Hi, Jake. This video plus with some educated and high quality collection of your video is simply masterpiece. I wish you come to Indonesia to watch Asian Games 2018 or at least try make a new Abandoned series video like Rumah Kentang or Menara Saidah. Or maybe combination of Abandoned and Cancelled Series like Hambalang Sports Centre. Thanks again, Jake. I wish for your success !
This dude does incredible well-researched, well-narrated documentaries with quality on par with the History Channel, sat down with the former CEO for an interview, researches several abandoned locations firsthand, and has less than a million subs? Where is the fairness in the world?
Atari went bankrupt in the 90s. The rights were scooped up by Infogrames, who proceeded to run the name into the ground. They then declared bankruptcy in 2014, sold the name rights again, and the current investors have ruined it even further.
First, it's abandoned small shops. Then, entire abandoned malls & warehouses. And now, and entire _boat??_ I can't wait for his series on abandoned spaceships!
Having the found and former CEO speak was very cool! Great to her directly from his experience. Hopefully that can happen again during the next episode of bankrupt.
Jake your videos are great. unsolicated advice for you interview episodes: If you are going to be cutting back to you in the interview you should probably also include yourself asking the questions too. It looks more like a conversation that way. also if the person you are interviewing is on a webcam, try and match their camera angle so it looks like you are talking to them, rather than just saying "yeah" into a void. I think it will improve the quality of these episodes greatly. Other than that, fantastic content as always!
I think the cut scenes should be completely eliminated when using obvious webcam footage. These cuts made the video come across as really cheesy in my opinion. I stopped watching at two and half minutes in because I could no long take the video seriously. Tevor Jones may well be correct and I'm missing out on great videos but my own personal quirks made me leave the channel after seeing these cut back scenes.
It’s incredible to see how much you’ve grown, I’ve been around since the bright sun gaming days and am incredibly proud of your success! Keep making awesome videos jake!
Thank you! It was beyond a pleasure speaking with Bruce and his stories were incredible to hear. Such a fascinating, kind man who really is an industry legend.
This video is absolutely incredible. The fact you were able to reach out to a primary source, one of the few men behind the company himself, is truly amazing. Your dedication to your videos is fantastic!
How does this man still have less than 1 million subscribers?! This is netflix documentary level good, possible even better! Keep making vids man, you've got a real talent.
Jake, you're amazing. You are producing television quality documentaries and, as a viewer, I massively appreciate the effort you clearly put in. Honestly, man - keep up the good work!
Thank you for doing this. I actually cruised on the Premier Starship Majestic in 1990 after graduating high school. It did have the Disney characters on board with us. It also stopped at the Abaco islands, a place where cruises no longer go. I found out last year that she had sank in 2016 and it was heartbreaking.. like some of my memories are now at the bottom of the ocean. This meant a lot to me and I appreciate the work you put into it.🚢
I guess I'm old too. I graduated high school in 1989. If someone wants to pick on me for being an older woman, go ahead. I don't care what someone with poor taste thinks. Us "old girls" are like a bottle of wine. We get better with time! Thank you for your input HorrorQueen. That's cool you got to go on one of these.
Hey man, thank you so much for this. My dad sailed on the Atlantic on her first voyage under the Premier Cruise Line. I've been obsessed with trying to find out more about this boat because it's like seeing a place my dad has been, and almost being there with him. I miss him so much and this was so nice to know. ALSO - we rode on The Big Red Boat (The Oceanic) when I was 11 - and let me tell you... those age group thingies? Pretty rad. They did a great job keeping us busy so we didn't bug our parents. It still - to this date - is the happiest memory I have of my family before my brother died and our family fell apart. I dunno... this was just.. nice. It was nice and made me happy-cry with all the good memories I had on that trip.
Thank you for producing this! I remember when they first began sending Walt Disney World characters on PCL cruises in 1986. In the early days of that program, Premier treated the characters like VIPs! At first we just went on either a four-day or five-day cruise on a rotating basis, then they started sending us for a week on two cruises in a row, four characters per ship. We got proper passenger rooms, not crew cabins, we got to eat the same meals as the guests for free, we got 50% off drinks, and we only worked about 20 hours in 8 days. It was like a paid vacation! I went on the Royale in 1984 for my high school class trip, then four times between 1986-1989 for Disney on the Royale, Oceanic, Atlantic and Majestic. I saw one of the Bid Red Boats in a scrapyard on a trip to Freeport in 2003 - made me sad.
Rob Plays recently did a video focusing on Disney's end of their relationship--it's interesting to see Premier's side too. Sounds like Premier basically invented the business model that Disney is currently making bank on.
