Hi, Kay! We were stationed at MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. So many wonderful memories!! What was it like during the pandemic? We’re now in FL after 17 years in Great Lakes, where were transferred with the Navy after 3+ yrs in Japan! Retired there after 2 yrs but ended up staying for no particular reason other than we enjoyed the people and the area, Zion, IL!☺️

We use to go to a thrift store called The Dragonfly” in Iwakuni and also twice a year there were what was called “Gomie Day” where the Japanese people threw out all old stuff they didn’t want and we made out like BANDITS with the fabulous finds! Where are you living? Looking forward to more communication! We lived about 30 min from Hiroshima. Loved the people and the culture. I believe there is Friendship Day coming up April 15 at MCAS Iwakuni. The base opens up to the Japanese people and it’s amazing fun. They have an Asian market, HUGE, with all kinds of goodies from different Asian countries. We purchased many items there, too! If the flight wasn’t so difficult we might consider going back for a visit!! 🙏🥰⛩️👘🎎🎏🎊

FYI (regarding the gold-tone HAR brooch at 16:08) … HAR is for Hargo Creations, a company founded by Joseph Heibronner and Edith Levitt (husband and wife) in New York in 1955, but it only existed for 12 years since Joseph died in 1968. Some of the HAR pieces of jewelry are extremely sought after by collectors and/or dealers, so I’d keep my eyes open for them! Specifically, the figural cobra, dragon, genie and oriental pieces are the most sought after, with full parures naturally bringing the highest prices. HAR also produced more traditional pieces like the brooch you have there, as well as enameled pieces that are more moderately priced.

I totally agree totally, I hate key rings as well. One Goodwill I frequent puts sunglasses and all kinds of miscellaneous items. I stopped complaining when I found a vintage Jelly belly brooch that I quickly sold for over $100.00.

I totally agree totally, I hate key rings as well. One Goodwill I frequent puts sunglasses and all kinds of miscellaneous items. I stopped complaining when I found a vintage Jelly belly brooch that I quickly sold for over $100.00.
