I remember my first time going there was for a Ringling Brothers concert when I was 5. Then in 2012 I watched my first NBA game there where the Warriors beat the Wizards by like 20 points. I remember it was a pretty nice, well kept up arena and I don’t remember it showing age in any way (unlike the Coliseum next door). I think the diamond design on the exterior is quite iconic, even a bit timeless. It’s just sad seeing that arena go from “Roaracle” to being pretty much abandoned now with no teams playing there. Its just sort of forgotten about nowadays. Especially when you think about the situation with the Coliseum that is in the same complex. There was supposed to be an Indoor Football League team playing there but plans for that fell though and they’re playing in San Jose now. I really hope Oakland gets a WNBA franchise sometime soon. Oakland Arena would be a perfect location for them. It would also help give the arena new life.
I would put Nassau Coliseum on this list too. Once UBS Arena opened up, Nassau Coliseum has really been sitting there empty. Outside of hosting a G League team and a lacrosse team, nothing goes there.
@Rick Bouze the two tenants that play there barely get a crowd to any of the games. The teanets that do play there can easily play elsewhere. Most big events go to UBS arena now. Outside of some small concerts or low profile shows.

Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale used to house the Arizona Coyotes, but now they don’t have a tenant. I still like to go and revisit the arena when I can.
The Coyotes were kicked out of the arena in Glendale because they fell so far behind on their rent and other bills. Glendale finally said "fuck this" and gave them the boot.
T-Mobile center is a beautiful building and a great place to watch almost anything far from useless definitely underutilized also it was the clear inspiration for the Tottenham Hotspur stadium they just built it was designed by the same architects firm and I have to say that too is a beautiful building
CFG Bank Arena here in Baltimore just reopened a month or two ago after a major renovation. Currently has no sports tennants. Previously held the Baltimore Blast who are currently playing in the Secu Arena on the campus of Towson University, Baltimore Bullets who are playing in the Capital One Arena as the Washington Wizards in Chinatown in DC, and had many American Hockey League teams.
It's been about 20-25 years since I saw a WWE Raw (or maybe Smackdown) show at that place, but wasn't it previously known as the Baltimore Arena? I'd say it was pretty useless then, especially after the AHL team left town.
tbf to the BOK Center, it is serving the purpose it was built for. It was built in response to Paycom going up in OKC to attract better concerts and shows, and it did succeed there. The goal was to be a top tier concert venue and it did very much succeed there, often getting bigger shows than Paycom. It also hosted the NCAA wrestling championship this past year, often hosts some NCAA tournament games, a couple OU-Arkansas basketball games, and normally one preseason Thunder game a year. It doesn't have any big permanent tenants but it was never supposed to.
As an Okc resident this is true. Paycom is the better sports venue but BOK blows Paycom out of the water in concerts. It’s a lot nicer and definitely made for multipurpose events. OKC’s Paycom was made with sports in mind first. However I would love to see Tulsa get a hockey team despite that seeming unrealistic. It’d be cool to have the NBA in OKC and the NHL in Tulsa. Both cities would get major support
I don’t think the Greensboro Coliseum is “useless” because the fact the ACC headquarters is there, but their HQ is moving to Charlotte. The Tacoma Dome is known more as a concert venue. The funny thing is the roof is made out of wood.
Greensboro Coliseum is fine as is and where it's at. No professional team is moving to the Piedmont Triad. Too small. It has hosted many legendary WCW and WWE events and tons of concerts as well.
For the love of God, can you learn the difference between Stadium and Arena? They are not interchangeable terms. Arenas (like the t-mobile centre) are NOT stadiums. But the Tacoma Dome IS a stadium. So It shouldn't even be on this list. As for the ECHL, it is the AA version of a developmental/farm system hockey league to the NHL.
Sullivan arena in Anchorage alaska is pretty useless right now. It was home to a semi pro hockey team but it left in 2017 I think. It used to host the great alaska shootout but it ended in 2017, it used to host everything but it got replaced by alaska airlines center. Now it's used as a homeless shelter but that's getting shut down. Now it's almost rotting.
Oakland Arena is actually more profitable since the Warriors left. The Warriors had a great/cheap lease. With the Warriors gone, the Arena is now able to sell concert/event tickets for 41+ additional dates.
The most useless Arena is the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, VA. If you thought The Diamond is bad, the Richmond Coliseum is much worse. It's been sitting abandoned waiting demolition the past few years because Richmond didn't want to maintain it and acts didn't want to book it.