I dont think they went bankrupt, they were bought by Chrysler in order to get Jeep and they scrapped the rest. Although they got a large cache of Jeep engineers in the deal that were the cream of the crop.
Gotta love how this major corporation had _two_ ships named The Big Red Boat. Also, could you do a Bankrupt episode on Arrow Dynamics? I would love to see it.
In the 1990's, I worked for Dowell-Schlumberger. As a project envoy, I travelled to many locales in the arctic and near arctic. After leaving one sight in Alaska, and travelling to Abu Dhabi, I saw the company ship, at both locations! I soon, discovered that they operated seven ships, named "The Big Orange".
No drama, great facts, good choice of background music, clean narrating. You really have no idea how many times I rewatched your Bankrupt videos, especially the Pan Am and TWA ones...
It’s really mindboggling how a channel this outstandning only has 500k subs. If I’d get to decide you would have ten times that. I am seriously hooked, it is very rare that I can watch this many videos of one creator at a time. It truly shows how well put together your content is. I love how you show such a wide variety of footage while’st researching and retelling the history so well. You have definitely deserved a new subscriber and I hope you get millions more. Cheers!
I enjoy reading and watching historical and just more modern history, but usually the only ones on UA-cam are low quality and lack actual facts or taking known information and reading word for word from another video. The only good quality ones are one that belong too actual companies that produce it professionally and publish it on tv and youtube. Yours feels like I’m actually watching a good quality history channel, very well done and you certainly have a knack for keeping my attention and your execution of telling a bankrupt companies story. Well done, thank you. You’ve cured my boredom.
I am a child of the 80s and Premier Cruise Lines was a lot of fun. My parents and I sailed on the Oceanic in 1985, we had so much fun on that cruise. Thanks for the memories, Jake, keep up the amazing work!
Having worked for Disney (film distrbution), I believe the Disney/Premier partnership was doomed to end. Disney likes full control and used the Premier partnership to test the waters of entering the expanding cruising business. That business is very capital intensive (ships) and ships require heavy maintenance--more than hotels or even some theme parks. Once Disney realized they could make money by using their world recognized name, going it alone in the cruise business was a given. However, the Premier partnership, as limited as it was, set Disney up to do their own thing. Also, I went on one of those Premier/Disney cruises, as well as the old Chandris and Dolphin lines. As with many things, only the biggest survive and to survive requires both innovation and expansion.
Yeah, pretty normal with Disney. look at their streaming offering they're doing now and dropping Netflix. They like to control all their distribution channels and marketing, as they feel they can make more money that way.
This is true but as a consumer I won't complain this. DCL's product at sea is as luxurious as what Celebrity offers but with the added family/Disney aspect of it. Premier using older ships just wouldn't be able to deliver what DCL delivers today. I mean one of the last ships they bought was the old Rotterdam and she was already 40 years old at the time Premier acquired her. That's not a ship that could fit modern entertainment needs. Disney was right to break the relationship once it was clear that Premier wasn't going to build new ships.
I went on The Big Red Boat in 1996 when I was in my teens. We took the Oceanic and went to Disney World afterwards. It was a lot of fun, and, even if it wasn't "the fanciest," it was still really fancy to me. It was certainly was quite the experience. Funnily enough, our Big Red Boat shirts were outdated only two years later. And it was frustrating to see the Disney cruise line open so soon afterwards. We wish we had waited, but we had no idea. Thanks for the great video!
Nice. Here is an idea for your next Bankrupt episode. Do the 4Kids TV company (an entertainment company that was popular for English dubbing anime shows, including Pokémon (The first 8 seasons), YuGiOh!, Sonic X, One Piece, etc). It defuncted last year I heard.
Consider that 4Kids has been discussed a lot on UA-cam especially, and that it doesn't necessarily have a story/dirty laundry behind how it went down. I'd rather see these resources put into a big company that's rarely been discussed on UA-cam.
I have only taken one cruise so far in my life and it was a Big Red Boat. I still have my BRB cup, and a few other things. It's weird to think I went on the journey a year before Disney Cruise Line started and it was at the end of the Big Red Boat and Premier!
My first cruise was on the ms Rembrandt in 1999 on the Mediterranean sea. Since than a lot of cruises have followed. But I still have good memories of that first cruise. P.S. Not all ships were sold and scrapped after the bankruptcy. The Rembrandt got back its original name MS Rotterdan, and it is now a static in the harbour of Rotterdam where it is a hotel, restaurant, eventship and museum
My family did the whole, "4-day Disney World / 3-day cruise to Nassau" in April 1992.... sailed out of Port Canaveral onboard the Carnival "Carnivale" ship. It was my very first cruise, and I've been in love with cruising ever since. Good times!
