I cooked up my lobsters 🦞 and WOW, they were delicious! The flavor was great, and the texture was fantastic. Hypomyces is a genus of parasitics mycoheterotrophs. That is, they are fungi that eat other fungi! If you have ever found a squishy bolete covered in a white powder, this is also Hypomyces (not good for eating though). Hypomyces lactifluorum attacks Russula and Lactarius mushrooms and transforms them into something amazing! What starts as a soft, brittle mushroom turns into a dense, colorful, and delicious foraged treat! I highly recommend trying this wild mushroom if you can find one. Have you ever found the lobster mushroom before?

I found some huge white mushrooms with gills on my lawn the other day, there were like 5 or 6 and of course they pop out overnight it seems. They were more or less in a straight line which I thought was weird. My plant identifying app said it was Agaricaceae. Wasn't clear if they were edible or not. They look more or less like the white mushrooms you buy at the store but just like prehistorically large. I pulled them out with gloves on. Then when I went to reach for the one under the bush a bunch of yellow jackets came out from the bush and I'm like, F....... This...... I'm not getting stung for a mushroom I probably can't even eat. They did look super cool though like you can paint them or something as an art project.
I ususally find them on the sides steep river banks or near waterfalls, often unseen untill I'm on my hands knees on the ground. Can be lactarius or Russellas.
We found about 2 lbs just over a month ago if u live in alabama and you wanna find these just look for lacterious once they pop just keep revisting those spot and trust me they're 1000% worth it
Jack O' Lantern mushroom and chanterelle. Jack O' Lantern is dangerously toxic. Chanterelle is edible and supposedly one of the best tasting species (but I haven't found any yet so can't confirm).
Practicing saying them, thinking about it all the time. Trust me you can do all this stuff too people say it’s not that hard because it really isn’t but you shouldn’t feel bad whatsoever about not knowing or being able to actively recall these things. Practice the Feynman technique on things you want to truly learn and recall in real time
You know this is real because when he pulled it out, there was still soil and roots attached to it. When you watch Gordon Ramsay episodes, especially when he goes fishing or forages, they use defrosted fish to make as if Gordon caught something. They also hide truffle mushrooms so the dogs can easily find them. All the TV stuff was staged.
I saw a mushroom in my school football ground first me and my friend were confused if it is an egg or a mushroom when I picked one it had kind of like beige spots( for lack of a better word) and I just knew it was a mushroom I disected😂 it with a stick and it was all white from the inside and it's stem had and almost yellowish liquid ......but it was definitely not an egg as it didn't have any weight and smelled earthy... Idk what it is called tho I am curious from that day only 🤧
I would consider or try connecting with the plants and mushrooms and all that before picking. It’s common in Native American tradition to do so and ask the plant or mushroom permission if you can pick it

Have you ever found the lobster mushroom before?
Nice
No lobsters harmed in the process 🦞 amazing
I love these for making a vegetarian bisque - they are quite common around here in he same places that produce chanterelles.

I've found them a few times! I gave the ones I found to a teacher of mine
We used these at our restaurant. Got them from a local forager. We did a coconut curry dish with them. They're so buttery and amazing. Xoxox
Lobster mushroom is my favorite, so many good nutrients 😊
Nice find, very early compared to when I usually find them in western NC. Lobsters are usually an October mushroom for me.
Good stuff. I found my first lobster mushroom yesterday.
Dude, super envious.
I love this musroom
Whoa wow! So cool
Cool find. The sound of them cicadas made me wanna visit southern states. Been a while.
The cicadas are singing background to you❤😊
Thats a buffalo chicken nugget bro
The forbidden Cheeto
Lovely Damascus blade. 🤝
Ahhh I hear that's awesome 👍😎
We love you...videos very informative
Not only did you find one, you found one without worms! A rare event, from my experience!
Beautiful! Nice score!

Mushrooms are so cool :0
Not a russella that's infected? Or do they also actually infect lactarius too?
Yes, they infect both.
So delicious. I hope to find some!
My first taste was on pizza!
So delicious!!!

