Test different screen resolution options with wireless/wired dex please. Also maybe teat different devices dextops and see how they differ (moto, lg, samsung, maybe we can get video out on the duo running windows?)
I absolutely love lapdock since they are a better version of a cheap chromebook but chromebook can now run steam games natively. Android Desktop needs some more love from Google.
I purchased the wired version of the 14 inch for $229 and I absolutely love it. It gives me a 5G laptop when connected to my fold 4 and I am shocked how fast it is. I realize I'm using mobile apps but it is considerably faster than my wife's Surface laptop 4. And when I'm ready to upgrade my phone, it will be like upgrading my laptop. I also tried my switch oled and it runs great! I'm super happy with it.
Why do u have to be tethered to your lapdock, when there are substitute battery packs for recharging your phone that should work with your dock a well.
Not sure I understand the point you're making. This dock can be used wirelessly or plugged in via a C cable. Why would I also carry a battery pack when this acts as a battery pack when I choose to use it wired? I feel like I'm missing something here.
Could this work as the second screen necessary in Streamyard to be able to record myself and my screen? I'm currently using my Wacom tablet to do that, but I wonder if there would be more functionality if it was on a device like the UPerfect. Or maybe it wouldn't work at all lol. Thanks for the great content.
If you plugged it into a PC via HDMI you could definitely use it as a second monitor. Honestly, doing it like that would be pretty similar to what you're already doing though.
@@scaryifliteral I just thought having a usable keyboard and a touch screen might be more helpful than the Wacom pen lol, but thanks and have a great day :)

I wish this was a tablet. I'd have it in the kitchen while cooking and cleaning. As a laptop, I'm finding it hard to think of a common use case, especially since Android Messages, UA-cam, UA-cam Music, Google Maps, (among other web applications) are PWA with offline functionality and notifications that can be downloaded onto Windows. You don't have to limit it to smartphones as you can also connect desktop tower/mini PC and gaming consoles to it as well. Heck, you can also use it as a secondary display for your exisiting Windows/macOS/Linux laptop.
i swear, if major software and game devs actually looked at the power of the new chips (SD8G2 in the S23) and actually started porting desktop level programs and games then this docking your phone solution would probably replace the laptop
Yep. The only thing stopping Android from being a viable replacement for a PC at this point is software. It's getting better but there's still a silly notion that desktop grade software "can't" be used on mobile devices.

Here's an off the wall request: can you test it with your surface duo running windows 11? Since video out doesn't work yet, a wireless lapdock is the only way to run a bigger screen. I tried it with an older HP Elite X3 lapdock and it worked as well as sending keystrokes from the keyboard properly, but no track pad. I bet since kb and track pad are sent via bt, the whole thing may work.
The price is always discounted with a code to $399. I bought mine several months ago and use it everyday. It works really really well. Connection is always rock stable. Touch is great wireless, but as you point out the pointer lags a bit wirelessly (perfect when plugged in).
Do you know anyone with an iPhone, Shane? I saw the screen gave instructions for pairing with one. I wonder what would appear on screen. I second what someone else asked for: Surface Duo with Win 11 on it.
I've been wanting something like this for ages! Next step would be to add this into the X Pro design (for a more detachable / tablet) type setup and you have a fantastc setup with a Fold for phone / mini tablet / laptop experience all from one(ish) device.
My gripe with this one is the wasted aspect ratio. This form factor screams 16:10. Also if this one could have a 2560x1600 it would have been a killer deal. Still 1080p IMO is meh. Specially becaut it is 60hz.
I'm okay with the additional wireless connectivity option even though I'm not going to use it, but $600 undiscounted RRP can be rather steep when the NexDock Wireless is only $349. However, I manage to have a local dealer who can sell this lapdock for the equivalent of $260 as of February 2023. That is good value to me.
Yeah the price at $600 is wild. You can get an actual laptop with lower end specs but still have windows in it, for cheaper/or as much as this, full hd, and it can also run dex easily lol. $300-340 should be it's max price
@@joshjohnson2753 aren't the UPERFECT lapdocks always heavily discounted from the stated MSRP on their own website? I wouldn't pay USD600.00 even for the NexDock 360 but at USD349.00 it is reasonable considering it allows me to use my smartphone as a notebook computer with or without a cable.
