I found it interesting how you stressed the adaptability of the ISFJ, because I think often it seems like people see us as rigid and that we don't like change, because we are so fond of routines and rituals. And yes, I have a strong need for routine, but the concept of routine is more important than what the routine is, I don't seek out new things, and I feel stressed in situations without routine, but when things change we are wise enough to see that we can't hold on to our old routines, and we bravely jump into whatever is new so that we can establish our new routines as soon as possible. (Well, my interpretation, but then I don't know too many other ISFJS besides myself and a few others).

ISFJ male here. Thanks for all of the insights! It is kind of scary how on point the both of you are regarding observations of this particular type. Going forward I intend to become more assertive, create boundaries, and designate time to focus on my needs.

as an ISFJ woman, one of the biggest takeaway from my therapy sessions is to let other people know my own needs, and prioritize my needs.

Thank you so much for this! I feel like isfj is often invisible not only in life but also in the online personality community... I always test as isfj but had started to wonder if that was my type because I don't fit a lot of the "stereotypes", but this was SO accurate and respectful towards this personality type. Thank you!!

This was a very insightful episode, I have recently discovered personality types and identify as an ISFJ, and suddenly everything is so much clearer! I have done a lot of reading up on this, and this is the first time quirkiness and creativity has been mentioned to describe an ISFJ, and the ability to adapt and be open to new experiences. I was slightly confused when all I read before was ‘they need routine and tradition’ whereas I like routine but often find i also like to mix things up sometimes and don’t always value tradition, but it’s the feeling comfortable and safe factor which then opens up these avenues for allowing new things into my life! I did cry a bit when you were talking about the need to meet my own needs because my whole life I have constantly been trying to support my mum, and make her happy and feel guilty when I put myself first, and I didn’t realise how much I shut off my own emotions to help others until recently I sought therapy and it’s helped a lot. This helps too, thank you guys!

Hey ISFJ's...Amazon has fabric couch covers that are quite comfy and can be cleaned by simply throwing them in the washer. Ha!
Also, my husband (esfp) says I'm a weirdo magnet. Like random people will just come tell me their life story. I love holding space for all people. It is my purpose.
I don't know why this is, but I cannot make a small meal to save me. I think its something inside me that wants to make sure everyone has enough and is comfortable? My family is always like, "Why? Why did you make so much stinkin' food." Hehehe
And yes! I am the planner of family vacations! My esfp husband brings the fun and I bring the plan so that he can have his fun. Win win!

My husband and I just re-took our personality type tests within this past year and it was illuminating to see how my personality type has changed from a teen (the last time I took the test) to an adult. My work is a unique intersection of keeping people safe and graphic design, so I'm filled with lots of "quirks and quarks" for a creative ISFJ. Thank you for this incredibly refreshing take on ISFJ's, for the care and effort you have put into this podcast. I will look forward to ruminating on this further. Cheers!

Yes, i love this. I don't mind change at all and I've had so many say ISFJ's don't like change and i don't mind it. As a kid i moved a lot and experienced change a lot so that's why i don't mind it so much. However, if its sudden change it scares me not processing it in my mind first that i get anxiety.

At 18:17 where you mentioned incorporating yourself into the everyone group, I find viewing it as keeping yourself functioning so you can aid other people in functioning to be most effective for me personally. I want to be at my best so that I can invest all of my mental and physical resources towards helping those who need it.

Thank you, podcast. I know someone who is ISFJ, and one of the things you did not mention is that sometimes they can be very combative. If they or someone they love is threatened she can really go into combat. Sometimes even unnecessarily, from my perspective. Have you noticed this with other ISFJs?

    • @kellikakes81
      @kellikakes81 3 роки тому +4

Thank you! Nobody talks about this. Perhaps it's with immature ISFJs... the ISFJs I know are nowhere near this stereotype of "super nice and go out of their way for eveyone." They only focus their super immediate people, and absolutely nobody else. Very standoffish, stoic and aloof to others and many times , very combative

@@kellikakes81 You're right! Sometimes you just can't rewire your brain quick enough to stop being yourself. My opinion on personality is that nobody's normal. People see what they tell themselves they see. It's called perception. There's a 50% rule. Somebody will see only half of what you saw and you don't know if half of what you said you saw really happened or if you thought it happened. Nonetheless, Freud would be proud!

