But there is no math, although granted, computer science, programming, and data analytics skills are highly helpful and sometimes directly involved in the work. But like, math? No, there is barely any math. If you know logarithms, you're good (for certain functions within managerial accounting and costing activities + WACC, CVP analysis, and other similar tasks), but there is no like, actual *math*. You probably don't need more than Calculus for most tasks. It's mostly about how you *apply* the mathematics you learn. But also, if you're just doing financial accounting, data analytics skills are useful, but there is very little to no actual *math* per se.

Since I'm really considering switching my major to accounting, I'm scared I'll be overwhelmed with all of the accounting classes since I'm done with my pre-reqs already and won't have any easy classes to make the schedule less difficult while still being full time
I wanted to graduate early (and did in 3 1/2 years) so I took as my of my pre-reqs as I could my first year. The last year or two were all accounting courses and I was fine! As long as you're willing to put the time and effort in, you'll be fine!
Changed my major to Accounting from Computer Science recently after discovering I loved learning about the problem solving techniques and computational theory in algorithms and data structures but learning programming languages and the process of writing code was boring me to the point of depression so instead of dropping out I decided that maybe accounting would be a good place to pursue a problem solving focused career.
@@heymollietchen Personally, while working at a small accounting firm I was preparing Notice to Readers (inputting the trial balance, preparing journal entries, adjusting account balances, etc. to prepare a company's financial statements), preparing tax returns of all kinds , and working on audit and review engagements. Usually if you work at a larger accounting firm, you're put into a specific department like audit or tax. From what I know, working in industry in an entry level position means that you're doing A/P, A/R or payroll for the company that you work for. If you're just starting out, I'd suggest working at a small or midsized firm so you can get a variety of experience and figure out what area you'd like to work in.

Did they require that person to have experience? What is that person's task is an accountant.

I’m nearly complete with my bachelors. I worry because my average accounting gpa is about 3.5. Will it be hard to get into the field? A lot of schooling is just taking a test then moving on, it feels a bit overwhelming to think about working. Do I need to know have retained everything I’ve learned? I feel unprepared, even though I personally love accounting.
Sara! After I get my bachelor degree in accounting , I would need to take the cpa exam right ? After that I can look towards a job? Is there anything you recommend me to do or is this a straight to the point plan of mine that I am trying to persue
The CPA exam isn't a requirement! They tend to make more (depends on a lot of variables of course) but if you just want to become an Accountant without taking the CPA exam, you definitely can. If you do, you can work while studying for the CPA exam also.
I was really worried to know if we can get more teaching on intermediate accounting 1 and two I want to see some of the explanation about it. I went to the school Library and get the book for intimidate accounting one as I was reading the book is the same concept of financial accounting and managerial accounting including accounting one although I know some of this things I found it easy some how because i know some of the formula of basic accounting I just want hear the explanation for the intermediate accounting 1 only first.
Michael Castro Honestly it doesnt have much math in it. It's mostly basic caculations rather than complex arthmetic and most of it is repetitive so you get used to it.2nd year accounting Student 😂👌
I am bachelor degree in economics. I graduated rather ok (3.31 out of 4.00) but I am more interested in accounting jobs. I have done couple of jobs but never accounting. Do you think I can secure a job in that sector if I attend accounting course at independent institution? Thank you.
It might be different depending on the university but in my first year it was just basic maths, big numbers but easy calculations The calculations are very easy to perform if you understand the question
I love your videos!! But I wonder does accountant need a social skills? Because my friend said an accountant need to do presentation during meeting. Is it true? Hope you see this question because I'm currently waiting for my college admission test results. And my social skills is like 3 out of 10 lol.
Thanks! In my experience, accountants do very little presentations. Of course the higher up you get, like most jobs, the more meetings and presentations you have but in the 4 1/2 years I've worked as an accountant I've never given a presentation. Basic social skills are required, as in most jobs, but nothing out of the ordinary. Hopefully that answers your question.
Hi! I just discovered your blog today so I haven’t yet watched all of your videos so please forgive me if you have already answered this question. I have two semesters remaining in my college career and I am not completely sure if I am majoring in something I want to do. Accounting interests me and I find it enjoyable most of the time, but I don’t know if I want to make a career out of it. Could you maybe discuss possible careers other than accounting for people with an accounting degree. Thank you in advance and I look forward to watching more videos from you!
Math has very little to do with accounting. Most people get accounting confused with actuaries. I would not let your fear or math deter you from accounting!
I'm not sure there's much you can do. But I would suggest finding a study buddy to work problems with and a study spot. One of my friends and I would go to McDonalds (I know not the healthiest but who cares when you're in college) and we would get lunch and work on problems together. It was especially nice when we did homework and had a limited amount of tries because you would basically have double the number of times you could check your answers. Hopefully that helps!
I would like to have a job as an accountant is USA. I have a good career in accounting & tax sphere in russia. Maybe somewhen i will:) Nice video, thank you very much for useful information
It's not the math that's hard in accounting. The reading comprehension, understanding the situation, applying the principles, and etc are it!