Oakland arena is a great looking arena it aged like wine. It also went through a major renovation the warriors made the the city of Oakland pay for just to leave the city high and dry
Those major renovations were before the current ownership took control and decided to build in SF. They had some minor improvements done but nothing major. The City owns the building so they have to maintain it. Not all sports teams own their own buildings. Cities have obligations if they own a building and are collecting rent. Can't blame the teams.
I was thinking that too, for being built in 1966, it was an architectural marvel at the time of construction. Vast majority of Arenas built between WWII and the 90's barely had any glass at all, never mind most of the whole exterior being glass.
The BOK Center was never intended to be the home of a sports team. It was built for concerts and special events and it sometimes will host a part of the NCAA basketball tournament and the OKC Thunder usually play a few games there each year
Greensboro Swarm (NBA GLeague) doesn't play in the main coliseum - they play in the adjacent Fieldhouse, a much smaller venue. The Carolina Cobras do use the main coliseum, and I think fill about 10% of the seating capacity.
You left out the Long Beach Arena and Anaheim Arena (formerly Convention Center) in California, about 20 miles apart. Both were built in the 1960s, haven't had any major upgrades, and hasn't had any sports teams there for years.
BOK Center in Tulsa hosts a lot of concerts. Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, and Foo Fighters are just some acts who have played there. It seems like Tulsa gets more big concerts than OKC. From a sports point of view, I agree that it's underutilized and may never get an NBA or NHL team (Tulsa's WNBA team left a long time ago).
The Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) are also based there. I just wish they would play in a little smaller venue. Going to several of their games, they have Mark off parts of the upper deck though!
@@Boi-xc4dk Isn't there an arena in Norman, though, that's on or near the OU campus? If so, I'd assume that the OKC metro area could get arena concerts while the arena where the Thunder play is otherwise occupied.
Honestly the OKC Thunder G-League affiliate should move to Tulsa and use the BOK Center as their home stadium. If I'm not mistaken they currently play in OKC.
Add SNHU arena in Manchester, NH to this lost. They haven't had an ECHL team in 5 years. 11,000 for hockey. Here's the shows they get. Holiday Boston Pops, Monster Trucks, Harlem Globe Trotters, and 1-2 concerts. What a waste of an arena. This place use to be packed.

Memorial Coliseum in Portland is useless. It's basically there for budget concerts now. It is literally a stone's throw from the Rose Garden/Moda Center.
Echl games are fun. The colorado eagles in loveland used to be in the echl before transferring to the ahl. There was always high attendance. So i wouldn't call the bok arena useless
@@rockvilleraven also at the acc tournament they didnt sell alcohol so it had a nice family atomosphere and people were there for the basketball or for the team and not to get drunk
I agree about the Greensboro Coliseum (I'm a resident). The expansion was forced on us to keep the ACC tournament in town. Only by adding more event centers and some shady political dealings was the expansion bill passed. Last I saw the G league team played in one of the annexes, not the main coliseum. It is far too large for our population, especially with Charlotte and Raleigh nearby. On the plus side we did set, at the time, a minor league hockey attendance record at over 20,000. The NHL Hurricanes played here for two years but attendance, due to many reasons, was atrocious. Who wanted to support a team that wasn't staying?
@@GoalHornGeek, it's actually a pretty good multi facility complex. It's just that the coliseum is too large for the area. Reduce capacity to about 12k-15k by removing the top half of the upper deck would be perfect IMO.

It has been a massive financial success for the city of Tulsa & has brought acts to the city that previously skipped the area. U2 began their last tour at BOK, Bruce Springsteen, Garth Brooks, Celine Dion,...... have all performed there. It has hosted multiple NCAA tournaments, NBA & NHL exhibition games. The Tacoma Dome or Oakland Arena belong on the list, Bank of Oklahoma Center doesn't. Your criteria of an arena having to host a pro team is severely flawed....
What about the Gila River Arena, now known as desert diamond arena. It used to host the Arizona Coyotes.
The Greensboro Coliseum was the flagship facility of Jim Crockett Promotions back in the day. It hosted multiple Starrcade events.
That's what I was thinking. I was born in 84 and remember renting old NWA video tapes. Is that the arena Sting fought Flair to the time limit draw
Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale used to house the Arizona Coyotes, but now they don’t have a tenant. I still like to go and revisit the arena when I can.
Why don’t the coyotes play there anymore
The Coyotes were kicked out of the arena in Glendale because they fell so far behind on their rent and other bills. Glendale finally said "fuck this" and gave them the boot.
