    2 points to add that wasn't available when this video was made :
    1- Now Videos can even taken by 12-bit
    2- Nikon continuous FW updates improved this camera overtime and now it has much better focus with eye detection
    great video .. this is the second video I watched of this channel and both are impressive ... keep it up

    Agree 1000% with this. Although being a photographer I would rate the Sony's higher from the photo aspect. Regarding video. The Nikon competes very well with the Sony's and is in some cases better with the Atomos Ninja features.

    The Z mount lenses got a "cheap" rep when the first vloggers who saw it before release said it was plastic cheap but they never used them obviously. They are metal and for the focal lengths, they are the sharpest corner to corner of any others tested. The "kit" 24-70 is the sharpest 24-70 made and I have both the well regarded 24-70 2.8 G and E versions and this little Z lens is sharper across the frame, have better flare resistance, better edge contrast, and color. That is pretty noticeable. The tests of MTF confirms its excellent performance in the center-right out to the corners. After getting the Z6 with the 24-70, 50 1.8 and 35 1.8 My D850, probably the best DSLR ever made, hardly gets used. That 50 is only $475 and is the sharpest lens on the planet.
    The 24-70 2.8 is $2200 and those who reviewed it confirm it is the best mid zoom of any brand/model.
    My F mount fast glass works fine on the Z6 with the FTZ adaptor but the motors are noisy for video if someone uses camera mounted mics...but no one serious about sound would ever use mics located on a camera.
    One correction, the new feature update scheduled for May revamps the entire AF firmware and adds compatibility with CFExpress cards that are super fast. It is not confirmed that the PRORes RAW will be in the same firmware update but it might be a June release. It includes 12 bit RAW so anyone serious about video and post-processing will have to look seriously at the Z6. No other camera has the processing power and speed of data buses to adapt to ProRes RAW 12. The AF changes have been checked by a number of early reviews and confirm the Eye-AF works really well and low light AF is greatly enhanced. I have not read the reviews of AF-F video tracking update yet but it is supposed to be enhanced also.

      Agree with everything said Stan SPb. I would add that once Nikon get the eye af system in their cameras, I would be very selective on how I would use it. This whole eye autofocus thing has been over-hyped, in my opinion, way of out proportion. If your subject is more than 20 feet away, eye autofocus is not something I would use unless you are using a really telephoto lens (more than 200mm). In that case, I might as well resort to face recognition or subject tracking, which would work just as well to keep the face in focus, and Nikon Z6 already has. Of course, there's nothing wrong with fine tuning it with future firmware. For most cases other than fast sports, most users are reporting it works rather well.

    The aperture ring on the new Z (S) lenses can be reassigned and used for +/- adjustment with stills and it's a gigantic advantage when shooting in any AUTO mode. In Cine mode I see that it can be applied similarly to adjust ISO, but I'm not sure exactly how useful this is. It works in manual mode as well. For stills this is an amazing feature. Whenever I show this feature to another shooter they are amazed at the simplicity and accuracy of this fine tuning. Just a heads up, curious if this is useful for Cine work?

    Nice video. I tried the EOSHD Z log on my D5600 but after I imported it into Davinci Resolve, I found that the highlights do not clip at the top of the 8 bit and similarily, the shadows don't crush at the very bottom. It seems to me like they FIRST convert it to 8 bit and only then squeeze the image into a log profile which is not using the whole 8 bit! When I use any of the built-in picture profiles and look at Davinci R I do see that the levels use all of the dynamic range of 8-bit. Can you confirm this? Am I doing it wrong?

    Once that E-mount adapter comes out, I think it'll be the perfect for a B/C-cam & set stills cam for any production companies in the FS5/FS7 ecosystem. Being able to shoot 10-bit gives it a leg up on the A7 and the ability to use the same lenses as A-cam makes it legitimately functional as an additional production camera. Good on Nikon this time around...

    This camera gets me excited for the Prores Raw. I'm sure the ibis works great but with the FTZ adapter all F mount lenses get 3 axis. I tested it very briefly in a camera store and found the 3 axis correction not as smooth as 5 axis like on my A7sii. Maybe it just a limit with the FTZ adapter. I own a number of Nikon G and AI lenses and would Love to see what your finding are. The only other thing I found was the buffer wasn't that great for the fact it take an XQD card. The buffer is way stronger on their DSLRs.

