    I bought my IKEA kitchen in 2011. Put all of the cabinets together myself, but hired a contractor to install it. The kitchen is holding up great! The granite installer got nervous when I told him I had IKEA cabinets, but felt a little better when I said a professional installed them. LOL. Not including granite, I paid $7,000 for the cabinets and installation. An incredible bargain, considering my parents paid over $20,000 for a standard kitchen remodel the year before, and their cabinets were mismeasured, installed crooked and they have had door hinges loosen over time (and no soft-close...that would have put them way over budget). Aside from a couple of loose handles (and some design regrets, like the pull-out pantry), I have had zero problems. I would definitely go to IKEA again for a kitchen!

      Thanks for the helpful response. Can I ask why you regretted the pull out pantry?

    • @traceymoore6797
      @traceymoore6797 3 роки тому +8

      @@bnellaniyah I have the pantry where the top and bottom sliding shelves are attached to the door, meaning the whole door pulls straight out, along with those shelves. It makes it difficult to access the middle shelves, even though they also slide out individually, because the door and top shelf are always in the way. I should have gone with a traditional hinged door with pull-out drawers. Just personal preference.

    • @traceymoore6797
      @traceymoore6797 3 роки тому +13

      Also, I would recommend the deep drawers instead of cabinets. My next kitchen won't have a single traditional door-and-shelf cabinet, if I can help it.

    HEY! Have finished several Ikea kitchens:
    Their cabs hold up in every way and cost half of custom.
    You can DIY: Ikea kitchen online design tool will double-think you and can frustrate and the in-store designers may design too quickly and make mistakes. You'll do best yourself if you take time to draw it out but you have to learn the Ikea language/ not hard.
    Their laminate counter tops are just fine, look great and you don't have to WAIT for them like stone or synthetic quartz (if you can get over the feeling that you're being cheap). They have no good backsplash options (yet). I use tile after the counters are in.
    There will be GAPS! The cab SIZES are limited so you have to make it work in your space by measuring all dimensions thoroughly and being creative. They have products to fill gaps with trim pieces, end panels and stackable open shelves.
    Don't be afraid of the gaps between cab boxes!!!
    ALSO : leave (or use) a gap between wall and an upper cab box so the door can fully open (cover it with a narrow trim strip) or you'll have to shave down the door to get it to open by the wall.
    ALSO: plan for hardware to stick out from the fronts. It will limit an adjacent cab door or drawer( in a corner) from opening.
    ALSO: Double sinks can be a problem next to a corner because there may not be a base cab wide enough to accommodate the sink bottom. ( I don't try to fill the corners with active cabs either).
    He's right about delivery (very good deal) but it's not the charges as much as being patient (post pandemic) about waiting for the parts to be available.You'll probably make changes/mistakes and have several deliveries and their great RETURN policy will forgive you.
    DRAWERS: for sure try to plan all base cabs with drawers; much better than old fashioned doors and shelves.
    Don't cut or modify an Ikea cab box: it will end the warranty and weaken the box.
    Don't get their credit card unless you have a huge order to take advantage of a big discount, once.
    It's a very interest hungry card.

    Here's another tip...If IKEA does not have everything you want in stock, do not buy anything. If they are out of stock on one cabinet, for example, don't count on being able to go back later and get what you need. They change models and products so often that you can't count on being able to get exactly what you need.

      @@jaredmyers3227 This has been a longtime problem with IKEA. I ran into the issue about 20 years ago on a kitchen at my cousin's vacation home. We bought 3/4 of the cabinets he needed and were planning to go back when they got more in stock. They never got them and changed models. We were able to solve the problem by reconfiguring the existing cabinets in one part of the kitchen and new cabinets in another part to make it look like we had decided to do it that way.

    Delivery is not available in all areas. I am 100 miles from Ikea. They neither deliver nor install this far.
    I'm doing my second Ikea kitchen. First was in 2008 with the Akurum system. Pick up, assembly, & cabinet installation was done by me, 58yo woman at the time with the help of my 16yo 6'8" neighbor. ( He hung all the uppers 😁). Hired a contractor to do the electrical, plumbing, and installation of the Ikea laminate countertops. I built a raised base for my dishwasher out of 2x6's due to having bad knees. Used a drawer front as facing for the base.
    Moved. Now 70yo. Waiting for the door style I want to come in. Had electrician move outlets. Will hire a handiman to help with installation and hire a plumber for the sink.
    Hope all cabinets will be available at one time as I don't have a car and can't afford to rent a truck more than once.

    How is it a 10 miles difference, but its 2 hours away..

      Drive time is two hours to either ikea. The distance to the one store was 10 miles less than the other store but takes longer to get to(that is the one we had to go to). One was 90 miles the other was 100

    Hilarious me listening to him say u can earn interest on a savings account when no one knows anything about earning real interest on ur savings with stable coins in cryptocurrency. I’m looking at redoing my kitchen bc we’ve made so much money getting into crypto’s 4 years ago. Learn crypto’s bc usd is done. It’s the future of money.

      Yep, I wouldn't disagree with you. How bout just put it anywhere that you can get a decent return. I don't use my saving accounts anymore it's all in crypto and stocks.
