I think Dark Souls had it too, but I love the "wait, what?" item descriptions. Black Souls, Lobotomy Corporation, somehow Pokemon. For example, getting a new anomaly in LC and its description being: The girl begged in tears. "Mister, please cut off my feet..." Or killing Hansel and Gretel boss in Black Souls, them dropping a book and its description saying "Dying from starvation, the kids hallucinated a house made of candy".
I think the reason why Garnt had an issue with the lip syncing and voice acting in FFVIIR might be because Square used AI to animate the different lip sync languages. It significantly improved in Rebirth, but in Remake, some of the lip syncing looks kinda odd in the lesser important cutscenes.
Having just recently played the Pathfinder games, I'm balls deep in the "Story Games with Voice Acting" camp. It's a pain whenever that game throws you a huge wall of text, and that thing wasnt voice acted, and felt so good when it was.
Fear abd hunger is where I first saw connor actually reading everything And he looked so enthralled in it too Same as me God fear and hunger is so gooood both games

It's just an emotional scene that impacts the tone and seriousness of the situation of what you are in in the game without using any words....admittedly that game HEAVILY relies on that exact thing a lot making it almost feel like a movie.
Actually agree about voice acting. Too many games have voice acting but nothing visually interesting to look at. Genshin is a good example, I feel like I'm 'wasting' the voice acting if I skip it but I could just read it in half the time instead of looking at static character models with unmatched lip-flaps, no expressions and the same 20 canned poses/animations with basic shot-reverse-shot. How is that supposed to hold my attention for tens of hours, let alone games that voice sprites or the like and have even less going on visually. Voice acting pretty much requires me to sit and just watch it like I would a program except without the visual part of the visual medium! like that cutscene where you are holding a bloody knife, bawling your eyes out over the dead body of your wife, the skip it and you are surprised you are playing a claw machine mini game in a strip club
Joey has already discovered the series, I believe there was an episode where he previously talked about playing Xenoblade 3 for many hours straight when it released.
I skipped most cutscenes in FF14 ARR and watched a recap later. I would have never played 14 all the way to endwalker if I didn't do this. ARR story wasn't really interesting, the pacing was too terrible for my adhd ass.
I clicked on the video just to comment this: Do you guys seriously waste 16 minutes of your life watching a video to know a person's opinion on skipping cutscenes?
Nah, good games are the ones that can balance well between its story (if it has one) and the gameplay, so if a game has a lot of cutscenes it should have the same amount (or more) playable sections Remember, video games are a form of media and there's no "right" way it should be presented, because not everyone's interests are the same
I have a hard time sitting through movies, and I personally believe good cutscenes can turn a mediocre game into an excellent one. The Trails series games mentioned in the video being a perfect example of this.
Only main character voice I don’t like in English is Sephiroth, but that’s mostly because I liked his old voice more. His new voice in Remake sounds just fine otherwise.
I'm gonna say it... You can skip half of the story in FF14 and still get an enjoyable experience, There's so much filler it's crazy (especially ARR and SB)
@@mrswag2866 Nah big cap. Even though it does have its slow parts most of those aren't even cutscenes you can skip because they are as low budget as possible. If you are skipping then it was important.

It generally boils down to the game and the player's preferences. There's a test online surveying gamer preferences like favorite genres, if you often prefer a lot less story, fast-paced VS chill, competitive or co-op, if customization is important for you, etc.
I wish it was that simple. Player's preferences can be deemed superior or inferior to other player's preferences. And nobody wants their own preferences to be deemed inferior.
@@XanderVJ It doesn't really measure which genres are "better"; it's just collecting test results on game preferences and analyzing patterns through it.

Skipping cutscenes in a game that’s based around a story is an absolute red flag. Sure not all games need cutscenes and I don’t care about skipping cutscenes in a like rhythm game or something. And I also don’t care about people skipping side quests. But skipping the main story in like RPGs is something I don’t really understand. Number one rule is to never skip the cutscenes on a first play through. After that, you can skip them as much as you want. You need the context. Example, the Yakuza series. You could end up in a completely different location and no clue what’s going on if you skip a main story cutscene.
