Just the other day, Heathrow bid farewell to the last ever passenger 747 based there (G-VROS). The only four-engined passenger aircraft we will see here from now one will come in the form of A380’s.
Anyone remember The Queens Building roof in the 1960s?An absolute spotters paradise.All those prop-liners.Viscounts,Vanguards,DC-4/6/7.Early 707s & DC-8 etc.Plus GA stuff too,Cessna 210s & Queenairs,on delivery.Doves & Daks,all there,right in front of you.It was steady,one after the other.Nice & steady,not frenetic,like today.Telescope,notepad & pencil= one happy schoolboy.
back in the day when Concorde was the queen of the sky i told my dad "Dad i want to fly with that airplane" he said "No worries son i'l take you soon" i haven't even flown with concorde until now :') it's sad how they've gone now.
Ruchira Wishwajith always love that proud livery. People in SriLanka still calls that name. Emirates did fantastic job running the airline but ruined our proudest livery of all time.
1998, it's likely that my son and I were on the roof at T2 during a lot of these videos. We lived in Hanwell and would often spend an afternoon up there during the school holidays. Usually at least one person would have a scanner radio, which we could overhear, and sometimes I took an atlas so my boy learned geography from seeing the various airline liveries and working out where they were going. Happy memories!
This was great! to a lot of people 1998 isn't that long ago but to me it's right back to my childhood when I would spend every school holiday spotting at LHR and patiently waiting for Concorde!
I used to stand in the exact same places for years when i was a kid. Lived 15 minutes walking distance away or bus straight into central to walk to the top of Terminal 2. I think i'd probably buy this DVD for nostalgia of my childhood than anything else.
Sad thing is no 742, 747 so, no bmi, no Olympic, no Concorde, no malev, no bac 11, barely any a340s. Is it sad that even though I wasn’t born at this date, I prefer it?
Also never mentioned the loss of McDonnell Douglas completely. My second favourite airliner after the A340-600 is the MD 11. Sad to see both gone from Heathrow now.
Speedbird Absolutely, it most definitely was. I will always love aircraft and Heathrow but what’s happened to the queen and the beautiful tri-jets 😢 I was there almost every weekend in my youth looking forward to the far eastern flights coming in with their 747s, now look all you see is twin-jets
It would've been a mess if they returned this livery, cuz today, Star Alliance is far larger than it was in 1998 and it will be hard to cramp the liveries of all alliance members into one single plane (except of slapping their logos along the fuselage the same way they did on another Star Alliance Livery from 1999)
Amazing! I remember all those airlines (some of which are now non-existent) like Cyprus Airways, Olympic, Sabena, GulfAir......I used to fly from Heathrow on my summer holidays with my parents and seeing this film mamkes me very nostalgic
p3d_aviation this was when Macau 🇲🇴 was still under Portugal 🇵🇹 before Macau 🇲🇴 was given to China 🇨🇳. At 2:47, if you can see closely this A320 has a Portuguese Registration. Okay?
Swissair, Olympic, Malev, Cyprus Airways, British Midlands, Sabena etc R.I.P. I have fond memories of the observation deck back in my London days. Btw some shots must have been taken from inside the Renaissance hotel, the elimination of noise from triple glazing windows is characteristic. Great place to plane spot.
I got my first job on a YTS in 1986. I saved every penny and worked 7 days for my first flight to LHR from Edinburgh. All I did was stay at the airport, but I loved every minute. Made a point of going once a year myself, just for spotting after that, until 9/11 changed everything off course. Great memories...
"NO WAY BA/AA" ERRR.....now owned by AirFrance/KLM and DELTA! Remember "4 Engines for long haul" And "We're Better by 4".... Now flying all TWIN engine aircraft As from years ago!
LHR was a heaven for 747s at this period. 747s were in fashion. No one thought that 20 years later they would become a rare sight
Bring back 747's.
😭

Indeed!

We've just got to hope that Boomjet and some of these other start-ups can really take off.
That Qatar A300 - almost a tail strike!
Was thinking that
1976-2003 was the best time to plane spot because we had Concorde
Luka Kraft and the 747
Yup, we spent a lot of time on the roof at T2 and also in the beer garden at the Green Man!
That air Lanka at the end was 🔥🔥🔥 .Miss that old livery
Ruchira Wishwajith always love that proud livery. People in SriLanka still calls that name. Emirates did fantastic job running the airline but ruined our proudest livery of all time.
holy shit it's the concorde

