The king of the blues, the late B.B. King once said that he loved to watch Stevie play, because Stevie would walk out on stage, and within a couple of notes it was like Stevie tapped into his own private radio station, and we all got to listen along. High praise indeed!

Theres more where that came from. The guy has soul. He plays the whole guitar. Attacks the guitar i should say and it sings with emotion. He is completely connected with it and is in total command. A master and true artist. Your ears and emotions are his medium. Cant thank you enough for bringing this out of the past.

That is true passion you are witnessing💯. It's not about pain, only effort, expertise, and pure passion for making music. He is shredding on 0.13 gauge strings that 90% of people can't even play and he gets swept up in the music he is playing, will be subbing for more Stevie Ray!
Suggesting one of his original works called Riveria Paradise from the 1989 Austin City Limits venue.🎶💙🎸🎶

This is a transcendental performance - the audiences are teleported somewhere else during each 'change', and always enjoy the ride. As much as anything else, this performance is evidence that SRV understood the value of Showmanship. He wanted energize the audience before the climatic end - and he did.

You can witness it by watching him play the same song at different venues and although you know it's the same song, he plays it like he's feeling it in the moment with added improv. In my opinion, he's definitely in the top 3 best there ever was. RIP SRV!!

This is hard core blues at it's Apex! Blues artists don't just play the music they feel every single note thus the grimaces on their faces and the contorted body language...Notice the sweat just pouring down his face...Beth Hart sheds as much sweat when she sings...it's indeed a passion when you feel the music...Many guitarist thought that SRV was channeling the music through his fingers to his guitar because as explained by one, might have been Clapton, that even the best will have a slight pause here and there as they transition from one lick to another...not SRV it just flows seamlessly and yes the whole damn song becomes a solo...All I can add is with Jimi and Stevie jamin up in the spiritual word it must be pure sweet heaven!

  • @davidburton9136

Welcome to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble! One of the things that made Stevie great was surrounding himself with damned near perfect band members who just want to support the song, which as you noted was in this case basically one long guitar solo. Chris Layton on drums and Tommy Shannon on bass are there, and you almost can't notice, which was the intent. I'd recommend checking out the studio version of "Riviera Paradise", from Stevie's final record In Step. Double Trouble had added the great Reese Wynans on keyboards, and Stevie graciously relinquished some of the spotlight to this other excellent soloist. One of my big regrets in life in regard to music is that I never got to see them live. Looking back, I'm pretty sure I had the opportunity, but never went. Don't wait for the next tour, because it may never happen...buy tickets for who's touring today!

The slow string-bending comes from Albert King (also rip), Stevie's friend and mentor. Albert was a pioneer of the electric blues, and he played a upside-down Flying V guitar. His influence can be found through, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, David Gilmour, and many others. For further Albert King, try, You're Gonna Need Me, You Sure Drive A Hard Bargain, I Love Lucy. While Stevie's play is phenomenal, here, I thought that the song went on a little too long, without enough changes to the music. Peace

10:44 That really is funny about guitarists, but there's an actual reason - ever listen to a guitar with a heavy "wah" sound on it and realize you're mouthing the wah a little? Guitar has such a uniquely vocal timbre and frequency range that if you resonate with it, it actually feels like speech. Then when you strap one of those things on and get in flow with it, you and it become one thing. People make fun of it being an extension of our crotches, but - while, yes, that's a thing too, it's actually a representative for the voice box and 3rd eye.
