Thank you so much for this. I've been working on a simple melody I used to pick out on the piano as a kid and thanks to your recommendation of the scaleschords site, I know it's in C blues.
Another great one. Do you have any ideas about an app that can detect what chords go into a melody? You mention towards the beginning of this video that there are such things... I wouldn't have the slightest clue how to search for such an app. Thanks again for all your hard work!!
I'm not sure what you mean by "what chords go into a melody", sorry. I mentioned being able to work out melody notes for singers : I've heard people use this : singingcarrots.com/pitch-monitor but I can't vouch for it myself. Look for pitch monitor on the app store and it looks like there are some options to try.
If you want to know which chords contain a particular note, that's a mechanical process. For instance, to find the major chords that contain an E, you choose following: E major (E is 0 half-steps below E) C major (C is 4 half-steps below E) A major (A is 7 half-steps below E) For an F, you use the same 0-4-7 formula: F major, Db major, and Bb major. If you want minor triads, the magic numbers are 0, 3, and 7. Etc.

I call it 'Sonic Lego'.
One of the books on my "to buy" list is called Harmony by LEGO Bricks: A New Approach to the Use of Harmony in Jazz Improvisation.
@WriteASong - What is the name of the ap that'll tell you the notes you're singing?

You could look for a chromatic tuner.