If the 'crime' is a 'mountain' I would die on, I can be combatant. Like
Physical threats or a 'real takedown move' that seems grossly unjust..but the we are all individuals here and likely differ in this way. ISFJ.

I greatly appreciate Joel bringing up our storehouse of knowledge
in the workplace, and feeling overlooked in that way. I want to relate it to the idea of harmony. Those in charge run the show, but we need to recognize our value in this area. Also tolerance of other's differences is a big trait I identify with. I want to tie it to a belief that in order to effectively influence people..one must EARN the right, by investing in that relationship. Our families and friends are already 'close', So we being practical (mostly), invest where it makes most sense. It's not that we don't want to help others we don't know..as I think Antonia stated. I've grown to look at conflict as mountains and molehills. Learning that other types focus on other things can be o.k., it's learning how to talk to them so they can hear me. A strength of the mbti as a tool.
    I appreciate this discussion.

INTJ here, listening to all of these podcasts to better understand how to approach and field people I work with. I am curious how Meyers Briggs translates across cultures. In the United States we have such an open platform to discuss and express ourselves. Has anyone had experience trying to implement this psychological model with people from other cultures and seen it skewed by cultural upbringing or even just language barriers to what questions on the assessment are actually asking?

    I truly appreciated this podcast.
It’s validated what I’ve recently learned about my “need” for boundaries. Before listening to this informative podcast, I qualified to participate in IOP (6-8 week intensive outpatient program). The intake person told me they will be working on boundaries with me! They are also going to help me discern what would be a good job fit. This podcast helped me to value the years of experiential study I’ve accumulated over 31 years and have become an expert” at.😉
Thank you for making my traumatic work life experiences make sense to me.
I was loyal to employers instead of me. I stayed when the job changes were no longer a fit for my personality type. I wish I heard this 18 years ago.
Thank you again. I will listen to this multiple times to see what I may have missed the first time around.

First and foremost, thank you for all of your hard work in creating these podcasts. They're very informative and profound!
From getting into typology, I've considered myself as an INFP, even being typed on the official Myers Briggs test as one and having a one MBTI counselor in training type me as one too, however another professional typed me as ISFJ. I've felt really conflicted for such a time. INFP fit me in that I class myself as imaginative and going along with others flow. But when studying the functions in depth, I couldn't really find resonance with Te (even as an inferior). Furthermore, I can relate to Fi since I am always trying to gauge how I'm feeling and responding to experiences and imagine how others would react too (or me in situations I haven't been). But on listening to this podcast, I wonder if my forecasting on how others are feeling and how I may feel in hypothetical situations is to do with Si paired with Fe?
Compared to others who have been typed as INFP or ISFP I seem to lack certainty in my values and feelings and despite my shyness, come across as more expressive emotionally. I've been told I have no poker face. I really found resonance with your description of Si as making sense impressions personal and internal, forming part of my identify even. I did wonder if it's Ne to compare and contrast impressions/experiences, finding similarities and familiarity in new impressions/experiences but from how you've worded your podcast, that sounds more like Si?
For some time I haven't been at ease in my INFP typing - though it's the one I'm most emotionally attached too. Plus because I am daydreaming, like imaginary worlds and do try to decipher what I'm feeling as separate to others - in hindsight this could be me trying to foster my own sense of self and assert boundaries. Otherwise I tend to be attached to what my loved ones and colleagues are feeling and adopt their emotions as my own.
Objectively and with self reflection, I can see how ISFJ fits me like a glove. To be a bit pedantic, I listened to both your ISFJ advice and INFP podcast and wrote down notes on what I could see more for myself. Overall I found the most similarity with ISFJ. Now it's a case of me accepting that ISFJ is my best fit rather than INFP, and to continue on my journey of self knowledge and self growth. Thank you again for your wisdom 🙂

INTJ here. My girl is an ISFJ this information is true... but youre softballing the potential character flaws. Id add that the most important thing for an ISFJ is to learn to be assertive, so they aren't taken advantage of.
If i were to start a predatory business, i would target turbulent ISFJ types first. Their agreeableness as willingness to please makes them easily manipulated.
Not that id do that. perhaps the younget me before i met her would have...
