It is such an honor to be able to watch these quality highlights in splendid quality! After experiencing many losses to legends in the professional sport of tennis early in the career like in 1990 Pete finally managed to overcome such adversity and eventually able to win the big one in the same tournament. If fortunate enough hopefully the full match in this quality will appear. Nevertheless thank you USO!
Sampras was very heavily influenced by Lendl. Lendl had invited him to train with him (as he did with a number of younger players) and Sampras spoke in later years about how much he learned from Lendl's work ethic. Sampras's forehand technique was also based on a revised version of Lendl's.
You are right. Lendl practiced with Sampras at Lendl's home in Greenwich, CT. Afterwards, they would go cycling together. Sampras said he was so sore after training with Lendl, that he couldn't even walk home after.
@@zeddeka Sampras "drawback" was his backhand and the long rallies ",that's why he never won a R.G title and most of his GSlams were the Wimbledon, that a killer service was just enough to take u to the final AT LEAST!!!!
@@christsant808 I don't think that was the reason. On clay he didn't feel comfortable after 1996 and quite frankly didn't work hard enough on the surface He did win five US Opens and two Australian Opens, which require much more than just serving well.

Before this match, I had never seen Sampras play and was rooting for Lendl. After this match I was a Sampras fan, and he has been my tennis idol ever since
Thanks to Lendl, Sampras changed his two handed backhand into one handed. There is nothing more to add to that....'cause anyone who understands tennis a bit...knows how much benefits can get from that change a kind of a player like Pete.
Sampras used to customize it with a lot of lead tape and strung it with a thin natural gut around 30 kilograms. PS 85 plays nice with Luxilon Alu Power around 24/23 kg.
For that racquet, Sampras used very thin natural gut string. Imagine an amateur using that racquet with any synthetic string, obviously it would be unplayable.
I think he was being diplomatic because I don't think today's players can play real tennis, they rally within reach of each other and in the strike zone which is knee to shoulder!🎾
When was that said? Sampras said he wouldn't win anything against Nadal, Federer, Djokovic even on grass? Put back the Wimbledon grass of the 90's and no poly string, and only Federer might have a chance against Sampras at Wimbledon.
Tell me smthing other than serve-volley Sampras used to do!!Tell me what his tactic was other than serve nd volley!!No way he is comparable to big3 Rafa Roger Nole..Hes miles behind those 3.....
Absolutely. You talk perfect sense. Everyone knows (including you of course) that guys like Francis Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz are ten times better than Sampras. Goodness! That is not even a discussion..

We need more and more Sampras matches and content. He’s the true GOAT of tennis
Samp wouldn’t score a point against nadal or Novak on any surface. That Easter forehand and one hand weak back hard would get eaten up .

Yes, he is excellent. It was not only his 1str and 2nd serves.
This was the passing of the torch from 80s dominator Lendl to 90s Sampras
Yes, pretty much.
Hairy Pete and big robot Ivan, what a match it was👍

Pete changed his backhand to a 1HBH when he was 14 because his coach thought it would help him win Wimbledon. He met Lendl later on.
He changed to one handed backhand because of his coach 😂

Lendl and Sampras were cut from the same cloth. Lendl must have felt playing against himself!
Yes, I think this too.
I tried playing wit Sampras racket pro staff 85. I couldn’t score a point . That racket makes tennis 10x harder

Serve was the discriminating factor here
Cierto. Era la seña de identidad de Sampras. El mejor servicio que he visto en un jugador hasta el día de hoy
These are erm, erm, how to say it? Interesting highlights......
Sampras himself said if he and Agassi were playing today they wouldn’t win anything against the big 3
