Him gaining a proper sense of self also lessens said Mystery as one needs Mystery to fight the Mystic in TM. also what Touko said about the fifth being a (cause) or (effect) is because Basically with true magic there are two types, the magic that was created in order to reach the root (Cause) which is what happened with second, third and fourth magic, And the second type is magic gained upon reaching the root and making a path to it (effect), which is how the first and fifth magic were discovered, and touko is drawing parallels between the two hinting at a future fight between the two, there's lastly a theory very likely in regards to soujyuro's neck and past but i will leave that for when you read the final chapter.
