    Ever since I got my western hognose, when I feed him I grab the thawed mice by the rear with forceps and basically put on a puppet show. Honestly, It's more for my benefit than it is for my hognose's, but it seems to have been incredibly effective. He never has been picky, and always pursues the mouse on a super epic, intense wild chase throughout his little feeding bin. I'm not sure if this would work for all hognoses, or if I just happen to have a guy who loves hunting and actually pursuing prey, but he seems to enjoy it and so do I.

    Love this. I just got my first hognoses not long ago. I fell in love with them and have 4 now and the drama is so real with these funny adorable snakes. I have to shake the mouse just right for one and another doesn't like it if I wiggle it at all. My other two smaller males, I have to place in a deli container with the pinky and cover them up so it's dark or they won't eat at all. I love their quirks!

      But some of the feed my pet Friday’s are restricted, and others are not, so I’m confused why one snake eating a rat is different than another snake eating a rat. Maybe they just didn’t like the way the particular snake was eating or something?

    My male Western hognose went through a 3 month hunger strike. Seriously tried everything, f/t, live, braining, like 7 different scents, different colored mice, different sizes, combinations of all of the above. Then the little shit just ate when I accidentally thawed one extra mouse. Been eating steadily ever since. His sister is a dream snake

    We used to have an amel cornsnake, there was something wrong with it thoug. We could see something black in its stomach and it wouldn't eat so on the second week we traded it for another amel (I think it's an amel but it's a bit darker than amel should be, maybe an ultramel? I'm not sure) The ultramel eats fine, but I hope that Starburst (the one I gave away) is eating now. I still have Vio and Ember

    Hello! I recently got a hognose snake (about 4 months old) and while she’s very friendly, she keeps trying to bite me and my boyfriends hands whenever we hold her. She doesn’t hiss or strike at us so I know it’s not out of fear just her thinking we’re food. She tried biting me when we picked her out and the breeder said it was just because she was hungry so we fed her that day when we brought her home but now two days later we’ve tried holding her again and she’s actually more bitey then before. Any advice on how to teach her that we’re not food? Thanks:)

    Emily! We have a baby albino hognose.... he’s pretty thin, about 8/9 inches, looking at this baby I think we need to fatten ours up! We already feed him twice a week, but I don’t think he’s as young as we thought in the first place. Any ideas on how to help me figure out how old he is and if he’s under weight? He is not ridged, just long and skinny

    What is the reason mice are so much popular as snake food than hamsters? Is there a nutritional advantage, or are mice simply easier/cheaper to breed?

    • @SnakeDiscovery
      @SnakeDiscovery  6 років тому +4

      +ActiveAnimals formerly animalobsessed1 mice breed quicker so they are cheaper, plus hamsters are much rounder/wider so you have to feed a smaller meal in order for the snake to be able to take it down.