And, we also sailed in June 1998 on a 7-night New England/Canada cruise out of NYC on SeaBreeze I @ 16:36 ... which I now know was a Premier Cruise Line ship. GREAT video.
I always found the ad for the Big Red Boat @ 8:57 was really weird. The family on a farm(?) is celebrating the fact that this massive CGI CastleBoat is coming towards them through a magic CGI ocean (that probably appeared literally seconds before), and is about to crash into them, and their farm, thus destroying all they love. .... Or maybe I'm just thinking too much about this.
Beccki Green Not sure how that relates, I mean honestly I was more drawing inspiration from Majora's Mask with the comment I made. Just watching the ad while thinking of the moon crashing scene made me laugh.
I actually sailed on a Premier Cruise in 1989, did 3 nights in Bahamas and 4 in Disney... was a fun trip! Ship was a bit old but clean. I was very surprised to see this video pop up. Thanks for the memories! :)
Thank You Jake! This is the type of documentaries I really like, involving research, reporting, interviews and your commentary! But much more interesting than wandering around some old buildings...
I went on the Oceanic with the WB characters as a kid! They had stars on the doors which let us know where we couldn't go in the kids program. It was pretty amazing and we did a scavenger hunt too. I remember eating a pb&j under the sliding pool roof. Great memories!
I survived Premiere Cruise Lines and getting screwed out of visiting Treasure Key ("engine problems" they said). Instead we wasted time in Nassau and Blue Lagoon Island. ...but hey! Disney World (circa 1991 back when all those Abandoned and Defunctland episode subjects were actually STILL open) was fricken awesome.
It was usually weather problems that prevented getting to "Treasure Cay". If it was too rough or windy the ship would blow around and run aground because the channel into Treasure Cay was so narrow and shallow.
My family went on a Big Red Boat cruise in the mid-90s. I don't remember the date but Warner characters were on board. I had a great time. My kids had a great time. Wonderful memories of the ship and staff. Went on an MSC cruise last year. I loved that as well. Mostly European passengers and not too many stupid and ill mannered Americans. BTW, I'm as American as apple pie.
Amazing video; well-structured and thoroughly interesting. I like the personal touch you bring with the guests, really adds value. You got a great format with your different series, keep it up! :)
What a trip down Memory Lane. I was a Dive Instructor/Life Guard at Premier. My wife was a Youth Counselor. We both loved and now miss our time on the ships.
I remember accidentally finding this channel while searching on UA-cam. I now love this channel so much and find it so much more interesting than Buzzfeed Unsolved. Keep up the good work!! ❤️
Its sad to see a trend investors seem to have. Yes, they want to make money, but they often screw themselves over along with the original company when they aren’t willing to invest in not only the companies, but the faces and CEOs that keep the company’s reputation and spirit alive.
Thank you for this imformation. It shall not be forgotten. I to like cruise ships. Premier will be remembered for who started family fun cruise lines. Well done Jake, as alway's.👍🕊
Thanks for this posting. My wife and I are enthusiastic cruisers and we had the opportunity to sail on Premier’s last ship about 3/4 months before they filed Chapter VII. The cruise originated in Aruba and sailed the southern Caribbean. It was built for 750 passengers but had only 350 aboard our cruise. The service was spectacular since there was also 350 crew members aboard. The passengers were mostly Brazilian and they were the most fun people ever. The ship was “tired” of course but we didn’t mind. It was a great cruise but we weren’t surprised when they folded.
Honestly, the fact that Dial didn't try to sell Premier to Disney is such a mindbogglingly massive missed opportunity. Everyone could've profited it. Bruce and Bjørnar had such a great startup strategy for the company, but the higher ups at Dial seemed more interested in milking the cruise line for short term profits than to invest in any sort of future sustainability. A shame, considering the goldmine it could've been.
What a excellent video! Brought me back to when I was 12 years old. My first ever cruise was with Premier back in March '89. Huge fan of the "Bankrupt" series.
Simple. A whole major city based on one industry. Packard closed the ginormous plant in 1955 or so. Building was abandoned. Still a huge eyesore. THAT should have been your clue, if you lived there, to SELL and MOVE. Then, spoiled and way overpaid UAW workers purposely effed up cars and the Japanese were making way better cars that were more reliable and able to not use so much gas. GM closure in Flint, MI in the 1980's was in "Roger and Me," a doc. Filmmaker wanted him accountable for the plant closing in their best year. Basically to take all the money to Mexico where there's fewer problems with workers, I believe it was. See? There ya go :)
The only thing that disappoints me is there are only two videos in this series, because this is super entertaining and super informative. More videos, please.

