Can't agree here. JUST had very small attendances compared to the big NSL clubs of the time. Not to mention the crappy little home venue to go with it.
That is the second match in a row that David Healy has gone on a slalom run, that resulted in a goal and a poster. He barely did that in later years. It confirms my view that this 1988 team was the most entertaining team South Melbourne ever had in my time. It's a bit analogous to the Geelong 1989 and North Melbourne 1993 teams in the AFL. They burst from nowhere with exhiliarating attacking football, that just fell short. Two out of the Three clubs (South and North) went on to finally win a flag with a more measured approach.
This uploading journey has really opened my eyes to the Garvey years, and how exciting it must have been at times watching these young South teams playing classic South Melbourne Hellas attacking football.
Finally found this, was hoping you had this during your 88 archive, thx for sharing.
No worries, it seems like it was a terrific game, it has a wonderful purity of attacking spirit.
Ironically the match between the two teams a year earlier was a better match!
So many great players. And my cousin played.
Which player is that?
Footscray JUST was the best Victorian side in the NSL never to win anything. They were just a powerhouse with huge support.

Crowds for Just weren’t huge but they were decent. Not as Big as Heidelberg for example but bigger than Sunshine
Both of these teams would destroy any team from the a league today
Excellent match.
Nice goal by Trimboli to kick things off.

@@paulmavroudis2958 I had a real anti-Sydney attitude during this period. Getting beaten by Marconi and Sydney Croatia in the finals did not help
who wearing number 15 and 16 for footscray just that season?
Plavi Plavi
Crkli Crkli
Paul Wade had not scored up until Round 16?
He only scored two goals that season, in round 20 (vs APIA) and round 25 (vs Wollongong).
