I live in Texas and the cons of mosquitoes and traffic in every list always cracks me up. That's every day life for me! But when I went to Rochester, it blew me away how clean everything was. The parking lots, the buildings, I was blown away. Everything was so beautiful.

@@ToTheTwinCities Good to know, thinking about moving from CA. Public money here is spent like it's a club, everything is to the highest bid. Apparently I found out freakin Mississippi has better maintained highways than we do, despite how much we "spent" on paper.

Yeahhh, exactly. I’ve been all over the country, and I definitely think Minneapolis is one of the more well-maintained cities. Our roads can struggle, but that’s really because they can’t be maintained for half of the year! I’m not saying our tax system is perfect here, but at least it reflects in that regard!

Just watched your video for the first time and loved it. I moved to Minneapolis from Portland, OR in 1999. I’ve been here ever since then. I’m the artistic type and love all the arts and culture available here. The city park system is one of the best in the nation. One of the best decisions I ever made was to move here. Now that I’ve retired it also looks like I’m here to stay.

I want to move to the Minneapolis area in a few years. I'm originally from Germany and when I visited it reminded me of home all over again. My son has special needs, and I think his needs will still be better met there than here in the small-town south....which I can't wait to leave. Also having the Mayo clinic about an hour or so away will be awesome for him. I hope you're still available to be our realtor in a couple of years! :)

Minneapolis is the bold, strong, and showy twin built on the heights and challenging the world. Saint Paul is the older, quieter, more intelligent twin, hiding in the draw. I love the twin cities; I love both of them. They each have their own personalities and they are beautiful and vibrant and quirky. The winter is brutal but the apartments have underground parking and you can travel from building to building without ever going outside. Besides, the Saint Paul Winter Carnival is a blast. I can back the dude up on the pain of being a Vikings fan, and don't even get me started on the pain of watching the Northstars being ripped away.
When the Mall of America went up I hated it. It's so big that it's very difficult to navigate. But once you learn how, you can pretty much get anything imaginable there. It ended up being my go-to for quick shopping.
One thing that I found particularly attractive about the cities were the religious architecture. Right by the sculpture garden in Minneapolis is the Basilica. It is absolutely gorgeous in there. You gotta see it. And once you think you've never seen anything so beautiful, go check out the cethedral in Saint Paul. I'm not a religious man myself, but you can't be anything but inspired there.

Love from LA. I hope to visit your city someday soon. When I was growing up we did't have a NFL team so I chose to be a Vikings fan because they sucked lol but also because I was a huge Adrian Peterson Fan, Percy Harvin Fan and Brett Favre Fan.
My high school sweat heart would go there every so often because she had a brother who lived there. We're Hispanic (not a big fan of the term "latinx") and she never complained about being treated differently. Her brother and his family seemed to love it there.

Hahah at least this way if they do good, you’ll be riding high 🙌🏼🙌🏼 it is very good to hear you report good treatment of Hispanics here. 4:19 The bridge pictured is actually the Stone Arch Bridge, it used to be a railroad bridge but now it's only open to bikes and pedestrians. Hennepin Avenue Bridge is actually two bridges north of the stone arch about 3/4 of a mile away. The Central Avenue Bridge, St. Anthony Falls lock and dam also lie between the two, though the lock system has been closed for years to mitigate the migration of invasive species north of the falls. The area is now the furthest north you can traverse along the Mississippi river by water from the delta in Louisiana without having to remove you boat from the water

    Pros:
    1- Quality of life
    2 - Sports
    3 - Music
    4 - Park system
    5 - Nature
    6 - Schools+Universities
7-Decent city response to winter/inclement weather
    8-Labor/job market
    9-Healthcare
    10-Arts (kinda?)
    11- Intl Airport
    12- ok avg. pay
    13- ok nightlife
    Cons:
    1-Crime/Lawlessness
2-Bad vibes in noticeable portions of city
3-Weather --- let me say it again -- WEATHER (HUMID/HOT + BONE SHATTERiNG COLD)
4-Sports (enjoy misery but at least u get all major sports)
    5-Nature (no ocean,or mtns )
    6-Mosquitos
    7-Taxes
8-Unusually high rent/homes for being a mid-sized northern midwest city. Like... why?
10-Road conditions (ice or put holes) /construction summers
11-not close to any (desirable) major city? Chicago is closest at 6hr drive time -- but at least coastal flights are 3hrs every time.
12- Bland foods (MN is adverse to spices in meals)
13 - No legalization of weed...
MSP is a decent area to settle down and have a family but if im young/single or young couple -- unless u have family here or close by -- go elsewhere. The majority ppl in MN who come back after leaving do so because of family/friends. The pros/cons are quite even, but kin/friends push it over the top. If u have no real connection/roots here.. no way id pick it over Denver or another major city. Its FOR SURE better than Chicago tho--No doubt about it. I think MSP is the jewel of the midwest... not sure thats saying much tho

I agree with everything here, especially the bit about not having family or friends here. I have moved around a bunch, most recently from New York, and comparatively it’s really hard to establish new friendships, most are up for a less than 30 second interaction but unless you talk about sports are pretty uninterested in forming friendships past their already established group.

