Thank you for all the content you put out as it truly does help many students like me think and learn more, not only about Oxford but generally too. Please always make such lovely, high quality and informative videos and have a great day.

Thank you so much for an incredible week with some amazingly interesting lectures from yourself and the other academics that were brought in. The whole experience was an excellent insight in to Oxford university life, and has made me even more hungry to study here!

    Thanks for your tips and recommendations to get into Oxford. I do understand the insecurity you mention in the video; that has been happening to me a lot. I'm now applying to Oxford as I have always wanted, but now that the deadline is closing down, I feel I won't be able to get in, and that feeling has prevented me from developing my personal statement. I frequently postpone it because of my fear of being rejected.
    I simply feel I don't have enough skills to be competitive (although people tell me I do) and, as I am not British, I have doubts about my chances.
    Nevertheless, I have been following your channel for a long time now; it really helps students prepare for college. Keep up the incredible work!

    Hi Dr Williams! love your videos they are extremely helpful! would i be delusional in thinking an otherwise good candidate would be immediately struck off if they had only 4-5’s at GCSE?

      Hi there, thanks for your comment! With GCSEs we contextualise the results. Meaning that we seek to understand why someone obtained results that may not represent their abilities. This will be necessary if there is a gap between good predicted A-levels and a mixed bag of GCSEs. We are aware that all sorts of factors affect GCSE performance that go beyond academic ability (such as educational disadvantage, illness etc). So, in answer to your question, we wouldn't simply dismiss an application on grounds of relatively poor GCSEs before very carefully ascertaining if a candidate nonetheless possesses the academic ability and potential to enjoy our courses.

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  10 місяців тому +1

      Great -- you likely meet the eligibility criteria. GCSEs are considered, but it's not uncommon for applicants to have a mixed bag of mediocre GCSEs for a number of reasons. Work on any admissions tests that may be needed for your chosen degree. Start developing some passions in your subject that you can become a bit of an expert on. Good luck!

      It says the following on this website (www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/undergraduate/courses/admission-requirements/uk-qualifications):
      "Foundation courses
      Competition is very strong for places at Oxford. Although a foundation year course may be accepted in certain circumstances, we recommend taking different qualifications in order to make the strongest application. This is especially true if your chosen course has specific subject requirements. You can check these requirements on the course page.
      For a foundation year course to be accepted, you would need to make sure that the course covers the same content as any required A-levels to the appropriate standard. If it does not, you will need to take alternative qualifications. If you would like further advice regarding your particular circumstances, please contact the relevant department.
      Contact details can be found on the course pages."

    Hey I want to study economic and I am stuck between applying for PPE and E&M. I like both of them, but want to focus on economics as a whole. Do you by any chance have a tip for choosing between them?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  10 місяців тому +1

      Hmm, it's tricky! Both will set you up very well for focusing on economics. PPE will be better if you are interested in the underpinning reasons why we do what we do (philosophy) and how economics affects other aspects of society - such as through public policy (politics).
      E&M will be more for those interested in how private and public enterprises run in the real world.
      Make sure you have a look through the course outlines on the University website.

    Dr. Williams,
    You might have been asked this before: Does Oxford heave a policy on the use of ChatGPT for student assignments?

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  9 місяців тому

      The university doesn't have a policy (as far as I know), although individual departments are developing policies. Our general approach to all assignments is that they have to be the student's own work, so use of plagiarism or AI will not be acceptable, if it is discovered. It is also clear that it is pointless to use such tools if a student actually wants to learn something.

    Do you find most of the people you accept are people who have dreamt of getting into Oxford since they were 6 or people who on the last moment decided to put Oxford as one of their choices? Are most successful applicants usually confident about their entry or do they think that they are unlikely to get in? Thanks.

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  10 місяців тому

      Hi there, I don't know for sure, but I would guess that most people who get in have not nurtured dreams of coming to Oxford since they were young children. Holding that much pressure on your shoulders is likely to impair performance in the admissions process. It's those who are more laid-back about it, and see Oxford as just another uni who are more likely to get in.
      But, in answer to your second question, no applicants typically do not feel confident in their chances of being admitted. Most seem to be surprised that they were offered a place.

    Dear sir,
    I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping so many students across the world to get into the university of their dreams. I would be really grateful if you could solve a query of mine. My cousin studies in Bangalore, and she has recently enrolled in the IGCSE course. So far, she is loving all the subjects, except Hindi (as a second language). She wishes to become an economist and wants to apply to Oxford in the future. To achieve her goal, she is working very hard. However, her distaste in Hindi is growing day by day and she wishes to drop the subject, so that she can focus on the others. She is currently studying 9 subjects, including Hindi. Sir, do you think it would be okay if she drops Hindi, and continues to study 8 subjects?

      Hi there,
      Many thanks for your kind comment.
      Yes, it should be fine for your cousin to drop Hindi if she is not enjoying it. There is not a specific number of GCSEs that we need.

    • @JesusCollegeOxford1571
      @JesusCollegeOxford1571  9 місяців тому

      Thanks for the question. Assuming that with the IBDP you come out with six subjects (some standard, some higher) and that you attain the necessary grades for your chosen course, then, yes, I believe that is acceptable.
