"I usually give it a taste 'cause I don't measure. My ancestors tell me to stop but sometimes I don't hear anything so I mess it up". Lool
The true Asian
Admit it, a lot of us do that when cooking
I saw this little bit on tiktok a week ago😂. It was a black guy tho.
@@jonjonajonathan6294 you honestly think only Asians can do that? Try developing an actual personality other than "being Asian"
@@jonjonajonathan6294 everyone does that
“Hi it’s Rie!”
My skin: cleared. My stress: gone. My heart: doubled in size. 🥰

"Nobody's gonna tell me how to make it besides me...and maybe my grandpa and grandma and mom and dad" I can just visualize every Asian watching this go "yup yup yup"
wow, alvin's looks reaaaally flavourful and rie's noodles' COLOURS!!! oh my god... rie's looks really light??? would love to try both of them😭😭
They both look so good! I think I'd rather eat Alvin's, but Rie's looked so bright and fresh.
*Rie puts chopsticks to stop water boiling over*
My chemistry brain: 👁👄👁
I need to know the science
@@marcya4428 Me too!!!!
here i googled it for u guys
When something hydrophobic (i.e. unable to absorb water) punctures the surface of a bubble, it subsides. A dry wooden spoon destabilizes the bubbles when they come into contact with its water-repelling surface. This makes the boiling water retreat.
@@bryanj.varian4036 thank u so much! That was very useful!!!❤
Rie's Tare sauce recipe:
+15mL sugar
+15mL mirin
+60mL rice vinegar
+60mL soy. Bring to a boil to dissolve sugar.
+45mL water
+45mL sesame oil
+juice of half a lemon. Refrigerate.
thank youuuu
‘I don't measure’ the most asian thing ever . ❤️ It
indians are asian dont separate yourself yo
Indians are asian too 👀
More like people who know how to cook regardless of where they are.
Unless they're making something you can't check if it's right until it's done and you've never done before.
@@Hwyadylaw let ppl have their fun lol
Actually, every cooking mom around the world. 😊
The Japanese aesthetic everytime Rie presents her dishes never failsss
R u japanese?
I mean, Rie is the one whos always saying "You eat with your eyes"
My Asian self being confident -
✨ There’s no one who can tell me what to do……. other than my grandma , grandpa , mom or dad ✨
My mom - Don’t forget your aunts and uncles !
I feel u. Whatever they say we gotto agree even though it has no sense at all
Lol
@@lashgash789 sounds sad
I love how Alvin talks about the sugar. I never put it in my Asian sauces I made, and the more videos I watched it was that magical missing ingredient. And he's so right.
I kinda like the accent when Alvin speaks Chinese, it's cute🤪❤️
the ABC accent loll
I'm not chinese but the way alvin constructs his resonates my inner asian and rie's pot...NEED
I love this channel. It’s mature, calming, all the videos are excellently made and the context is fantastic. I’ve learnt so much about food from these videos and I just love the vibes.
Alvin: ...it's my dish and nobody is gonna tell me how to make it besides me.
And maybe my grandma and grandpa and mom and dad. Anyways...
😂😂🤣
Alvin just has to spill things while cooking 😂😂😂
alvin looks *chef’s kiss* in that new haircut
JUST TRIED ALVIN'S RECIPE. HOLY **** TOOK ME TO ANOTHER WORLD ! 100/100 RECOMMEND
PLEASEEE NEED THE RECIPE/MEASUREMENTS 🤣
hi what ratios did you use to make the sauce?
@@duru_mii @reyner hey guys, sorry I didn't used a proper measurements. I use do it by feel 😅😅. Depends on your taste, I like it salty so I put more soy sauce. Sesame oil is a must have. If you can, put a whole garlic in the oven to roast for 30mins, mash after, game changer. I've done it so many times till this point. And my Chinese mom approves 😂
Do you still need it? I made an approximate ratio from what I saw on the video(excluding the garlic) and tried it out, and it was good
@@jonathanyunawan7171 yes please
LOVE the way Rie explains each step just like someone who has written a cookbook before. I am here for it and will be trying these noodles ASAP!
"My ancestor's tell me when to stop" priceless, dish looked great. Going to have to see if I can find some of those noodles. Rie what were the components to the sauce????

The baking soda and chopsticks hacks both blew my mind.
