    Great device indeed. If sometimes you're nore sure about the root key, BW can detect it for you by right-clicking on the waveform and then selecting "Detect root key"

    Adding Voice Stacks and individually modulating their parameters works very well for achieving dynamic grain clouds. Likewise for getting cool layered effects in the other sample modes.

    The only thing missing in the sampler is the multiple type of envelope effects, like you have in the FL Studio Fruity Sampler. Especially enveloped pitch (although maybe you can achieve this with micro pitch in Bitwig per note?) and enveloped filters. Because it's a bit silly that you need Snapheap to easily do this if you think about how much modulation capabilities Bitwig has.

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  Рік тому +6

      you can do it with modulators etc, I just like the kilohearts curve editor for very fine control

    Can you scratch the sample in Sampler? Not a scratch effect but like a Dj doing it.When the sample plays plays, grab the transpose bar (like in granular mode) release it and it plays again?

  • @howardhutchinson1631
    @howardhutchinson1631 Рік тому

    I really don't like to modulate the offset parameters. Bitwig should bei able to modulate all loop, start, length etc. directly. Also when heavily modulating loop parameters, there should be a "Always start at new loop position" function. Sometimes a newly generated loop while holding a note is located before the running sample position and ends up in silence. Then a new trigger is needed which always is sample start and not loop start. So, how to always start at loop start?

    Now we just need Bitwig to upgrade the Sampler with proper slicing methods (a la Simpler) and time-stretch. 💫

    • @DashGlitch
      @DashGlitch  Рік тому +1

      Right click - slice, choose settings. Pretty sure there's far more settings there than simpler. Also Granular decouples pitch and time, so it is the superior time-stretch ;)

      @@DashGlitch Woops, youtube just swallowed my answer, it seems: I didnt expect an answer from you on this topic, haha :D should have been more precise in formulating what i mean. It's all about the workflow/efficiency/simplicity on how to achieve the wanted result. What i mean is best described in the feature request texts on Bitwish. "The existing feature “Slice to multisample” is impractical beyond basic cases. If you don’t get the multisample right, you need to edit each sample separately and adjust boundaries manually. Or go back to the arranger, apply the fixes, and create a multisample again. For these reasons, users need to either spend extra time preparing their samples, or use a sampler outside of Bitwig." Thus the feature request: "Integrate in the Sampler the audio slicing features already available in the arranger, for easier and faster manipulation of audio samples.
      Manual slicing, equivalent to using the Knife tool
      Automatic slicing based on onsets, beat markers or time, as in “Slice In Place”
      Manipulation of slices, just like the manipulation of audio events.
      Adjust boundaries between slices (drag)
      Add, delete, and nudge slice points.
      Consolidate and delete slices.
      Mapping to controller for easy and precise slicing using MIDI hardware.
      The slices of the sample would be visible all at once in the single audio file window (shown below, in a stock image without the slices). To manipulate slices, users would double-click the Sampler window and then work on the list editor already available for multisamples (see below), adapted for slicing a single audio file. All this could be achieved integrating in the Sampler features already available in Bitwig. One nice addition would be “Lazy Chop”, slicing a sample manually while playing the audio. This is an option expected in a sampler nowadays."
      Concerning time stretching: "Bitwig’s sampler can’t time stretch samples instead of speeding them up and slowing them down. This limits the possibility of the sampler when it comes to playing chromatically with samples."
      It's like with Bitwigs Audio Quantization. Yes, Bitwig has Audio Quantization. But in order to achieve a result like in Ableton, you need at least 7 actions, including several selection-actions, slice on onsets, and last but not least creating micro-fades, when dealing with specific content like e.g. a Shaker-Loop, which otherwise gets harsh transient-sounds, whithout micro-fades on each slice. In Ableton, you press Quantize. Done. Often times it's not 100% about that a Feature is completely missing in Bitwig - but rather, that achieving results is more complicated/slower. Not to say there arent many examples, where it's vice versa, hehe - but just focusing on the things Bitwig could improve now.

    I don't know man, something about that Cloud Seed VST that...well, makes it sound odd. Nah, not that, I just think it sounds bad. It could be a bad type of audio sample to use it on, perhaps; so, maybe i can't say, either way, from a single example. Reverb is my favorite effect by far (minus shimmer), and most of my reverbs are pedals. I also use a lot of texture in my work, so i'm not totally unfamiliar with using reverb on textured sounds. However, that Cloud Seed vst is never gonna make it on my hard drive, that much I can say.
    thanks for the demo, gonna have to try this out.

    I got Bitwig 8 track for free with a purchase, upon loading it up it looked like a kids version of Ableton (I know it's made by former Ableton people), it reminded me of Garageband and Logic, so that's as far as I got with it, after watching this video I might give it another go.

    • @DashGlitch

      considering Ableton has core features that have been broken since day 1, "how it looks" is far less important than "how it works" to me personally. I know most Ableton folks will disagree ;) haha

      Bitwig has a far more pleasing on the eye interface than the awful flat look of Ableton. If you judge a book by its cover, you often get to read some awful books. Bitwig is several orders of magnitude greater than Ableton.

    A serious problem with 'Sampler' is that it does not save the samples with the preset, that is to say that if for any reason you move the samples from your computer's hard drive, the presets will be unusable. too bad about that!
