How does this guy only have 97k subscribers? One of the best tech channels. Great video. As for the results considering it included 1.5 hours of gaming and was connected to mobile data the entire time I guess 5.3 hours isn't terrible but certainly not good. If the reported excessive battery drain of the Pixel 7 Pro's screen at higher brightness is a software issue that can be resolved then it good get better.
Once again a great clip and an interesting comparison in terms of battery draining between the 6Pro and 7Pro. In my opinion it's not a big difference between these two. But do you think is it worth to switch from a 6Pro to a 7Pro or is it better to keep it one more year and wait until the Pixel 8 comes out? Because I have a 6Pro and I'm satisfied with it except the average battery life.
As a 6 Pro user I'm willing to wait for the 8 Pro to be released next year October. It works just fine still and I like to see a big upgrade before I get a new phone. Let's hope Tensor G3 brings even greater efficiency gains over Pixel 7/Tensor G2
Great comparison, would like to see more of that, would also be interested to see if there is any difference between 1080P resolution vs. 1440p battery wise
For battery drain: You might fully charge the units between each test, as drain rate will vary a little depending on how charged the battery is. Or you could charge both to 80% since that's a more normal level. Also, did the phones start each test at the same temp? It seems like you were rapidly going through the tests in order, so the phones wouldn't have the chance to cool down to the same starting temp.
The amount of bugs I experienced with the Pixel 6 Pro made me trade it in for the iPhone 14 Pro. I'd really be interested to see the battery comparison between the iPhone 14 Pro and Pixel 6 Pro/7Pro. Based on my normal usage, it seems like the iPhone lasts a little longer for me despite the battery being way smaller. Good video as usual!
I traded my iPhone 14 Pro after i got 'Sim not recognized' issues. Airdrop didnt work and there was some reception and overheating issues. Not sure if these have been fixed but its unacceptable for $1400 phone. Here I thought only Pixels have day one issues and bugs

iOS is dumb and restrictive though. Can't even do something as basic as placing home screen icons anywhere for reachability. Siri is an airhead. Apple Maps is always off. I could go on and on.
@@ssaini5028Yea being on different phones taught me pretty much all phones are overpriced shitboxes, but it does usually get better with time. Which is rtarded, might as well wait a year to get the phone for the updates.
For the video recording...I am pretty sure the thermal readouts in the options are either on the Processor or the battery itself and not the camera sensor which is why they shut off at seemingly low temperatures.
Thanks for this. I can finally decide to hop off my FOMO to upgrading my 6 Pro to 7 Pro due to mediocre improvements. I don't know why the 7 pro is touted as such a great upgrade from other top reviewers.
That's very inaccurate test. During gaming test you can see the 7 doesn't even have any internet connection while 6 shows LTE. After the first test you saw the H+ and know it will affect battery, you should have balanced the level out and tested the rest evenly. I'll correct your mistake the first test you have to add 4%. On second test with the game, if no internet add 2% again. Total of 6%. At the end subtract that from your 10% overall difference and you are left with only 4% difference between the two. That's nothing to get excited about.
I don't understand why you said (for the first test) that the 7 Pro image was worse because on the 6 pro the one on the left you can clearly see that there was some lags and the image was the worse than the one on the right.
On my 6 Pro I had several thermal alert and reduce usage when I'm in my car in the summer using Android Auto, the phone can get really hot at this time because it's a convertible and it's difficult to keep the phone not too hot.
how about battery temp? for me it is what matters most, anything between 10-35° is okay, +39° is lot of heat and reduced battery... My Poco X3 Pro playing genshin lowest 60fps gets up to 46° battery, that's so hot and device won't charge fast until cooled down
Everything now gets more heat than ever... Even Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, they promised better thermals but it's actually heating just a little less than SD8G1... The latest coolest is the Snapdragon 870.
@@RealAdiker yeah, but 8 gen 2 on some devices work flawless, I've seen S23 ultra 45m test playing genshin at max 60fps and it won't drop lower than 50 fps, that's as good as 865/870, but yeah, not all 8g2 devices work the same, but this year I might switch
Very good test. 1 question though, did you wait for the phones to cool down in between tests to see which app really causes to heat up the device and by how much? Coz I noticed in your video in between tests the thermal seems to be always at around 46C. Maybe some apps does not really get the phone that hot if they have cooled down. Thanks for the video this really helps. I have the Pixel 6 Pro and by the looks of if its not worth the upgrade.
Huh that crazy that the pixel 7 pro has done worse in 4k60. In my experience with the 7 pro it was far more cooler compared to my 6 pro and has lasted longer. I think it is due to me living in a cooler climate in comparison to your video.
I think you should have used the same wallpaper on both of the phones. It's possible the Pixel 7 used a little less battery because of the black parts in the wallpaper.
Great comparison :) .. A question please, which App do you recommend to check Battery health? I have recently the AccuBattery, but I'm worried about battery consumption of this App running in the background.
Something I was really looking forward to in the Pixel 7 was better thermals, but unfortunately it's even worse. My Pixel 6 was just too hot for me to use comfortably, the biggest problem is that the heat is around the area where you hold it, if they put the SOC at the top I wouldn't even think about it.
these are extreme tests so not indicative of normal usages generally as well battery adaption comes through after a few weeks plus updates. Gen 2 and its Ai is impressive and looks silky smooth n bright. im still using the 5 for its size
I don't know about your pixel 6 pro but mine would not charge with the official Google 30w brick. Mine only charged with the 18w brick I had from previous pixel models. My 7 pro however does actually charge with the 30w and I can finally use my pixel stand gen 2 at it's full potential.
It's the camera module that heats up and forces the recording to shut down, not the SoC. That's why the temps don't look very high. You're looking at the wrong sensors.
I was hoping that the 7 would've had a more significant SOT improvement over last year's device, but I should've known better knowing it uses a Samsung chip. On top of that, a brand new phone lasting only minutes longer than a year old phone is saying something.
It to early to see how far the Phone goes to in battery, it has to learn you in day life when you use it. Also they had other test with other phone and it has even beaten the S22 Ultra in some test which not bad.

Personally I think there isn't much difference between the tensor G1 and G2, I just think Google managed to fix software issues over the last year and since they both run the same software... Not sure why temps are higher than 6 pro on 7 Pro. Camera recording should have been longer since most reviewers are saying temps are drastically lower than 6 pro. Even PBKreviews and xda did mention better thermal design. Maybe waiting for November or December update should be better since we might be getting feature drops and it will make better sense what makes tensor g2 better than g1. Is the network carrier Etisalat?
Is it a fair comparison though your battery is one year older in the 6 Pro

One thing : in one year usage 6 pro's battery is degraded over time due to many charge cycle.
I forgot to aks. How's your knee?
It's not that great. I expected better from 7 pro.
It's not a big enough difference to upgrade tbh
Just for the modem alone I will update my pro6
Wow.. such a dissapointment.. I really wanted to buy the phone.
Thanks for the video, great as always.
