    Looks like the first Lebel I bought when I was young... Though this one looks a little better. It will need a lot of work, but it can be salvaged. Don't look for a handguard, the Lebel never had one. You will just have to replace the lower sling ring, the original isn't like that. Easy to find, as even the Berthier rifle had the same. And you'll need to find or make a stacking rod on the upper band, or find a complete one. Appart from that, your rifle is complete and is a rather early made one, as the two notches on the hammer tell. Good luck for your job ! Don't forget that in France a Lebel in good condition is now worth more than 1000 euros...

    Looks pretty good. Check if the tubular magazine isn't stuck, has a firing pin and have a good bore.

    Grade C is wall hanger grade.
    Condition is everything if you collect. 🤠

      No, originality is everything. Condition is 2, at best. Dog eared 100% original with what's left of original finish has more genuine collector value than an arsenal reworked, forced match in pristine condition. Lowest value of all is the "restored" cobble jobs done by you "modern collectors", no matter how pretty you make them.

      @@ludditeneaderthalthank you. I see these people "unsporterizing" guns and acting like they're the same as an original and it's a huge pet peeves of mine because it's just going to lead to people getting ripped off

      @@shoelessbandit1581 well, these idiots have created a market dynamic where a Mosin force matched arsenal rework in nra good physical shape fetches 700 bucks, so "ripped off" is pretty much the norm. But, what can you expect from the beanie babies generation?

    Hell yeah buddy, I made a video on exactly one of these not long ago. If you're making gun content, solid sub from me.
    Yours has some rough finish, but the wood is not busted up which is amazing! I think it is complete too, I didnt see any missing parts.

    If the bore is bad good luck. I bought a grade B when the had them. Decent bore but a good deal of pitting and they wire wheeled it (I think they stopped doing that, not on my last couple guns). Got a good 1890 date though. Only thing missing was a front sight blade. I may end up having to make one. Wish I would have saved a bit and bought a hand select regular one.

      For 50 bucks, I won't hesitate a minute. Sure, this rifle is really in bad condition but it can be salvaged. And if you can't, it'll give you quite a few useful spare parts. Here in France, a good Lebel in shooting condition is now worth more than 1000 euros !

      @laurentdevaux5617 It's not a good condition Lebel. It's in NRA poor to fair condition. It's a wall hanger. I'm not even sure Numrich would buy it for parts.
      Don't waste your money on these B-C grade rifles. Buy something nice that will appreciate in value. 🤠

    • @laurentdevaux5617
      @laurentdevaux5617 6 місяців тому +1

      @@donwyoming1936 I agree. I didn't say it was in good condition, you said the truth, it's only a wall hanger, but with a little work it can be a good one. If it has been bought for that purpose, then ok. But if I won't hesitate (and you too if you could see it) to fire my own Lebel, I would never fire this one, not because a problem of safety, as Lebels are very strong rifles, but because the bore is probably worn out. You're right, save your money to buy a better one, though it isn't very easy to find a good Lebel at a reasonable price now, not to tell few of them still retain their original barrel, most of them having been refurbished in arsenals in the 20's and 30's