You alluded to, but glossed over a very important thing.
The Twin Cities are a corporate dynamo, with the headquarters of 16 Fortune 500 Corporations and tens of thousands of well-paying management jobs. Only a handful of American cities can claim similar stats. (Indeed, there are more Fortune 500 Corporations in the Twin Cities than there are in Los Angeles).
The World's largest private corporation is headquartered there (Cargill). The World's 8th largest corporation is also headquartered there (United Health). (Hello, United Health is twice the size of Microsoft for comparison) Everyday brands like Best Buy, Target, General Mills, Polaris, 3M, US Bank and Land O Lakes are headquartered there. That's a major reason why the Twin Cities are so affluent. That's why MSP Airport is the 3rd largest hub of Delta Airlines.
Don't discount the influence of major corporations.

Hey @@JR-kr9cb That's a great question and I'll probably do a video on this topic someday! It depends on so many things! Since you like the city, I'll keep it to some of the closest suburbs to the city: Saint Louis Park is an awesome first ring suburb, that basically is an extension of Uptown (check out my comparison video of uptown and north loop). Edina is an excellent spot, some of the best schools in metro area, but comes with a high price tag. New Brighton is another affordable suburb with very good schools. Bloomington/Richfield are two great southern suburbs that are relatively affordable. Colombia Heights is an up and coming neighborhood that extends off of NE MPLS! Don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have more questions!

Great video. I hope the Twin Cities recover from the protests. I have some questions tho: Are people friendly to latinx people and also how tough is/were the Police Department on weed? Of course some states are not legal but there are PDs who are very chill about it.

    • @ToTheTwinCities
      @ToTheTwinCities  4 роки тому +18

Hey! I fell asleep while responding to this the other night! My bad. Haha. So first I want to speak to the protests (not just for you, but for everybody who might read this). I see and hear a lot of people (not from the twin cities) who think the twin cities are in chaos. It’s not even close. We had two days with rioting, and LOTS of peaceful protests. But literally the day after the protests there were so many people out helping and in a day it was clean. And overall the vibe is one of positive change, and in the heart of the city it’s almost more peaceful than before all of this.
I can only speak to my experience and research I can do, but I do feel like the city is very Latinx friendly. In general the metro is growing more and more diverse and it’s generally a very liberal area. According to a census, the Hispanic population has grown by 20% over the state and certain counties in the metro are upwards of 30% growth!
Disclaimer: I’m not a lawyer and this isn’t legal advice. Hahaha. From what I have researched, weed was largely decriminalized, still not legal, but it most cases possession of less that 1.5 ounces, is a misdemeanor. So ticket or fine or whatever. I do think it’s becoming more lax and I would be surprised if we weren’t one of the next states to legalize.
Hope that is helpful and I keep the questions coming!

St Paul has a very large Latin community. Any of the inner ring suburbs of Minneapolis are pretty diverse. Born n raised '91 to '09 there. Got pulled over circa '09 with weed and was ticketed and car impounded. Got pulled over a year later with weed again and cop took it and said have a good night. Depends on who you run into.

This video was the first video of this vlogger suggested in my video feed this morning and makes me sad that I can't afford to buy a home, cause he seems awesome. Not only areas are usually extremely pet friendly, apartment buildings mid and high amenity luxury apartments usually are also pet friendly with pet amenities like doggie spas (dog wash stations) and designated pet spots both in downtown and other parts of minneapolis and the suburbs for those who need to rent before being able to buy.
Hopefully it will hope though Jesse, if people on social medial when they ask me about info about the Twin Cities (especially Minneapolis as I lived in Downtown up until 13 months ago) and are looking to buy a home, I'll forward them to this channel ...

My wife and I are looking at this area even though we don't know anyone here because our daughter was recently diagnosed with Autism and we've heard Minnesota has some of the best Autism resources in the country, anyone know if that's true? We currently live in Bakersfield CA, I fear my wife (and maybe me too) will have a rough transition from 40-110 dry weather to the Twin Cities weather, but we rarely actually get to take advantage of the sunny blue skies here because the air quality is so awful, I also hear the air quality in the twin cities is some of the best among major US cities, anyone can confirm that too? How many months of the year would you say the weather is actually nice enough to want to spend time outside in it? Lastly, are the more diverse areas of town nice areas? I'm a white man married to a black women with a mixed autistic daughter, seems likely my daughters life will be hard enough with her autism, I'd hate to move her into a situation where she also has being the only dark skinned child in all her classes to contend with.
Oh, and to Jesse, great video, thanks for making it, we're not yet sure if we're going to move (as there are some autism resources in our area) but if your still working as a realitor, you'll be at the top of my list of people to check in with.