I had no idea that fungi could "prey" one another

only time i found these there were like 50 of them. we had no butter or oil or salt and had to "sautee" them in beer. still tasted damn good.
They attack each other under ground, wow that is interesting. Your a great teacher!
rockin the Valyrian Steel 🗡🔥🐲
If it's real
Bro walked into a full on mushroom battlefield 😅
Even tho i dont understand these scientificly terms i still enjoy the vids
He was walking up i thought "looks like a lobster tail. Smh they proly call it some shit like that"
😂
So beautiful 😍
How can you tell the difference inbetween a lacterius or russula being the host?
Is this pokemon? Did you need pokeballs to catch that lobster thingy?
Kurka, is very popular in Poland
I love your amazing videos !! Your wonderful knowledge.!! Where do you live to find all these gorgeous mushrooms?🍄
So dope❤
Now this is the real SlowBro.
Where do they grow?
These were in a swampy area in a mixed hardwood forest

In the ground
Delicious 🤤
Are there any lookalikes to watch out for?
Jack O' Lantern mushroom and chanterelle. Jack O' Lantern is dangerously toxic. Chanterelle is edible and supposedly one of the best tasting species (but I haven't found any yet so can't confirm).
how do u pronounce these words 😭?
scientific names are made out of root words, if you know the words that compound into the full names its pretty easy
Latin helps

He can pronounce all these words but not fungi
Fungi/Fun-guy
Yes, a lot of mushroom jokes are to be made
I wanna go foraging w you!
Had a bunch with eggs this morning. Very umami flavor, great sautéed with butter.
hypometized? is a certain type of mycelium taking over another?
Cool knife!
I think that's more of a conversation rather than an attack
In Europe we have Hypomyces cheysospermus which is very common on boletes. Unfprtunately poisonous and doesn't look as appetizing.
I once found a lobster mushroom, but it was catastrophically slugchewn
Lobsters are the best mushroom I have eaten.
Beautiful
You can fill a wheel barrow with lobster mushrooms in the White Mountains.
There ya go nice one
Looks exactly like a lobster tail
I lowkey thought that was a dried up goldfish 😆
Fun guy
They are easy to find here in the pacific northwest.
Where?
Is this edible
Fungi❌
Funji✔️
mushrooms are really a forest delight.
Nice knife
Of course you finally found one you put that there

As real as it gets right here
@@FeralForaging Thanks bro. Not many like you on UA-cam, even fewer on TikTok. 😞
Neat
for sure
Funji?
looks like a mermaids tail to me
for a sec I thought it was a chanterelle
cant have too much rain or they wont pop; from experience :)
So basically this mushroom will only taste good when attacked by another fungi 🤔
I found my FIRST lobster a couple weeks ago!
Where do you live?
You should have left the stem in the ground so it would grow back next time
That's not how that works
Was laughing was 2 hard at this one, your so calm under these comments. Please keep up your work and dedication 💪@@FeralForaging
❤
Should wait a bit for it to be biger
I don't think it would get bigger. After all, the host likely won't grow much beyond its current size.
That's interesting didn't know that
Is it ( Fun-Jai ) or Fun-guy??
I saw a mushroom in my school football ground first me and my friend were confused if it is an egg or a mushroom when I picked one it had kind of like beige spots( for lack of a better word) and I just knew it was a mushroom I disected😂 it with a stick and it was all white from the inside and it's stem had and almost yellowish liquid ......but it was definitely not an egg as it didn't have any weight and smelled earthy... Sounds like a stinkhorn egg!
I would consider or try connecting with the plants and mushrooms and all that before picking. It’s common in Native American tradition to do so and ask the plant or mushroom permission if you can pick it
Dis they actually do that tho?
Mmm forest seasoned chicken
Is it fun guy or fun jai.
you must be cut with knive without destroying the root system of mushrooms
If they are that rare, WHY did you pick it???
It's all white on the inside....like most mushrooms 😂
How could someone eat that. Bruh snails are literally crawling on one
Come over here I’ll bring you where you can find pounds and pounds of them 😊
But does it taste like lobster?
Supposedly they do
I Thought it was a joke video, and it was just a Doritos on the floor
So i added you three times now because UA-cam keeps telling me the resource is overused
I can’t find these before they go a little rotten on top
next tine try frying it look up Mrs and mr he she cooked some and it tasted like chicken W foods
You do and you'll clean it up.
What's with "fun-jai"? Is it an american thing??
Looks n sounds like a marriage become one 🍄
I have found an abundance of lobsters this year
Shakabses I hate being in the city
Why pluck it? Now its gone.
