As a New Yorker, yeah you doing that in 50 minutes as world record. It takes me about 50 minutes to get from Meeker/Morgan to the Williamsburg by Peter Luger!
The terminus of I-278 in Linden, New Jersey is located near the now-demolished General Motors Linden Assembly Plant. You can see the signage for the Plant's entrance on the overpass at 50:05.
I don't believe I ever drove this three-highway route in one trip. But seeing it rekindles my memories of the folly of trusting the official route designations. In this trip we travel geographically south on the Bruckner, briefly east on the GCP and south again on the BQE. All the while we were nominally on I-278 West.
The only highway that passes through all five boroughs. I live in the Bronx and used to drive the Bruckner Expressway fairly often. But the elevated part has been under reconstruction for over a year, and I have been staying off it. So I didn't know that Exit 48 is now signed "Leggett Ave/Hunts Point Mkt" instead of "E 138 St" like the previous version was until seeing this video.
Noo Yawk! Ain't it beeyouteefull? And Joisey? They gots grass over there! And US 1-9, so they's don't have to worry about 2-8. Glad you drove it, because I don't think I ever will.
2021 PREVOST MTA Express Bus on Brunker Expy. At 8:20. M60+SBS to Manhattanville-Broadway-110th from LaGuardia Airport as he enters Queens at the entrance ramp to RFK (Formal Triborough Bridge). 3 SIM Buses on Gowanus Expy. The S79+SBS To bay Ridge-91st Street Station at the beginning of the State Island Portion of the Verrazanos Narrows Bridge. & another SIM Bus entering the Service Road. Last time I was on that Partial Beltway, I was stuck on Brunker Expy. For 1 hour, stuck in Manhattan for 30 mins., flew past Queens in 10 mins., but the worst is being stuck on the BQE for 2-3 hours. Gowanus was not bad at 20-35 mins. Staten Island was alright for 10-25 mins. My plans for I-287/New York Metropolitan Beltway is to replace that section of NY-440, & W. Shore Expy.; as well as, NJ-440. Still waiting for the Long Island Sound Tunnel to Continue I-287 into long Is. To Jones Beach for Conjunction with Wantagh Pkwy/Expy., Ocean Causeway, Meadowbrook Pkwy./Expy., Loop Causeway, onto the the Long Beach Island, on Nassau Expy., then Rockaway Tpke/Blvd., then The conduits, Linden Blvd, & Prospect Expy before joining the I-278 PB to join the other side of I-287, making that beltway possible.
Mike, you have no video from the Hicks Street trench, the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel(*) interchange, or the elevation of the viaduct over the Gowanus Canal! (* Renamed for the notoriously corrupt Hugh Carrey. Blergh!)
The fact you did 95% of this road in 51 Mins must be a world record.

This is the most scenic route through NYC.
Thanks for the drive. Except for a portion on Staten Island, I've only ever driven Eastbound.
Made great time! I mean I'm impressed!
Awesome video.

4:45 that scared me
NY has some wild drivers for sure
@@MileageMikeTravels How were you that calm?
I see they FINALLY corrected the spelling of Verrazzano.
That was like 2 or 3 years ago.
278 is an interesting interstate and wish it would connect to its parent i-78
It's an illegal interstate because it has no way to reach 78 and its still possible for it to redesignated to with a different parent interests
@@alexthemtaandr211weatherfa2true but I doubt that will happen

Yeah, that is the section where it has been deteriorating badly, and New York is having a hard time keeping it up.
If you count Wards/Randall's Island as Manhattan.
@@markterribile6948 It's part of the Borough of Manhattan, even though not part of Manhattan Island.
I-278 Was The Crumbling Expressway In New York City
I'll be driving on this highway
But going east/north bound towards Boston from Texas
Good luck!
@@MileageMikeTravels good luck to you on your future travels aswell

30:13 yikes the triple cantilever not looking in good shape at all.

almost 50 dollars in toll?
Gotta pay to drive in NYC
278 I'm on 728 highway to New York City
No lane discipline at all . I wish New Yorkers would learn to keep right unless overtaking and passing.
@Garden State RX8 seems that way most of the time
@gardenstatePR Well, Russia (Dashcam footage is everywhere for it) is even worse.