2:01 For those who turn on the CC and didn’t catch what alvin said, he said “Lao Gan Ma” chilli oil
Is this caption auto or did someone make it its so lazy "spealing foreign language"
Alvin's cooking videos: art 👨🍳🤌
Alvin's talking videos: webcam 🤪
Watching this made me hungry yet nostalgic all at the same time 😩🤣
These dishes look so beautiful and refreshing
Both of these recipes are so creative! Love them :)
Alvin's recipe would make Uncle Roger proud...no measuring and MSG!
FUIYOH!
Exactly. This is my grandmas wooden spoon hack. 🥰 it works amazingly
The hand cut noodles (刀削面) that Alvin uses is my absolute favourite kind of noodles to cook with at home! His recipe is quite similar to my family recipe, except we also add in julienned cucumbers, homemade Sichuan chili oil (for more kick than 老干妈), and cilantro! Definitely important to cook the noodles slightly undercooked so it retains the chewy QQ texture!
QQ !!
Are those noodles something you can buy at like H Mart or similar stores?
@@nikhildeo9415 I haven’t looked for them in H-Mart. They’re a pretty Chinese-only noodle type, so you would have better luck in a Chinese supermarket.
@@jingjinglan I see that makes sense - thanks!!
The spaghetti-to-Soba hack is something I'm going to have to try.
Being Chinese - All Alvins comments hit me right in the feels. (and I kind of felt attacked too) :)
I'm going to have to try both recipes now.
did the hack work? i want to try it but im not sure if it tastes good
@@random_thing- it does! Be sure not to put too much baking soda into the water though, especially if you don't plan on rinsing tho noodles. It's very convenient, since I can't find good ramen noodles at my normal grocery store, and it's always so over priced, a problem in most states in America.
@@yoons9294 you know what the funny thing is, I did try this hack and I did add too much baking soda and didn't rinse the noodles so I was just left with not good tasting ramen but oh well, thanks for the advice, I will try again and make sure to keep those things in mind for sure
Please I was so confused I was like “is today Saturday 👁👄👁?” But I’m happy they posted
I adore you, Alvin. Thank you for this.
Two of the best people ...was waiting for this duo again
The video I didn't know I had to watch on 10:08 AM (Where I live) on a Wednesday, but I refuse to continue my day without watching it
Alvin, those are the best noodles i have ever seen. Everything that i adore
I tried Alvin's recipe and it's *so good*
Can you guys do more videos like these? It really inspires me to make my our recipe and also makes me hungry lol
Thank you! 💜
When I was a child, I made Indomie instant noodle, the Soto one. And to make it chill, I added ICE CUBES :D
I'm a simple person, I see Alvin and Rie in a video and I click it
I love Skippy Super Chunk! I used to hide it a bit from my husband, just getting a small jar here and there but anytime I had it I would demolish it so fast, eating it and cooking with it. When our shifts changed he started doing more of the shopping and I put PB on the list. He came home with the BIGGEST jar of Skippy I had ever seen outside the Costco 2x pack. He said that was the next step after I solo'd that whole giant jar in about a month
alvin looks so refreshing and cute to look at.
My grandpa would make cold noodles with just peanut butter, black vinegar, and sesame for me as a child! (Even with just those ingredients it was super delicious and I would ask him to make it all the time!) Thanks for sharing your version, Alvin!
Thanks for the idea, Alvin! I've been meaning to recreate peanut-based cold noodles here in Taiwan, but everytime think of doing it, I end up just ordering because it's so cheap and everywhere. I'm definitely gonna try your version.
Can't wait to try these! I might have to order some of those first noodles online.
are we just ignoring the chopsticks over boiling water hack then
I think it's because it breaks the tension on the surface which prevents it from boiling over
These both look amazing and I will totally try both! I have never had a cold noodle dish!!!
The Korean one is also super good. With the crystal clear broth.
With fresh perfectly chilled Kim Chee and sides, especially Taegu.
I love Rie and her recipe but alvin gives me a nostalgic feel with his recipe about my college days in China😩💕
Alvin just made the perfect noodle for me (with the exception of Liang Pi, which is the worlds best noodle dish). Those knife cut noodles, the peanut butter, the garlic, the black vinegar, even my favourite Laoganma flavour with the fermented beans! Perfection!
Alvin, a useful advice (in case you aren't already doing it): put a damp cloth/paper towel under your chopping board, it won't slide and you'll avoid injuries!
Ahhh!!!!!! I love the noodles that Alvin used - super tasty
Cant wait to try your recipe, Alvin! Cheers :)
I love Alvin! He never disappoints.
alvins one looks amazing
Cold noodles are so delicious in the summer. Super refreshing!
