor do the what you call impossible leap..

Even though I would consider using the Ult. Armor cheating, it has to be an exception with this game.
This is novel, but it didn't help me when I was looking for help beating this stage using the armors you get without cheating.
@@majikmonkeeWhat would help more is the Ultimate Armour having Infinite Ammo. I find it buzzard that they got rid of the Ult’s Infinite Ammo in X5, but they brought is back in X8 & I believe in that game it works for Charged Shots as well.

I love how at this point in the series, X truly is an Ace. He is highly proficient, well known, and well respected. I love the determination, confidence, and drive that X shows in X5 and X6. Similar to how Zero in the early Zero games has a foggy memory and is somewhat dull and soft, but by Zero 3 and especially Zero 4, he's sharp as a razor and remembers EVERYTHING from the Maverick wars, and regains his personality at that point.

The battle with Gate is so nasty. Managed to beat him today with ultimate armor
Isaac should have been the final boss. Fuck this Sigma, I swear. He is a GREAT villain, don't get me wrong, but it gets annoying seeing Sigma and Ganondorf hijack game after game after game. At some point, they stop being great and just become incompetent when done wrong like this. Sigma didn't deserve to be reduced to this and MMX6 honestly deserved a different a final boss.
Sigma should be dead at x5

Sliider In all honesty how long do you take to mentally and physically train yourself to No- hit these stages?!
Soraroxas 84 these generally take 3-4 days to perfect. i first go through the stage scouting everything out, this means memorizing where every single enemy is, no exceptions. ill probably run a stage 6-7 times just scouting, and taking my time. in my head, i break down the stages into sections and then attempt to perfect each section one at a time. the sections i break down according to enemy placement and shit like that. perfecting the entire stage is a huge task, but seems somehow more manageable when its in sections in my head. it will take a few days to get the stage down to where i can run it nearly perfectly, with a few hits here and there. once im at that point, ill start on the boss. then its just repetition with the boss...over and over and over. once i got the boss down. ill start recording and attempt full runs, which usually takes a day of attempts.

I hate this game. I bought the two collections on my Nintendo Switch and i supposed to finish all 8 games but i'm stuck on this stage. You know what, i'll just jump to MMX8.
its insanely chaotic, and honestly, its a clusterfck (see vid description lol). all the gates lab stages are. i feel ya, it was extremely irritating and took a lot of time to do this. X6 was my least favorite of the series, dont blame ya for ditching this stage.

I had this same argument before about "no damage" on an acid rain stage. It's physically impossible not to take damage here, the acid rain depleted your lifebar. You're still a far better player than most despite that.
Two years later but fuck it.
Even though you take damage, the game doesn't count it as damage taken as shown in the stats after clearing the level

The hell is it with everything in this game looking like the abstract cover of a vaporwave album? The perspective angle of the floors didn't match character sprites, the background didn't feel congruous with the foreground at all, and there were tons of enemies that looked like prerendered 80s CGI.
This game's surrealist backgrounds have captured my imagination since I was a kid. Its deliberate, since the theme of the game from the get-go is the Nightmare warping space and perception thereof. The pre-rendered cg in combination with the palette really aides this affect, giving everything a misty dream-like quality, which fits. I wouldn't call it timeless, but hey I like it. The enemy sprites on the other hand...are really hit or miss.
You know a boss is going to be rough if he looks as if he's sitting in a recliner for the entire fight

No skill required: with falcon just stand under max take a hit if need be with shock absorber, then shoot him after high max expels his armor. Then hit him with magma blade. I had to refill once. Easy peasy
it kind of sucks because you got damaged by the rain so technically there is a little damage taken but your still a hell of a lot better than me

i guess check out my channel. youll see i how i started out and evolved my playstyle and put a good deal of time into these games. i havent done much with it the last few years, because life intervened and switched it up for me lately. i may return yet. but there was a few years of my life i dedicated all my free time to memorizing and perfecting megaman games of all types. lots of nostalgia from my childhood as i have always loved the franchise. for me, it was generally 70% memorization, 25% twitch reflexes and like 5% rng sync for most stages. i still answer comments and questions.

Ah High Max he seemed much easier to fight here with X than with Zero but that still does not change the fact that his health is so high he takes soo many hits. Eh no trash compactors on the 2nd half of this Gates stage? instead you get nightmare rain? odd I always get the trash compactors and sometimes nightmare rain combined with it is the setup character based? maybe it is because I used Zero there.Aah Gate he is one of the coolest villains in the series I wish he didn`t die the way he did he was just so awesome and the game leaves his fate unknown at the end although I like to think Alia fixed and restored him to his normal self afterwards.

***** Ah I see heh we are opposites. I play much better with Zero than with X due to the fact he is a melee fighter and he can get more hits off faster than X and combo. X due to him being a ranged fighter and relying on his charge shots mainly I am not that good with... though I enjoy X6 X Shadow armor is my favorite fast Z saber, immune to spikes and all around great.

Dude your a pro I could never pull that off I hade to used The Z Saber. Did you have any trouble fighting him the first time u played this game? How many tries did it take u to perfect this battle?
Now I feel ashamed for abusing nova strike to get through this stage, nice way of positioning your character and utilizing every frame you had for agility, and man you sure have a thumb that works like you had 3 of them by holding down the square button to charge up your shots and simultaneously dashing and jumping with the X and circle buttons. Subscribed. =D
I used X with Shadow Armor and the Hyper Dash, Jumper, Speedster, Ultimate Buster and Life Recovery Parts. And i Still lose a Lot.

Not to be a killjoy, but I came here looking for help beating Gate and his lab with armor you don't cheat to get, so it was a bit of a letdown for me, nice job just the same. I made short work of the later stages using Ultimate Buster+Shadow Armor.

It’s possible to beat Highmax with out special weapons, you can use the Z-Saber or the Nova Strike
