    One of the best for me... it’s modern and elegant. I like it with rosemary and grapefruit. Perhaps I like it more because it is not a london dry gin.

    I always drink this with Fever Tree Mediterranean and put in one or two lemon slices, the lemon garnish totally makes up for the slight lack of citrus in there. Give it a go and you’ll love it!

      My favorite G&T combo! I use a lime slice and a few basil leaves - amazing!

    As someone who adores this gin I actually completely agree with your breakdown of its flavor profile. I even understand how the strong savory flavors could be overwhelming, especially compared with brighter, more mix-friendly gins.
    That said, Gin Mare is the only gin I enjoy plain over ice since its unique herbaceous flavor doesn't necessarily beg for tonic. When I do mix it I use FT Mediterranean tonic and grapefruit + rubbed basil as my go-to.
    Some other garnishes I've tried and enjoyed are pomegranate + (unstuffed) olives or lemon + fresh rosemary.

    Cheers Mate,
    I personally like the Gin Maré as a niche gin. I drink it with FeverTree Mediterranean Tonic and some rosemary and lemon cest into it. Maybe you try this with the rest in the bottle.
    Love your vids

    I like this as a change from the regular dry gins..it’s a savory gin 😘 Try with a sprig of rosemary or basil and slice of grapefruit.

    I thought basil and rosemary were indeed the key aroma’s. Very earthy flavors is what something you can expect from Spanish products. That’s also with wine.

    The gin Mare does not work with the classic Fever Tree tonic. Try the 1724 Tonic (Made for this Gin) or the blue Mediterranean Fever Tree.

    This Time i disagree with you. I bought it a few Weeks ago and Drink it two times. First with Fever Tree Second with Schweppes. With Schweppes was it horrible but with Fever Tree and a extra garnish of Thyme a dream on my tongue. Maybe you can test it for yourself with an Fever Tree mediteranian Tonic thats can be compared better.

  • @gabusoo
    @gabusoo 4 роки тому +10

    Hi there Bobby, the pronunciation is "mah-re". "Mare" is Latin for "sea", the gin's name supposedely reflecting its Mediterranean character as you've read since it's produced in the Barcelona area. The Romans called the Mediterranean "Mare Nostrum" (literally "Our Sea"), and accordingly the webpage states in Spanish the following: "We've managed to distil and bottle the Mediterranean and export it to the world".
    I only tried it once and I didn't like it either. It's overpowering, expensive and pretentious, e.g. there was an offer in which they sold the gin together with a scented candle *facepalm*.
    As far as Spanish gins go, there's a huge selection these days. You could try Nordés and Larios 12. The former is a nice herbal gin produced in the northwestern region of Galicia and distilled from white wine, while the latter is a classic simple gin and the premium version of the most iconic (but otherwise horrible) Spanish gin Larios, which has been around for decades. This brand also has pink and orange flavoured versions.
    BTW, I must commend you for using a Spanish glass ;)

    Hey, Bobby! Got a simple cocktail for you to try out. Grapefruit Gimlet. I prepared it as follows: 3oz Gin (I used Tanq 10), 1.5oz fresh pink grapefruit juice, 0.5oz fresh lime juice, 0.75oz simple syrup (or to taste). Heavy shake, double strain into coupe glass. Garnish with grapefruit twist. Cheers!

      @@nononsensegindrinking5152 Haha, I just watched your "perfect gin garnish for G&T" video and found out about your dislike for grapefruit. Sorry for recommending this one! I will say this, with the balance of sweetness from the simple syrup (and the fact that there's not a fiery red wedge of grapefruit in it), I think you may still find it pleasant.