I used to work for Premier Cruise lines in the Youth Dept. I was on the SS oceanic. It was great to watch this, brings bags some great memories.
I watched all these previously. I have started going through them again since they are so interesting and well done!
Linksbro I agree, something that large coming towards me would scare me to death.
I'd be terrified if I saw something that large coming towards me like that. 😱
Yes, normal CGI back then looks scary today.
Linksbro You’re a Brony, so your of course you thought this.
Beccki Green Not sure how that relates, I mean honestly I was more drawing inspiration from Majora's Mask with the comment I made. Just watching the ad while thinking of the moon crashing scene made me laugh.
We’ve been waiting so long for this. I’m so glad it’s finally here. Also probably the best intro for a show you’ve ever done.
I love the interview in this and how you edited the history documentary around it. Very well done! You keep getting better and better!
I normally find your videos interesting but considering I'm a travel agent who does mostly cruises, this was great
You have TWA in your intro, you MUST do a TWA Bankrupt video! Their story must be told!!
James yesss
I actually sailed on a Premier Cruise in 1989, did 3 nights in Bahamas and 4 in Disney... was a fun trip! Ship was a bit old but clean. I was very surprised to see this video pop up. Thanks for the memories! :)
Another fantastic video from Jake! Keep up the great content, man!
Thank you!
Thank You Jake! This is the type of documentaries I really like, involving research, reporting, interviews and your commentary! But much more interesting than wandering around some old buildings...
Thank you!
Dude - Look forward to your educational videos! Thank you!
i only stumbled on your stuff last few days but i some how saw your first abandonned in the series... u have come A LONG WAY YOUNG MAN
That intro is awesome! Makes this series feel like a TV episode :)
One of your best Videos - Getting the old CEO to sit down and talk with your is fantastic
Never clicked out of another UA-cam video so fast before 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
same lol
I had nothing to click off of :/ Wasn't watching anything at least this video came up to watch :D
Can’t even explain how much I love this channel
Ah my favorite time of the week! When i get to see one of these videos
One of the best indie documentary channels on YT.
Bankrupt-TWA Please really like to see.
Another lovely, ultra quality video. Can’t get enough of this mate, keep on making them, they’re always wonderful.
Thank you!
Well done overview of a sad cruise story! Great to get Bruce's input!
Amazing video; well-structured and thoroughly interesting. I like the personal touch you bring with the guests, really adds value. You got a great format with your different series, keep it up! :)
Thank you!
What a trip down Memory Lane. I was a Dive Instructor/Life Guard at Premier. My wife was a Youth Counselor. We both loved and now miss our time on the ships.
10/10 intro. I hope you do stuff like that more
I remember accidentally finding this channel while searching on UA-cam.
The Effort that goes to making these videos is amazing! Good job Jake
PENN CENTRAL BANKRUPT EPISODE PLEASE!
Great video by the way
That was a spectacular bankruptcy. Two desperate companies got married and couldn't make the relationship work.
Another great video, it’s impressive that you are able to interview someone who was a part of the company.
He sold his share at the right time! I bet he’s still a rich man now.
Makes sense. Why keep investing with someone that does not share your vision.
Fantastic work brother !!!!!! Love the new intro thank you for telling the whole story on this cruise line you did it a great justice!!!
I went on 4 of them!! Oceanic and Majestic :)
Lucky you.
Thank you Jake. This was an amazing short history of Pan Am. I saw myself in one of the last pictures! We truly were and are a family! Thank you!!

Please bring this show back!! I love your work!
I have a idea for you there was a mall called EASTLAND Mall in charlotte NC and it closed could you do a vid on it?
I used to go to Eastland Mall all the time. It truly was a wonderful mall and a highlight of Charlotte North Carolina.
I remember that place!!
Eastland went west.... or should that be south?
I would love to see behind the scenes. Like how he gets ideas, the interviews, the research, and so on. That would be very interesting.
Been waiting for this since you made the video on Treasure Cay.
Only 1 mid-roll ad!
Good honest man
Me "I have to get up at 5.30 tomorrow"

I used to work for Celebrity Cruises in 1999 and I heard about Premier Cruise line that went out of business and now I know the story. Thank you.
Can you please do a bankrupt video on Detroit. Like how it happened, what led up to it, and what it caused
Love all your productions, Jake! Especially this one! Keep up the good work! 👍👍👍
Thank you!
*_HAPPY FRIIIDAY!_*
It's happy gnome day! *DAB*
The only thing that disappoints me is there are only two videos in this series, because this is super entertaining and super informative. More videos, please.
More is coming