T-Mobile center is a beautiful building and a great place to watch almost anything far from useless definitely underutilized also it was the clear inspiration for the Tottenham Hotspur stadium they just built it was designed by the same architects firm and I have to say that too is a beautiful building
Heritage Bank Center in Cincinnati is pretty useless all it has is the ECHL Cyclones and occasional concerts
I would say the Gila River Arena in Arizona because it’s a relatively new arena that has no major sports tendant and is only used for concerts now
Following you logic, I would have included Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon. No main tenants, situated right next to Moda Center, etc
Tacoma is in use alot. Was just remodled 2 years ago
3:24 “catoma dome” then dude keeps cutting the audio short and why does he talk that with so much emphasis? tf is it with this guy😂
You can say the same thing about the whole state of Alaska 😅😅😅
Forgot the Izod center in the Meadowlands.
It's not being used as an arena anymore, it's a soundstage for TV shows and a practice arena for touring concert acts.
The Caps in the early 1980s almost were sold and moved to Tacoma, had that happen, they'd would have moved a few miles to Seattle eventually.
Oakland Arena hosting magic shows. Is it Sparky the Clown?
He said Magic Shows twice...what is he talking about.. lool
Of Course it's a Magic Show ,They Make the Audience Disappear.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣@malcorub
oakland arena is not getting knocked down every redevelopment idea shown for that area shows the arena staying with the coliseum gone
Your voice is brutal to listen to.
The Forum in LA too. But being in LA, it probably does actually have events to host.
Since Steve Ballmer owns both the Forum and the Intuit Dome, I fear that he might decide to have the Forum demolished once the new arena opens.
The Forum is a concert venue now, not a sports arena.
Catoma Dome?
Love your content man!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love your content and your takes on stadium architecture, keep it up! And don't be so depressed!
Forgot the Memorial Coliseum in Portland. National Historic property so they can’t tear it down.
Yeah, that was such a fucking stupid decision. Can't even be RENOVATED either, I don't believe.
Coliseum site is fan friendly with Bart station very close along with Interstate 880 so it's not embarrassing at all.
The inside is 💩.
I was thinking that too, for being built in 1966, it was an architectural marvel at the time of construction. Vast majority of Arenas built between WWII and the 90's barely had any glass at all, never mind most of the whole exterior being glass.
The BOK Center was never intended to be the home of a sports team. It was built for concerts and special events and it sometimes will host a part of the NCAA basketball tournament and the OKC Thunder usually play a few games there each year
The catoma dome 😂
Greensboro Swarm (NBA GLeague) doesn't play in the main coliseum - they play in the adjacent Fieldhouse, a much smaller venue. The Carolina Cobras do use the main coliseum, and I think fill about 10% of the seating capacity.
If he's gonna do these videos, he needs to be spot on. Also, calling these arenas useless is kinda strong.
@@LoweDown414 and to also do his research on leagues teams play in. The ECHL is some rinky dink leave, it’s the AA of the NHL
Wtf was the point in building Glendale Arena if they no longer have a sports team?
I saw it happen.
They dont need to do anything to the tacoma dome it is a nice place so is the oakland arena
You left out the Long Beach Arena and Anaheim Arena (formerly Convention Center) in California, about 20 miles apart. Both were built in the 1960s, haven't had any major upgrades, and hasn't had any sports teams there for years.
They don’t like to spend money
@@dreamcage1801 Both cities realized the arenas were obsolete and spent their money by attaching convention centers to them.
I was thinking about that too. The Forum in Inglewood could apply but it only does concerts now
Steve Balmer owns the forum he bought it from the People that own Madison Square Garden So I don’t think they’re doing anything with it
BOK Center in Tulsa hosts a lot of concerts.
We get more concerts because OKC has the Thunder occupying the arena
The Tulsa Oilers (ECHL) are also based there. I just wish they would play in a little smaller venue. Going to several of their games, they have Mark off parts of the upper deck though!
@@Boi-xc4dk Isn't there an arena in Norman, though, that's on or near the OU campus? If so, I'd assume that the OKC metro area could get arena concerts while the arena where the Thunder play is otherwise occupied.
@@moose2021 No, the OU basketball arena is aweful
@@Boi-xc4dk Ok. Not suitable for concerts, I assume. I wonder what OKC did for concerts before the Thunder's arena was built.
People still do magic shows? Lol
Freedom Hall looks like a mall from outside… Like the Palace Of Auburn Hills.
Also the newly renovated CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore. Only going aftrer concerts and Entertaiment events.
When I was a kid back in the late 70's I loved watching the Warriors on tv from their home arena. The loved the court and The Forum court.
8:33 "Hey you want to go to an Oilers game?"
"sure!"... *gets to arena* "Wait I thought they played hockey."
Honestly the OKC Thunder G-League affiliate should move to Tulsa and use the BOK Center as their home stadium. If I'm not mistaken they currently play in OKC.