    I just got this gin and I tend to agree with you. It's very interesting, and I think well executed, but by itself the flavor while novel is not perfect. That said, I made a martini with it with a lemon twist and 5ml of Elderflower liquor and it was fantastic. Adding the citrus twist kind of makes up for the lack of citrus in the gin itself and balances out the flavors nicely. Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

    • @nononsensegindrinking5152

    I'd buy a small bottle like that to try, but honestly - the thought of rosemary, basil and thyme doesn't sound appealing to me at all, in a gin. So your review kinda confirms what I'm thinking. Maybe in a Bloody Mary (which I've never had - I just imagine it tasting like spaghetti sauce).

    • @JasminMiettunen
      @JasminMiettunen 2 роки тому

      I've never had a bloody mary, but this sure sounds right at home in one, or in a martini! Especially if you like dirty martinis, probably don’t add too much olive juice or it'll be too much. This looks really interesting

  • @fandase1
    @fandase1 4 роки тому +2

    Wow, that sounds intriguing! Basil in gin? I hope to try this one sometimes. Also, I tried the pink beefeater last week and to be honest, I'm not a big fan. The strawberry flavour is really nice, don't get me wrong, but it completely overpowers the taste of juniper.

    Hi Bobby!
    I also ran out and bought a bottle of the gin mare to try and I too had similar expectations as well as disappointment with what I found. The juniper overpowered the gin and was nice but I felt it didn't combine well with the olive and herbal basil thyme flavors. Bad mix. Its kind of like how I like pizza, and I like peanut butter, but together that just wouldn't be good. Had they toned down the juniper I think it would have been better. Noting super minty fresh juniper, and I can appreciate the quality of the botanicals, it's a quality product, but the combination was too off putting for me.
    To go back to gin's roots, could you try a much cheaper and more classic gin, HAYMAN'S London dry gin. I just tried it and for the money its as good as there is. It's not a contemporary gin and it is not doing anything new. It is however so wonderfully balanced and complex in it's subtle flavors that I think it's one of the best gins for your money. Please review it when you can, it's 20 dollars US here in panama city Panama.

    I bought a sample from Master of Malt and felt very similar to you. The ingredients read like my dream Med holiday and couldn’t see how I wouldn’t like it and the flavour disappointed me, it wasn’t bad just not right. I almost wanted to have a go at the shop and thought they must have forgotten to put the top back on the bottle a few years ago. Might try again in a bar but not tempted to splash out on a bottle for home

    OMG the outtake... 😂
    First of all, I'm new to your channel and I LOVE it. Subscribed. Hooked. You're hilarious, and for a gin novice like me, super informative!! And second, I just made a cocktail on my channel using this particular Gin (Which after watching you, I realize I sound like a jackass pronouncing it "Gin Mar eh" ... American. Forgive me. And not a bartender, just a chick who likes futzing with cocktails. Mercy! LOL!) I'm curious if when you're tasting, do you always pair it with tonic, or do you enjoy Gin straight? I've always hated the flavor of tonic, and I feel like it changes the spirit! But I genuinely am not sure since I really do hate tonic... thoughts?

    • @nononsensegindrinking5152
      @nononsensegindrinking5152  4 роки тому +2

      Hey Savidge Kitchen!
      Welcome to my channel! So glad you enjoy the videos. Great question and one I am asked quite a lot. I always add a bit of tonic as it actually releases the flavours of the gin and allows them to be discerned it a way that you can’t get from drinking it neat. Master distillers often add a tiny spot of water to neat gin while testing it as it has the same effect.
      I know that lots of people don’t like tonic though so I am planning a video to feature alternatives 😊😊

    Hello everyone! I don't know if someone can help me, but I am a gin beginner (Love Whiskey Neat) and I wanted to buy a Gin that is citrousy, has mint and it is smooth to drink it neat. I also want to make some cocktails, so I want a good gin to drink it neat, with tonic or in cocktails. My price point is to 30€, but if it is what I want I may pay more for it, but not much.
    There is Beefeater, Beefeater 24, Tanqueray, Bombay Dry Gin and Bombay Sapphire in my local store but I can buy other than those. I saw The Botanist was an Islay Dry Gin, good to drink neat...
    If someone could help me I would be appreciated!
