With Sephora reviews it’s a LOT of paid for reviews… I’m always suspicious of the ones that aren’t “verified purchase”.
Even “verified “ isn’t trustworthy anymore! Brands send gift cards so they can “buy” the product and get the verified purchase on the site.

Anytime I use a maybelline fitme concealer I feel very dainty and elegant. Using a chunky concealer like elf camo makes me feel like a kid playing with jumbo crayons 😂

*Long story from my childhood*
When I was about 3-5 yrs old I went shopping with my mom and grandmother at the mall. I remember it was my first time noticing make up counters. I was in awe. That was the real beginning of my love for make up and beauty products. I already loved make up but never knew you could find it outside of the grocery and drugstores. I was obsessed with lipsticks. I mean obsessed! I saw some of the ladies at the counters offering samples of stuff so I ran up to a counter and asked if they had a sample of a lipstick I could have. I was literally trick or treating for make up! 😂 The girl was super sweet about it. Her and her associate sat me up on the counter and proceeded to hold up several different shades. I remember them all being gorgeous. As were the girls. They picked out this toasted raisin kind of shade. They gave me one of the small sample tubes along with a small little thin powder compact and gave my mom and nanny each one of the sample shades of lipstick as well. I left feeling so good! 😂 I wore that lipstick every single day my mom would let me which was pretty much every day. I ended up with all 3 lipsticks at one point. I know it may be gross but I still have the tiny tube with almost no product left in it. I saved it so I could always color match to it. I came across that tube about a yr ago and have periodically been looking for a lipstick similar to it and have yet to find one quite like it. I only get to look in the drugstore though. That Merit shade is the closest I've ever seen to it. I HAVE to try to get one even though it's outside of my price range.
Long story just to say that lipstick got me super excited and brought back that memory lol
Side note I could apply lipstick perfectly without a mirror from that age on lol I never got out of the lip line. That day sparked a fire in me for make up that has never burned out.

This story brought back fond memories of my mom. She was an Avon lady when I was little. That was back in the day when the Avon lady came to your house with little samples. Maybe they still do. Mom would give the little samples to my 4 sisters and I so we could “ do our makeup”. I remember using it to make my cheeks blushed looking. Such fun memories and I kept those little tubes long after they were empty…..they were that special. I’d love to have some again, just for the memories. Thanks for sharing your sweet story.

@kate7621 Yes, The Balm had an eyeshadow palette named Matt(e) something or other, and had a picture of a man on the cover. Each shadow had a man's name. I decluttered it recently. It wasn't the best formula for me to work with, and we had to part ways!😊

Re: the mango people reviews… Sephora reviews are tricky, especially newer products. Go to where you can filter the reviews and click “non-incentivized reviews” or “verified purchase” and almost all the reviews will disappear. 🤔
I like the design of the Buxom pallette because my brain/eyes naturally look for patterns. I don't like it when colors are put together randomly. Most pallettes look "messy" to me.
Last fall I splurged on a Dior holiday kit in a luxe velvet clutch. The un-packaging was so fun, so elegant. I made it into an Event with my daughter (who is in her 20s and also loves makeup). I love Dior, but this was probably the first I'd bought from them in over 20 years. Usually more than I like to spend... but ohhhh how glam it makes you feel. LOL!
I am NOT a make up geek and didn't put on my first bit of it until in my 30s.
I appreciate eye shadow color stories that make it clear what they think you could do and in fact don't tend to buy eyeshadow that does not have a picture showing exactly where they suggest to put different colors. But I also know I am free to do what I want with it.
Except apparently that one mascara....when it says one coat it means one coat😂.

One of my biggest makeup pet peeves is when a stick isn't fully hugged by the tube it's packaged in, inevitably it shifts and scrapes against the sides, and then I get anxiety every time I use it!
The number of lipstick bullets I've sent on my toilet floor because of that. The suction of the sudden pull when you open + a product that is not set properly in it's tube= wasted money on the toilet floor, wall or bowl.😩

Blush is one of the products where I don’t feel a difference between high end and drugstore. At least not with powder blush.
I won't buy huge eyeshadow pallettes because they are overwhelming and full of colors I won't use. I like the 3 pan CoverGirl Shimmering Sands you once introduced. It's a realistic size. 😂

I don't rely on reviews that are almost all from people who were gifted a product in exchange for a review. That's what I always see on Sephora when a product is first launched. I much rather hear Emily tell us what's going on. 😊

If you're looking for older shows 'Any Day Now' is a great show with Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint. It's a touching show. My mom and I watched it together when I was a kid. Being from Birmingham Alabama and my mom growing up during those times of segregation drew us to it.
As for newer shows I've been watching the show Outlander recently. I Love it! It's def not a kid friendly show though. It's not the usual show I'd go for but it's SO good! I just finished Downton Abbey, Bridgerton, and the Queen for the first time too. I absolutely loved those! Another good one is Only Murders in the building. I love Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short in it.

That formula got me through about ten years of my corporate career days, when I was always applying eye makeup while driving bc I was always running late! I'm obsessed with the Dior Lipglow. I've been buying the lip balm for yrs now. I'll get different shades to mix it up. But it feels SO good on the lips, so moisturizing, and I love the slight vanilla mint smell. And lastly I love the tint it gives my lips. It stains them which I love, as I have very pale lips naturally. I've been looking for a cheaper dupe, but haven't had any luck. Even just a decent balm that stains a pretty pink would make me happy at this point.. Because the Dior is just SO expensive!!! But I can't find anything better. Hopefully some day a brand will come out with a decent alternative.

All you have to do is roll the bullet to the top, hold the broken part with tissue and with a lighter, let the flame touch the blush to the bottom of where it should be. It just needs to melt together, but don't burn it. Just do it slowly and carefully.
I use the Caliray Come Hell or High Water like EL Little Black Primer to top mascaras that tend to smudge or flake on me. I was surprised how well that Fenty stick wore on my combo normal/oily skin in the Florida heat and humidity. I have the Baby and Millennial shades in the Merit lipsticks and love them!
I paused this just to find out if you, dear Emily, have NEVER SEEN FELICITY!?? What? Um, yes. Yes, you need to stop and immediately start watching and prepare yourself for some serious crushes on the Scotts (Speedman and Foley). Also, you may start wanting to wear your hair curly, all the time. And will probably start listening to REM. Now go. Go!

That Patrick Ta blush is amazing. The stick Fenty foundation I would love to try. You can take it to the "Em it" anytime you want. So you put two coats of the mascara on?
