Allan was one tough man, well repsected! And obviously strong as a bull!
Steve Zetolofsky was a great man. I trained at his gym at Crystal Palace (21st Century Gym) in the early 90’s. Pete Tancred was my PE Teacher, too. These were great days with great characters!
A lot of older guys I know who trained out of Crystal Palace in the 80s all mention Steve Zetolofky as a great lifter and also a good man. One of the early top notch powerlifters in the uk
My dad owned 21st Century Gym in partnership with Steve 🤩
He did?? What was his name??
@@Cransridge2288that must have been a fun time??
Ray Nobile a good friend who lives in Bulgaria now. A great strongman in multiple sports
he used to be a fireman in hamilton, scotland.....good bloke
This is the first time I’ve seen this video.
Brilliant.
went to ray and John’s gym. Best gym ever.
Steve zetolofsky is the spitting image of rocky marciano
Crossley wa good in his day, good.
Nice piece of British strength history
Peter Tancred, a P.E. Teacher at my old school.
Mike Brown trained me , i was there too in the scene with the supporters waving the signs, i was the young boy in the sun glasses
This must be the inspiration for Alan Partridge. The dude with the combe over lol
Great post !
Mike Brown, great man 👍
I have trained with Alan, he got stronger and stronger, a great character, done a lot of doorman activity, hope he is ok nowdays!!
Great win by Allan Crossley, him jumping in the wagon at the end was hilarious. Too bad Richard Slaney and Geoff Capes did not compete that year.
That strongman has the most intense comb-over I've ever seen. How could people actually think that looked good?
you either understand style or you dont.
he was getting 5 shags a night back then, apparently..
Bobby charlton liked it!
@@MrPhilcoolio lmao
Well i like it.😬👏😭
Enjoyed this vid,,rip Alan Crossley 🙏..glad to see the log lift has evolved, jesus sum ov them lifts looked dangerous as fuck..and weights gone from 220lbs to nowadays record is about 220kg 💪
Moustache, golf shoes and comb over
How times have changed
alan crossley - doorman and friend of lenny mclean..
My grandad Tony Oliver used to do doors with him. Many stories from the gritty club scenes. He used to come round to see my grandad when I was six and talk about Jesus
@@tonyoliver2167 alan mentions your grandad in the video here on youtube- HARDMAN......i also seen a pic of your grandad and lenny mcclean in mccleans book THE GUVNOR.......he looked awesome......hard as nails, same as mcclean
John Craven stood back and let the boys have a chance, we know john could tear 3 yellow pages in half with his left hand only
It was the roids that brought the animal out in Craven...He had to quit when he started raving and swearing on the Newsround programme and go into detox and give up his strongman activities for mental health reasons
2:31 "I'm going to give him a 50/50 chance to get in the first 4"
I can almost hear his math teacher shouting at the television screen.
Haha didnt expect to see a comment from you on here when i watched this video lol small world Mark
@@basilfawlty4647: hello mark, in deed it is.
Hilarious how they lifted logs back then without any handles!! haha. They had handles at the WSM back in the US in 1980-1982. Why did they not craft logs in Britain in 1984 with handles? So awkward.
Yep, learning proces:-)
1:36 never knew Gordon strachan was a strongman
Where is the the family of Alain Crossley who wanted to send DVD's (he removed the message) !
You watch this and you realise how obvious it is that today’s athletes are all on roids.
This is what normal Northern European bodies look like
Why didn't Geoff compete in 1984? He was still an active strongman at that time?
He was pregnant and expecting 8 baby budgies.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 stupid comment. How do you know how many budgies he was expecting if he hadnt had them yet?
@@rleriche5044 I read it in last month's edition of Gardeners weekly.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 I'll check it out, thanks.
Too many other shows going on. Worlds, highland games circuit, Europes Strongest Man etc.
Peter tankereds hair, I cannot believe he went on national tv with that monstrosity on top of his head, one gust of wind and we get real view of his left handed fringe.