    Bought the D7500 in November to shoot - specifically - Video... then saw the Nikon Z6 deal with Atomos and realized ProRes RAW was the Path Forward... returned the D7500 and bought the Z6 Filmmaker’s Kit (and caboodle!) just waiting for the firmware...

    • @TheGeoDaddy
      @TheGeoDaddy 5 років тому +1

      Personally, I think this gets Video as close as needs be to get “cinema” enuff so that people will focus on the Story... only film buffs will care about the difference between a $5000 Z6 vs a $10,000 Cannon Mark II etc.
      And in April I’ll get the Z Wider!
      You know, when you spend a couple hours shooting and a couple more digging the best imaged outta RAW and you get a dozen LIKES from your friends (mostly into photography) while your wife gets a HUNDRED LIKES for the ill composed, outta focus, iPhone snap of your 5 year old petting a doggie 🤬

    • @JohnMayfield-NS
      @JohnMayfield-NS 5 років тому

      @@FamilyofTech It does make a movie automatically, but you don't get the photos it uses to make the time lapse. To do that you'd use the interval timer and stitch it together on your own. I've put a couple on my channel, messing around with sunsets mainly, to learn how it works better.
      I've been really happy with the Z6. It works differently than the DSLRs did, the more I use it the more I learn about it's systems.

    I have been saving my cash back points for the D750 but now, a down payment on a Z6 is looking pretty good. It is just a matter of time until Mirrorless completely dominates.. I'm a hobby photographer and my first love is landscape and cityscape & astro-photography are not far behind. I especially like eye af & the compact size for trekking hills and traveling. I haven't sold a photo for several years. My ability to get out and later edit has been limited since the birth of my 2nd daughter.

  • @nevillet.chompington5039

    Thanks for the video. This is mostly a re-hash of everything one probably already knows about the z6 video capabilities. It's also another talk/spec-heavy "review" with no samples what-so-ever. It would be nice if some of these reviewers would include examples of the features they discuss. For instance, why not show us the output log you get with the external recording, instead of just saying it's better? (better than the flat profile in camera, I assume). Anyways, I didn't finish the video, because I knew where it was going. Maybe samples were included at the end. Oh, yeah...the presenter is charming, but the quick edits, jumpy crops, back out to full, were fatiguing and amateurish. I would have just shot it a second time, but maybe the bouncy edits were your intention. Sorry to dish. Thanks again for the emphasis on the video capabilities!

    I was concerned by the IBIS issues that Tony and Chelsea Northrup had (see their video). I haven't heard about similar issues from others.
    Nikon is a big unknown but if I had the money, I think I'd take a chance with them, if the colours don't take too much work in post. I'd love to see a REC709 LUT for their N-Log.

    With all goodies, power is a major issue with this unique piece of machine. Against usual 1000 + shots approx with other with FX or APSc bodies of Nikon, this Z mount body gives around 300 shots only. Says its official manual. Though many reviews have reported much more shots with a single charge in its 1900mAH EN EL 15B, my practical experience goes even lower than what Nikon claims. For me, a sky enthusiast, the best attraction was its superb low light capability. But I need to have very long exposures. Say 30 seconds of exposure for 120 or 240 frames continuously. My earlier Niikons had no problem in it with single charge and power optimized settings. But Z6 cannot give more than 30 frames. With all power saving options. Nikon does not have any alternative power option other than using EP 5B dummy battery and 220/110 AC to 9V DC power supply EH 5B. But getting a power line in deep interior outdoor shooting location is even greater problem. Nikon technical people or sales people could not come out with any solution. Neither were found ready to provide technical details I have requested only academic interest. Those could have made my job of preparing an alternative, technically safe, usable, convenient, cost effective alternative power source easier. I also had to keep things under serious consideration ion order to keep my warranty intact. However, finally I could come out with a solution that has served my purpose. www.skywatcehrsindia.com

    Nice that Nikon finally came out with a mirrorless FF. I might have considered it 3 years ago but when dropping DSLRs but both Nikon and Canon were much too slow.
    A few comments to your (otherwise) nice video:
    You mention that Sony GM lenses (all f/2.8 or faster) are big and then go on to talk about the smaller Nikon f/4 lens :) - next time please consider an apples-to-apples comparison (compare instead to for example Sonys 12-24mm f/4, 24-70 f/4 or 24-105mm f/4).
    Also for many people mirrorless is not at all about size. Smaller size is a optional feature available to you when using smaller lenses. I use both big lenses (for maximum IQ) and smaller (for convenience) depending on the situation.
