trilok gurtu just make you forget everything. best thing that ever happened to drumming. john & ecki - stellar, of course, too. actually this trio (and with di piazza on bass) changed my guitar life. :)
The percussionist is the best I have ever heard or seen!! I'm a Tony Williams fan and I hear that and much more in him. He's brilliant!! The bass player is no slouch either!! John needs no comment!! His playing speaks for itself!! This guy Gurtu is beyond master technique!! He's on another planet. I have never seen water used in percussion like that!!
Agree completely. Saw the trio in Melbourne: can't really remember in detail apart from being impressed- but videos just confirm that the whole ensemble - especially percussionist - was mind-blowing!
Zakir Hussain (Shakti) once said: "If Trilok Gurtu would play tablas only, he'd be the best tabla player in the world." Someone else said "...full isolation..." of his individual limbs' rhythmic sense. Personally I first saw this McLaughlin acoustic style with Trilok Gurtu at the '92 Sevilla World Expo Jazz Guitar night (on TV), and he made my jaw drop, literally. (btw., so did Larry Coryell's "Bolero".) Indeed, Trilok Gurtu is a league of his own, outstanding. :-)
I was at the Royal Festival Hall when they played…..JM changed my life in 1982,he changed it again in 1990. For me his Music Spoken Here is my desert island disc….but then again so is Extropolation,Electric Dreams, My Goal’s Beyond, Handful of Beauty,Natural Elements, Live at the RFH….
I've seen this band live in late '90s, and it's something I'll never forget. Same goes for " Shakti" and "Mahvisna Orchestra" concerts that was priviledged to be a witnesses to.....Man, tese people speak language from different part of galxy....I was, and still am, in awe at such display of emotions that are so human and yet, at the same time, so alien withot being entirely weird....so uncanny ! So beautiful and so well balanced....💎🖒😎
Trilok has shared stage with other greats like L.Shankar on Violin, Zakir Hussain on tabla and Vikki Vinayakaram on the Ghatam. This Trio show ranks up there along with MsLaughlin's earlier great album Shakti! This one's in an altogether different... elevated orbit!
this project for me is among top 3 of john mclaughlin and maybe top 1 of last 30 years, i could choice something of wayne shorter because i saw an outer space concert of shorter 20 years ago in Rome thanks for uploading this wonderful beauty for soul eckhardt is magnifique
13:20-13:21, the short-lived singing career of John McLaughlin lol. Amazing concert, a lot of John's ideas here ended up on his "Qué Alegría" album from 1992. One of his more overlooked albums, and particularly the opening track "Belo Horizonte", it's a stunner!
Musically genial. I heard Kai Eckhardt in the early 80s in a small club in Bavaria, you could hear that he was good then, here he is a master. A pity that the cameraman is no musician.
McLaughlin plays guitar like a sitar, that's why Trilok fits so well I think. At Montreux I once saw a clinic of Katche Gurtu and Weckl.I walked out half way through Weckl. The first two brought something of their culture while Weckl was just like every other American Drummer.
after experiencing Trilok live (in 2005), the few days after, i had turn off all music and seek silence. It all sounded like my favourite drummers were using frozen turkeys instead of drum sticks and having trouble with 4/4. We are fortunate to experience Trilok who is dialled in a different dimension.
Extraterrestre McLaughlin. Soy su fan desde la legendaria Mahavishnu Orchestra. Y Encontró a Super Músicos como el asimismo extraterrestre bajista Kai Eckhardt. RÄ
I think this guitar is "Katia 1", the first Wechter nylon-string guitar custom made for John. It sounds a bit brittle to my ear and is slightly out of tune here. The "Marielle" guitar, two guitars later, sounds much better.
They don't feature in the same video frame as they are in different rooms, at different times playing different tunes :-). Seriously, can't listen to jazz unless live or video, same with raggae. Amazing technical skills.
Buddy, you're listening to Frank Zappa = Studio Tan - what you're saying is Zappa - this Hindu you idolize can't play, he plays Indian drums well, and John Ivo was put in charge of the percussion instrument, John is a good guitar virtuoso, but he hasn't had any good ideas for a long time, the jazz - rock pattern playing all the time doesn't color his music, I was expecting something deep from John McLaughlin-meditative-cosmic sketches, instead I can hear John trying to Outrun himself..bless you..
Trilok knowing Konnakol is expected, but Mclaughlin..my goodness...how many musical traditions has be mastered! Carnatic, Flamenco, Jazz, rock...phew!
Trilok Gurtu is a monster! 👏👏👏
trilok gurtu just make you forget everything. best thing that ever happened to drumming. john & ecki - stellar, of course, too.
actually this trio (and with di piazza on bass) changed my guitar life. :)
One of the most remarkable trio sessions I have ever seen.
Man, how could I forget just how heavy this trio really was - absolutely mind-blowing!
This drummer is INSANE. These three guys are Geniuses. This performance was so original and inspiring!
Trilok Gurtu, heard about him,saw documentary on Croatian TV today, and here i am. Check his solo stuff,it's worth

Mind blowing performances. Just wow

oh man.... what a moment !!! tooooo crazy !!!!!
What a tight group. In my view this(John McLaughlin's music)is the most sophisticated music humans made yet.
Musically genial. I heard Kai Eckhardt in the early 80s in a small club in Bavaria, you could hear that he was good then, here he is a master. A pity that the cameraman is no musician.
Great to practice to (at ANY level) ...inspiring...bold.

Si la música se clasificara en la tabla periódica, esto sería oro.

Was the band called 'The Monsters'?
John Mc Laughlin

Yes they can play fast, but without a trace of some kind of melody.
