  • Khushab is a historical ancient region of Punjab province situated on the west bank of river Jhelum. The land is blessed with lush rivers, lush plains, mountains and deserts. The history of the centuries-old historical city of Khushab is older than Mohenjo-dru and Harappa. Khushab is a combination of two Persian words "Khush" and "Aab" which means "Khush" which means satisfaction is a local word and Aab means water. According to a tradition, the city of Khushab was settled in 1503 AD while the wall around it was completed in 1593. In 1809, Raja Ranjit Singh captured Khushab. During the time of Muhammad Shah, the governor of Khushab was Nawab Ahmad Yartha, whose tomb is in Khushab. This city, situated on the banks of river Jhelum, was destroyed by floods many times. Especially in 1849 and 1893 floods in the Jhelum river, the fort of Sardar Jafar Khan, the gardens of Tara Chand and Nawab Ahmad Khan, walls and gates were wiped out. In 1700, Khushab was under Jhelum Commissionerate and its headquarters was Shahpur. Babur has mentioned Khushab in the Tuzk Babri as follows: "It was Friday and the inhabitants of Khushab sent a delegation to my service, in response to which I chose Shah Hussain bin Shah Shuja Arghwan to be the leader of Khushab." Go and talk to the people there..." Turk Jahangiri also mentions Khushab in this way: "This is a green and lush land with an income of 30 lakhs. From Khushab to District Khushab, it got the status of a town committee under the British Crown in 1853, just four years before the 1857 War of Independence. Later it was made into a municipal committee. In 1867, Khushab was given the status of a tehsil, in 1947, at the time of the creation of Pakistan, Khushab was a tehsil of district Sargodha, and in 1982, Khushab was given the status of a separate district.
