Woodie was a mentor to many of us who came upon his music in high school. I’m 31 about to turn 32 in 5 days and still bump Wood to this day. He didn’t rap about stupid ass primitive ego driven bullshit, he would promote one’s own conscience and critical thinking, warn us how life ain’t all sunshine and rainbows, taught us who our true friends and real enemies are, to always stay loyal to our families, and to never back down. And this is coming from a Southern Cali Chicano. I can’t deny that he laced me up on game and made me aware of class oppression and now motivates me to always resist and fight against tyranny. Woodie was a patriot and a prophet. The amount of philosophy and everything he predicted throughout his music is what makes him IMO one of the most influential rappers up there with Tupac. Woodie was a fucken BEAST. He started his own business/record label, produced all his own beats, wrote all his own lyrics and paved the way for many other Hispanic rappers even though he himself was white. He was gonna be the next Tupac. But the government had to silence him just like they did PAC and JFK.