What about the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis?
Add SNHU arena in Manchester, NH to this lost. They haven't had an ECHL team in 5 years. 11,000 for hockey. Here's the shows they get. Holiday Boston Pops, Monster Trucks, Harlem Globe Trotters, and 1-2 concerts. What a waste of an arena. This place use to be packed.
Nycb Nassau coliseum
Was remodeled to attract concerts and the circus....its opening night tenant...the last ever Ringling bros circus...can I get a DOH!
Had the isles back for a year and a half cuz barclays can't fit a hockey rink so it did have some luck...but with opening of UBS arena right on the queens County line (and with direct lirr and ny bus access for fans from queens) bye bye winter concerts (summer concerts already were a no go dating back to the arenas first opening due to the 15k seat Jones Beach amphitheater 10 miles straight down the Meadowbrook which is a superior and go to summer concert venue hosting up to 4 shows a week in peak summer months) and its only major tenants is...a G league team that draws maybe 4k tops...oh to be 5th of 5 12k plus arenas in the ny metro...they don't even get the college team next door hofstra who is happy in their well sized 5k gym yeah...shoulda been torn down when isles left but there was an outcry and they did get a huge kiss of life when Barclay's proved unviable for hockey but with ubs thriving its time for the moseluem to finally you know...die
The Dome in downtown St. Louis is still used for other events. But for sports, it's been basically obsolete since the Rams left.
Memorial Coliseum in Portland is useless. It's basically there for budget concerts now. It is literally a stone's throw from the Rose Garden/Moda Center.
Did you have audio issues? there were words cut-off throughout the video. I notice many audio issues allover youtube right now.
NAL stands for National Arena League and the ECHL is a minor hockey league a level below the AHL
Oakland Arena looks like a fema prison from the outside
Echl games are fun. The colorado eagles in loveland used to be in the echl before transferring to the ahl. There was always high attendance. So i wouldn't call the bok arena useless
There's debate in KC that commiting 45ish nights to a pro team may not help the bottom line
There's also the Meadowlands Arena, the former home of the New Jersey Devils and Nets. It doesn't even host any sporting events or concerts today.
Didn't they convert it into a sound stage for tv and film?
@@NYOlly15 yes, it's used to shoot TV shows.
I can’t imagine these arenas make money with no regular tenants, but I understand a city wanting a nice place hold larger events.
T-Mobile and the BOK Center are beautiful arenas that serve more than just sports. T Mobile is one of the busiest arenas in the country.
Magic shows?!?! 😂
I disagree about greenboro, it is being used and it has a cozy feel to it
It was the temporary home of the Carolina Hurrican'es until the arena in Raliegh was finished.
@@rockvilleraven I liked how you could walk to your seat from the street in a couple of minutes. At MSG it akes a long walk to get inside

Tmobile Center looks on the interior a lot like the Prudential Center in Newark
Best college basketball arenas or football stadiums?
I’m surprised you didn’t throw San Diego Sports Arena in this.
Something I don't understand is why Oakland doesn't tear down oracle snd build a baseball park there
ECHL east coast hockey league
The ECHL is a hockey league. The NAL is an arena football league. Google is your friend and free.
CHI Health Center Omaha
SIMMONS BANK NEEDS TO UPGRADE THE INTERIOR AND REDUCE THE SEATING CAPACITY. THEY NEED BIGGER SEATS AND MORE ROOM BETWEEN ROWS
Greensboro Coliseum did host the Carolina Hurricanes for a bit
At least Greensboro has the Aquatic center
@@GoalHornGeek, it's actually a pretty good multi facility complex. It's just that the coliseum is too large for the area. Reduce capacity to about 12k-15k by removing the top half of the upper deck would be perfect IMO.
@@ucumari77 When it's used for NCA&T graduation it's at 100% capacity. They can't make it smaller, just curtain off the top level for smaller events.
3:24, "But the Catoma Dome"
The “Catoma Dome” 🤣
One arena I'm surprised wasn't in here was Cure Insurance Arena in Trenton, NJ.
Because it is Trenton new jersey
This commenter wouldn't know Trenton if it fell on him
Seattle Center [Climate Pledge/Key Arena] should be here
Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale Az should be on this list
Arenas are capable of hosting events other than NBA and NHL games. The BOK Center and TMoble Center in particular have been very successful as concert venues. To say that they are “useless” because they do not host a major league sports team is ignorant and arrogant.
Lots of magic shows.
So no pro sports makes a stadium “useless”? 😂
I would love to see an NBA team play at the T Mobile Center.
You missed KC’s second arena. Kemper arena which is big and used for absolutely nothing
Wasn't it demolished?