@@joshjohnson2753yeah however from what I read, dex on windows has more input lag than a wired connection to an external monitor. Thus the lapdock would be a solid option and better than a Surface Go 3 Dex setup in that case. Dex is convenient since I don't have to rely on wifi access when at a Cafe since I'm running off my unlimited phone data plan. Also, I don't have unlimited Hotspot on my data plan. Lastly everything is on my phone thus continuity with the lapdock dex setup is seamless. I almost was tempted to get a surface go 3 however I'll stick with the lapdock. 30fps using Windows Dex ain't it for me. Wireless Dex would still run at 30 fps however at least I have an option to run this wired for 60 fps with low input lag. Also this is a great backup monitor for a Nintendo Switch, ROG Ally, and a Steam Deck.
I still did not realize the point to buy it at this price for using it with the phones. when You can have a surface go 3 with a signature keyboard for only 490$! That's a genuine windows tablet that includes CPU and GPU and OS, a much better display, and builds quality and speakers. also more portable and less weight. besides, you can use DEX mode or cast your android device screen via the Phone Link app which has the exact same features.
This certainly isn't a device that makes sense for as many people a standard laptop or tablet. The main idea for Dex obviously, is a simplified workflow. Same storage, same apps, same logins. I just shot a short on my phone, then edited it on this thing without moving any files and that is cool. Yes, you can use Dex on a Windows laptop, even if it is a bit laggy that way. What you're not going to be using a Windows device for though is as a portable monitor/battery bank which is compatible with anything that has HDMI cable or that can video over C. Use it as a really nice monitor for the Switch. Monitor, mouse and keyboard for Steam Deck. A portable monitor of this quality is going to run $100-$200. Rather than asking why buy this instead of a laptop, you should look at it as a portable monitor with a big battery and a mouse + keyboard combo for other devices to use. I think the perfect customer for this ends up using it for several things.
With these lapdocks when you upgrade your smartphone you essentially upgrade your lapdock for free. You cannot do that with any standard notebook computer.
Hi, at the moment I have an idea to use that in combo with mini PC powered by ryzen 5900hx or ryzen 6900hx (0.6 kg): in theory this lapdock should be able to power such mini PC with power delivery. The idea itself is to have: 1. a base mini PC with 0.6kg (both SSD and RAM upgradable), connected to a monitor and keyboard on a workplace; 2. this lapdock 1.25kg + mini PC's 0.6kg = 1.85kg + usb-c charger to be able to take mini PC into a travel. Thus a bit havier than regular ultrabook, but modular and more upgradable options (well, I had to buy gaming laptop to be able to install 64GB of RAM into, while I don't need an dGPU al the time. Yes, marketing says, that it consumes `almost 0 watts` while idle, but I still need to carry it anywhere I go) and ultrabooks are usually compromise on their upgradability and cooling and thus power budget for CPU. Am I got correctly: usb-c on the right is for charging the lapdock and usb-c on the left can provide power delivery for a device?; 3. one of mini PC's NVMe can be used for NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 -> PCIe 4.0 x16 riser to connect external GPU at home, just in case if iGPU will become a bottleneck; 4. instead of mini PC, raspberry pi-like device can be taken in travel instead which allow to work with browser / SSH / emacs, but the crazy and main idea is mini PC :) the samsung dex is an obvious option as well, but I don't have samsung smartphone, but I have rpi; 5. if lapdock will be connected to mini PC all the time, it can work as uninterruptable power supply (in theory). Yes, I know, that the result will be harder than buying gaming laptop and price of all options won't be too different from buying something like ASUS G513QY or similar, but for some reason I am still interested in such modular setup, maybe it's because I think, that when mini PC's components will became old, mini PC can be reprofiled as media center/home NAS/router without attemps to sold old gaming laptop). Plus, if you will damage your lapdock, it won't affect another components. Like leaking water on a keyboard won't blow up your motherboard/SSD and so on(theoretically, hehe). And yes, I know, that there are options of laptop with ryzen 5900hx without dGPU, but I saw no such laptops with upgradable RAM and they are usually limiting CPU's TDP so I see no point to get 5900hx in a first place then... It will be too naive to ask to test full setup, as, of course, you may not have all the hardware available. But it will be interesting for me if you test power delivery of some power hungry device (not smartphone, hehe) and if it possible to charge lapdock while lapdock itself will be charging that power hungry device...