I had some Payroll experience too, which probably helped, but I got my certificate yearrrss ago, so this job was a MIRACLE! You can do it without an internship, GO FOR IT!!
There will be people that say you can't, but if YOU believe you can, then you're right! 😊
@@drenee1416 Hey! am thinking about getting an associates degree in accounting! Could you tell me where you live at?! Where you looked to land the job and the work lifestyle. How much do you actually make. I just had a son and am taking online classes but still want to do something i could possibly do from home. Please it would be appreciated if you respond!
@@kabeera8783 I'm in Missouri. As far as where to look, you can look on different job boards like you would for a job in any other industry. Your salary depends on the market (your area) ..and the type of job (entry level, staff accountant, etc.)
You will see jobs for as little as $15 hourly (usually bookkeeper positions) and some up to and over $50,000, it depends on a lot of different things (the company, position, etc..)
@@drenee1416 thank you for responding! With the accounting receivable do you work from home?
@@kabeera8783 I don't.
Hello Sara, my name is Jameson I am at university my major is business I have a question about accounting if I decide to become an accounting to start my career in accounting, what exactly that person does or how to become an accountant, I know you need to have a business degree. Did they require that person to have experience? What is that person's task is an accountant.
im going to major in accounting, math isn't really my strength so im worried im going to fail lol :( as an accountant do you have to do a lot of math manually or is it just all on Excel and other softwares?
You certainly can’t be scared of numbers but if you understand the concepts and laws governing accounting the numbers are nothing to worry about
So to answer your question excel trumps all but you can do the majority of accounting with a basic calculator
I never knew an accountant has such a massive amount of workload! Is it really stressful at the end of a quarter?
From the paper it doesn't look like much but during the quarter it's insane!
Hi..can you please do a new video of this?I am going to interview for an accounting assistant job for an insurance company.can you please include accounting journal entries, preparing month end reports and all..Thank You...
did you got the job
hi i know its been 2 years, but did u get the job?
I’m nearly complete with my bachelors. I worry because my average accounting gpa is about 3.5. Will it be hard to get into the field? A lot of schooling is just taking a test then moving on, it feels a bit overwhelming to think about working. Do I need to know have retained everything I’ve learned? I feel unprepared, even though I personally love accounting.
NO you will recieve on the job training once you start working
What tips/advices will u say to those future accountants?
Do you need to take percal to get into this course
I was really worried to know if we can get more teaching on intermediate accounting 1 and two I want to see some of the explanation about it. I went to the school Library and get the book for intimidate accounting one as I was reading the book is the same concept of financial accounting and managerial accounting including accounting one although I know some of this things I found it easy some how because i know some of the formula of basic accounting I just want hear the explanation for the intermediate accounting 1 only first.
Hi ma'am iam seeking job as an accountant . And can you do a video about accountant receivable and payable. How to do that?
Should I get a bachelor degree in accounting or do Acca
Is there math involved?
Is accounting a lot of math? Like, i know it's usually not calculus level math, but is there a lot of math that has to be done?
A lot of math to do but not really the complex formulas. Just really the 4 basic equations and a looooot of numbers.
Is accounting mostly math? Also is there a lot of reading/writing?
Its not only about the numbers.. theres lots of theory in that aswell
Really find being an accountant so interesting, but I’m not very good at math :/ will college classes prepare enough for this?
Michael Castro Honestly it doesnt have much math in it. It's mostly basic caculations rather than complex arthmetic and most of it is repetitive so you get used to it.2nd year accounting Student 😂👌

I am bachelor degree in economics. I graduated rather ok (3.31 out of 4.00) but I am more interested in accounting jobs. I have done couple of jobs but never accounting. Do you think I can secure a job in that sector if I attend accounting course at independent institution? Thank you.
Miss Sara Marie do accountants use basic math often?
I'm just a curious fifteen year old.
It might be different depending on the university but in my first year it was just basic maths, big numbers but easy calculations
The calculations are very easy to perform if you understand the question
I'm in my 3rd year and they use basic math maybe 10th grade level or less but it's more of word problems than math if that makes sense.
Did you take many math classes in college? Besides algebra, that is?
Yes! Calculus!
+Sara Marie Thank you for answering my question! 😊
what subjects did you take for an accountant
Do you do AR or AP at all for your company?
I do not. At my current company and in my past jobs, AR and AP have been done by individuals who are part-time or who don't have an accounting degree.
Hello :) Your video is amazing. How do you reconcile currencies?

I'm wondering the same thing
Nah not rlly tbh
Just percentages and common stuff not really much for maths
Did you study acca only or aca? Till which level?
Your question was selected for the part 6 video! Make sure to check it out on tomorrow!

Math has very little to do with accounting. Most people get accounting confused with actuaries. I would not let your fear or math deter you from accounting!
Tbh, in accountancy we're not learning all the mathematical formula. Just a basic ones. And for me it easier than advance math
Its okay, work things out.
jayu_red You needn't be.
everybody know 2+2 is 5 so i mean like where is my Cpa
How can I prepare for intermediate accounting 1 and 2?
I'm not sure there's much you can do. But I would suggest finding a study buddy to work problems with and a study spot. One of my friends and I would go to McDonalds (I know not the healthiest but who cares when you're in college) and we would get lunch and work on problems together. It was especially nice when we did homework and had a limited amount of tries because you would basically have double the number of times you could check your answers. Hopefully that helps!
