I did a Stadium Sprint in 2017. Afterward, I gained about 70 lbs. I've lost 20 lbs in the last six weeks and I'm working on getting back into shape to run Palmerton in July. This video is a good motivator. I can't wait to feel strong again!
First of all congrats! And second your video was the best out of all the other vloggers out there, you showed the entire course which makes it exciting and we know what to expect.
Awesome! I'm sure you'll do great. Spartan tends to make you pickup and carry heavy stuff (Atlas Carry, Bucket Carry, Sandbag Carry), but most of the other obstacles are pretty similar to other races. The only one specific to spartan is the spear throw. We have some videos on that and practice all the time - yet still fail that one occasionally.
@@OCRKings I try to do powerlifting with training for the other races I've done too. Also I did the rugged maniac earlier this year, I'm not sure if y'all have done it or not but y'all will enjoy it
First spartan race I did was at mill springs last weekend. I didn't train at all and it was about 85 degrees and really humid. I didn't even see my time, so I don't really have a reference on how well I did, but I only had to do one set of burpees so maybe that's a good sign, lol. Only thing I would do differently is maybe wear some gloves. The rings, monkey bars, and hoist are terrible on your hands and grip. The bucket carry is also pretty bad if your skinny like me and it digs into your shoulder, lol. I did volunteer work the first day with the army, so my race was free. I'm not sure If I'd do it again without volunteering, 150-200 dollars is a bit much but it's fun.
I did this same race that Sunday in Palmerton. Super fun! The only hard part was going up that hill in the beginning. Wow. That was brutal! Beast in September 💪🏽💪🏽 can’t wait!
Neither Mack nor I wear eye glasses (yet) but we have seen plenty of individuals out there wearing specs. If you can run in your glasses and they don't bother you... you will be fine wearing your usual pair. Just be careful with them during any water obstacles like dunk wall. Don't want to lose them in the muddy water. Good luck and have a great race! Welcome to the spartan life!
I wanted to try this one too but I don't have much time to prepare. I hope i can finish this. But still thinking if i should register. 3 days remaining till the race.
You could totally do a spartan race. Especially a sprint 5k. Go at your own pace and attempt the obstacles - a bunch of them are pretty easy. The harder ones, watch a few people and what they do... and go for it! Get out of your comfort zone a bit, but you will feel amazing at the end of the race! You will not regret it!
@@OCRKings thanks for the words of encouragement. I tried it and finish it. Im so happy. Though i had to do burpees for the monkey bars as some of the bars have wider space so i cant reach them and also for the multi rig. But will train more for this obstacles so i can do it next time i join again. I also took the videos and will be uploading on my channel aswell.
Good question! For all but a select few, it's one attempt. You only get multiple attempts on the rope climb and maybe the herc hoist, and that is not at all locations as far as I am aware.
can somebody help me out, im just wondering if the spartan races like the sprint are timed or is there medals for places sayin i do really well, will i get recognized or no?
Hi there, good question. Yes the races are timed for everyone. Anyone who makes it across the finish line successfully gets their medal. The top 3-5 folks in the competitive waves get money and podium spots. The open waves do not, they only get the generic medal if they complete the race.
Good question - typically it is only one try. If you miss there is a penalty of 30 burpees. Sometimes in open waves (non competitive) the rules are not as strictly enforced and you may get another attempt.
@@OCRKings That's awesome! Not so bad considering I was a first timer. About 1:45, minus a few burpees. Love the content! Thanks for posting! My wife and I are doing Tristate in October!
My kids and I just watched your video ahead of my first race this weekend. All three of us say “well done!”
Thank you, and good luck at your first race! Be safe and have a great time!

Awesome! Keep up the good work, and hope to see you out on the course at Palmerton!!
I saw you had a video posted on Spartan's official UA-cam channel, too. Congrats on that!
Thank you!!
I am planning to do the Sprint next month. This video was very helpful in getting me prepared. Thanks for putting it together.
Glad it was helpful, and have a great time at your race next month!

Finally gonna do my first spartan sprint in November, done many races before but never a Spartan

@@OCRKings how heavy would you say is the Atlas carry?
@@catherineguzman9811 According to Spartan's site, the Atlas stone is 70-80lbs for women, 100-110lbs for men

Only one set of burpees is pretty good, nice job! And thank you for volunteering - AROO!
Going to do my first race in November at Mills Spring. That's a solid tip. 2.5 months to prep should be enough hopefully.

Beast in September 💪🏽💪🏽 can’t wait!
That hill was brutal, you're right! Good luck at your Beast in Sept. Be safe, and have a great race!
Doing my first Spartan this Sunday Sept. 12, super excited!
Awesome! Good luck, be safe, and have a great race! AROO!
@@OCRKings Thanks so much guys!
Great race for sure! AROO Spartans! Grateful to be back out there
Palmerton/Blue Mtn is an awesome location (first time there). So glad to be past the virtuals and at real events again!
Can’t wait to race next month this vid has me hyped.
Hellz yeah! That's why we put these videos up! Have a great race. Aroo!
Great job. I hope next year Spartan comes up with some new obstacles!
I hope so!
This is so helpful. Signed up for my first Spartan Race for August 15th!
Hell yeah! Thanks for watching! Good luck on 8/15! Have fun!
@@OCRKings thanks guys. Absolutely stoked. Been checking out your vids to prep for the sprint 💪🏼
there is a new chapter breakdown feature on desktop. pretty cool, it reads your obstacle titles
Agreed, that is cool. Seems like chrome only though?
I have my first sprint coming up in Atlanta. What does one usually wear for eye glasses who cannot wear contacts?

Thanks!
I did this race on Sunday too. Amazing time and amazing people!
That was a fun event. Wish I did the Super too. Next year.
Prepping for race in October! What type of camera did you use? Thanks for video!
Awesome! Have a great October race! We both run with GoPro 8s.
How many attempts do you get at an obstacle before you have to do the burpees ?

How many chances to do you get at spear throw

We miss this. :(
We still can't have events like these. :(
Still, AROO!
Hopefully soon for you. Really missed these events
This is awesome man! What heat were you at? I was at 1pm
This was the 12:45 heat. How'd you do?

nice video - looking fwd already to next year and ape hanger!
You and me both!
Spartan should make the last/3rd side of Z Walls with triangle holds instead of rectangular.
Great idea! I think its time for some more new spartan obstacles... but if that can't happen, change up the classic obstacles to keep you guessing!
I thought a lot of friends that did this race finished pretty clean. Now I know from that water crossing.
Longest water obstacle -even though it was dunk wall and water crossing together. Wasn't deep but easier to swim at some points.
Next year, Super?
I hope so!
good work
Thank you! Cheers!
I’m in the purple at 0:46 !!
Awesome! Hope you had a great race!
How long was the race for you
My garmin watch said it was 3.56 miles
Good video...terrible music
Thanks! and agree... some of the audio beds are hit or miss. Wish we could use real music but can't without copyright issues.