Star Alliance members painted some planes like that 15 years ago... the 1st livery is who the plane always belonged to...
This was great! to a lot of people 1998 isn't that long ago but to me it's right back to my childhood when I would spend every school holiday spotting at LHR and patiently waiting for Concorde!
Kevin Andrew me too, pure nostalgia
Very nice video! I thought it was very weird seeing Air Macau - CS-MAH - at LHR, but then I searched it up, and it was leased to TAP.
Alot of 747 in 90s
What’s happened to the 747-200, sometimes I hate change
The Game Boy they’re all unsafe and retired, no airlines want them anymore
Gxyness they werent unsafe, they were just getting old and the airlines adopted the modern versions of the queen
DOUT0R M that’s not the only reason, it’s about the high rises of the cost of the fuel and production
me too
Well, as airplanes get older, finding parts gets harder and harder, and they will lose their efficiency.
:) yes.. Part 2 coming tomorrow with a few more memories :)
3:14 really interesting!
SAS: Star Alliace livery
Glad you enjoyed it :)
This Air Macau A320 at 2:50 flew for TAP Portugal in 1998.
I used to stand in the exact same places for years when i was a kid. Lived 15 minutes walking distance away or bus straight into central to walk to the top of Terminal 2. I think i'd probably buy this DVD for nostalgia of my childhood than anything else.
The added sound effects made every plane sound exactly the same 😂😂 whooooooshhhhhh.
Added sounds?

That's what I was wondering. Long way from home

No, stuff Concorde, 'tis all about the Queen of the skies, the gracious 747.
Sad thing is no 742, 747 so, no bmi, no Olympic, no Concorde, no malev, no bac 11, barely any a340s. Is it sad that even though I wasn’t born at this date, I prefer it?

It's you.

Justin Hopkins s
Camera mics were worse.
Says Lufthansa United various air Canada and Thai airways plane 777
Planes look so much better with painted fuselages. Now they are all white with painted tail and titles slapped on the windows... ugly!
Air Macau? I thought they didn't fly to London... or whatsoever...
I think it was a delivery flight. Anyway it is very nice and interesting to see an Air Macau bird in LHR.
I think so...
That aircraft was operated by Air Portugal in 1998. Portuguese registration gives it away.
Oh
1990-2005 was the best time to plane spot...
Why?
Diversity!
okay thx
Speedbird Absolutely, it most definitely was. I will always love aircraft and Heathrow but what’s happened to the queen and the beautiful tri-jets 😢

tanay.oldis gold .
0:31 Today's kids will never know the howling boom as she flew overhead.
I wish I would have known :(
MrSupercar55 Supersonic travel is not a dead idea so today’s children most likely will be using these constantly.
All because of that damn DC 10, we will never het to see this plane again.
@@pieseldatches it’s because of 9/11
@@pieseldatchesI would have rather they fixed a dangerous problem than left it flying for 10 more years dangerously
Awesome video....liked ol' Virgin Atlantic's No Way BA/AA slogan....hehehe...
:) our pleasure!
3:20: a 767 with 4 airline names in it: impressive👍👍👍
6 or 5 btw. and it's SAS airlines with a star alliance livery.btw I LOVE the old star alliance livery.cant believe that they took it off :(
6
I think you mean 6
It would've been a mess if they returned this livery, cuz today, Star Alliance is far larger than it was in 1998 and it will be hard to cramp the liveries of all alliance members into one single plane (except of slapping their logos along the fuselage the same way they did on another Star Alliance Livery from 1999)

Gulf air still exists
2:47 Air Macau A320 in Heathrow?! o.O
p3d_aviation this was when Macau 🇲🇴 was still under Portugal 🇵🇹 before Macau 🇲🇴 was given to China 🇨🇳. At 2:47, if you can see closely this A320 has a Portuguese Registration. Okay?
Thank you! We love our subscribers and love to get new ones every day!
JustPlanes Two Heathrow haters
JustPlanes 1:53 Wow! Didn't know Swissair operated A321s!
Wow, so many old planes and airlines. My favourites: BAC 111, CONCORDE, swissair, sabena :)

The Olympic airbus a300 is from my homecity Athens.
what better a collection than today's LHR - brilliant video
Varig Brasil sweet memories to me
You guys should have been around in the late 60/70s on the Queens building plane spotting spent hours there!!!
Good days I spent so many hrs at LHR as a kid. I was there in the trident days & queens building times.
Wow Air Macau A320 on Heathrow?!? How many stops could it have taken?
Swissair, Olympic, Malev, Cyprus Airways, British Midlands, Sabena etc R.I.P. I have fond memories of the observation deck back in my London days. Btw some shots must have been taken from inside the Renaissance hotel, the elimination of noise from triple glazing windows is characteristic. Great place to plane spot.
Aris M isn't swissair still around?
Rosso Marshall Sort of, it was replaced by ‘Swiss’
I got my first job on a YTS in 1986. I saved every penny and worked 7 days for my first flight to LHR from Edinburgh. All I did was stay at the airport, but I loved every minute. Made a point of going once a year myself, just for spotting after that, until 9/11 changed everything off course.
Great memories...
Ahh yes when 4 engine jets could be seen all over the airport, how times have changed.
The diversity of aircrafts back then 😍
Beautiful Air Canada 747 and Varig MD-11
Livery @3:14 : undecided
1998-2004 is the best of both worlds.
A 707 still around
I miss the old Gulf Air livery. 2001 flew to Dhaka, BD from Paris on Gulf Air A340. Those were the days.

Planespotting was definitely better back then!!