Alvin noodles looks so goooood 🤤
A couple of advices for boiling pasta: put salt only AFTER it's boiling, as salt water takes longer to reach boiling temperature; it's not a biggie if the water boils "too much", as long as there's enough water for the pasta to boil in and you stir it regurarly, because the only thing that could happen is evaporation. Also, putting things on top of the pot might repel nearby bubbles but won't change the temperature of the water.

they have cured my depression. thank you 😍
I just cannot seem to make good cold noodles so I am excited to use your recipes, thank you!
Thank you for sharing the trick Rie! I'll give it a try :))))
Can't wait to make Rie's noodle dish came summer, I love tomatoes and cucumber.
Craving chilled noodles: thanks Alvin and Rie for sharing your recipes. Is there anywhere to find the written steps and measurements? I definitely have to try the baking soda hack ;)
Love love lovee this
Will make both. Thank you!
Dislikes are from people who don’t cook.
Please share what recipes you will be using!
I love seasonal stuff🤤
cant wait to make these
I've only been living in Japan for two and a half years, but YEAH whenever the cold noodles show up in the combini, I'm like 'oh no... Summer Approaches.' Ditto with oden. You know it's winter when oden is out. And steamed buns!!
My mother always had somen in the fridge for us to eat in the summer. Rie, thanks for the easy tamagoyki recipe! Have made it several times now.
I'm addicted to these people and just them cooking 😔
Any time I see Alvin I'm like anxiety lifted because I know it's gonna be a chill time. I like you to rie, you're pretty funny 🤣
Adding baking soda , really helped thank uu rie❤️
We made both. I have tried hiyashi chuka at a restaurant so I have a peg. For the peanut noodle, we just followed the instruction, both tastes great !

subtitles: ‘’I’m using two legs, one teaspoon of sugar’’
that ramen hack looks awesome. I have to try it sometime.
Everything spicy is tasty
Hiyashi Chuka is THE BEST way to start summer menu!! Domo Rie!
My go to cold noodle dishes are zaru soba and somen!
3:18 I really like to use a microplane or regular grater for very fine garlic and ginger
Love hiyashi chuuka! I make a version with goma sauce as one of the ingredients and I usually put ice with the noodles at the end of washing to really cool it down and remove the ice when I'm ready to finish the dish.
Both looked so good 🤤
Rie, thank you for the very useful hacks haha 😆🙆🏻♀️
Inspirational. T. Hanks!
Those both looked awesome! Mine are so plain I make 🤣 just some garlic, soy sauce and gochujang mixed with some of the salted pasta water. Add toasted sesame oil and scallions and cilantro. Takes less than 5 minutes to put together and so yummy 😋
i miss u, rie!!! T^T been binge watching alvin and inga's videos and i thought about u
Much love from Indonesia
I usually make something similar to Alvin, but using sesame paste instead of peanut butter, then also adding blanched spinach, tomatoes and matchstick-cut carrots and cucumbers, like Rie.
I wanna try both Alvin & Rie's recipes!
🤤 brb gotta go pick up ingredients to make Alvin's noodle dish...it looks amazing 🤩
Damn that chilled noodles looks so good
I was really curious about that mortar and pestle Rie uses in the video. It's apparently called a suribachi and I think I have to order one 😄
cold leftover Mac & Cheese that's all I can do but that's why the good folks on this channel are experts
Looks delicioussss I’m Taiwanese and my family does a similar style peanut sauce cold noodle but with different toppings
I don't have any chilled noodles I eat often ... but I do eat cold spaghetti pasta sometimes
Live that Baking Sida Niifle Hack. Thanks ✌️ ✌️
Alvin & Rie are excellent cooks! they know what goes well together~
thanks a lot for the neat tips!
I'm really gonna try putting peanut butter in my sauce for chilled noodles,
and I'll also try adding baking soda to cook spaghetti to make it taste like ramen...
btw, I also love the texture of knife cut noodles! they're very "QQ" too, haha~
I love chilled soba noodles 😋
When I saw this video- I immediately thought: ah yes, Rie will definitely make Hiyashi Chuuka, I wonder what Alvin will make?
I was right! Yes!!
Both look delicious!
I like my hiyashi chuka with sesame dressing. Also make it plant-based so sweet corn or abura age instead of egg & mixed beans, panfried tofu or seasoned muhrooms instead of ham.
Will try the spaghetti hack.
Love from Nepal 🇳🇵
"It has vegetables" Where, alvin, where are there vegetables XD
I loveeeee cold soba!
