Babies have a startle reflex and jump at the slightest noise. Often smacking theirselves in the head or face or jerking themselves awake. This prevents that and babies sleep better through the night. My oldest child did this with both babies and they’re just fine and slept sound through the night. Wish this was a thing when mine were infants but had never heard of it until 2010.

My son had a broken arm as a newborn and the hospital don’t do anything for a break at this age, it’s just left to heal by itself without a cast or anything. I would use his cloths to wrap around him and sort of strap his arm to his side but he still managed to get it free all the time and whenever he had a startle reflex and threw his arms up he would obviously scream and cry because it hurt so much 😢 this would have made a huge difference in that situation because it stops them from being able to wriggle out of it and move their arm, but is also comfortable and not too much pressure on the break so it hurts. I wonder if you could approach the medical community and see if it’s something they would be interested in for babies with broken arms?

Honestly I don't like swaddling... I am always thinking they were in mom's belly for a long time and the place there was getting smaller and smaller and in the end they are like folded and that can't be comfortable 😱. When they are born you can see that they love moving their arms and legs as much as possible. Swaddling is taking their space again not that much as in the belly but still enough 🥺. It looks almost like a straitjacket and I can't imagine that they really like it... Maybe I am wrong but there is another thing I don't like and that are pacifiers... You can see everywhere babys and kids with pacifiers but my three addult kids and my grandchilds never had one... Yes, they could comfort them but if they fell out hell on earth starts for the whole time until they could put it in their mouth alone... I saw the dramas everywhere with running adults put it back in their mouth... That is horrible and crazy cause they can disturb your life massive with that steady in and out 😱😱😱
I absolutely hate hate hate pacifiers and swaddles. I think it is parental laziness. I raised my three without them and they turned out amazing adults. Swaddles are literal torture and pacifiers are just horrible.

Ive never used/done something like this. My daughter was born in 1988. I never saw this. On the other hand. My father born in 1925, his mum did this with him. Im norwegian. Its called in norwegian : Å reive barnet. It was done very tight. People were thinking it was important so the arms and legs developed right. Some do it to calm down the baby.. ? But personly ive never seen it done. From Norway ❤

Only 3 of my 28 grandchildren wanted to be swaddled. Yeah I myself didn't like the idea. But some love it others don't I don't like it . Really to each Baby. And THEIR parents. My son and his two babies loved it he was a pro at swaddling them .
