Try dasp after it gets its buff from the ptb (675 hp and cd reduction on heavy bite). Bone snap will be nerfed to 10 s max anyway so definitely try a non bb build
3:31 the ragdoll when you bit it XD I love when they do that, it actually looks realistic imo like you're biting their neck and snapping it or something lol looks so cool
I’d like to see pycno get a quick turn/repositioning ability at some point like what Mira and kentro got recently, though maybe only turning you to the left or right to keep the identity of it being speedy but a little unwieldy. IMO I think it’s turning is it’s biggest downside, because it drastically exacerbate’s it’s second notable weakness in it’s squishiness; you’re far more likely to misjudge your ability to evade an attack, and can even get body blocked or stuck on terrain by positioning yourself poorly. - I think spending some stamina to quickly reposition yourself is fairly balanced for a dinosaur that needs to manage stamina wisely; efficient play is rewarded with getting the most out of pycno’s endurance, but a misstep or greedy attack is less likely to be utterly DEVASTATING in a long fight.
This is such a good video on how to fight with pycno! These little changes work so well. Pycno is honestly super good at controlling fights because it's a fast dino that has more bulk than the mid tiers. I always thought horn swipe was bad because of the stamina cost, but I'll probably give it a try now. Would love to see more of these on multiple different dinos in the future!
Great video Khan 🤲 Pycno’s apex level fall damage doesn’t seem on par with similar sized dinos. A group of Pycnos used to be a genuinely scary thing to come across. Now not so much - but a good Pycno player definitely shines in a fight.
Agreed, what is up with that fall damage?? And yes, it’s definitely not a forgiving Dino to play when you make mistakes, but once I cleaned up my game I was able to take on a lot more than I ever thought I would as Pycno. I’d honestly say a good pycno rivals achillo/cerato for usefulness (the latter obviously being easier to learn than pycno though)
@@Khanware You handled that group perfectly. Seeing your success makes me want to bring mine out. His excellent stamina will be very useful for my multiple runs back home when I get clapped 🤣
All the mid tier carnivores and most herbis too take the same amount of fall damage. The only tier 3 I don't see taking as much fall damage is miragaia lol that thing has a little more fall damage resistance than the other tier 3s which is weird
Tbh I have seen good pycno players, but they’re once in a blue moon. Most of em just spam hornswipe and die/run within 10 seconds whether or not they’re solo or grouped. Tbh maybe the reason I don’t see the good pycnos is because I don’t chase like that sty did, so maybe I gotta force myself to actually copy a mega packer to see pycnos like you. Excellent video bro, really good showcase like the achillo build. Though I’d like to say one thing, after seeing the achillo guide, I actually swapped my carni main from allo to achillo. I’ve found that reg bite is actually really good (I’m aware it’s getting nerfed in the ptb). Raptor strikes didn’t feel on par with bite at all, and actually had slower kills compared to bite in almost all fights. The achillo build is still really good for survival and pretty strong at combat, but in my opinion (and the opinion of several people I asked), reg bite would make it better. Just something I thought I’d say because you really put effort in these vids, and I wanted to share my experience
Thanks for sharing! Yeah I agree about the average pycno player lol. It's very punishing if you misplay and most people do simply because it's got a trickier kit to find success with than other dinos around its size. But a good pycno can actually be quite devastating to play against. I am curious about your default bite achillo. I still find it better to use raptor strikes because raptor strikes beats default bite achillo. In terms of hit and running, default bite is slightly better than claw attack, but only slightly. My thinking is, if you're going to be hit and running, you might as well just use claw attack because you won't be sticking around long enough to use both claw attack and default bite one after another (you'll most likely get hit if you do). And then with that, might as well run raptor strikes over default bite because it's helpful against other mid tiers. So I haven't ever really found the need for or felt like I was lacking the use of default bite in any way really.
@@Khanware Raptor strikes has the downsides of being a barrage attack, which means a good player will wait out your stack to out trade you. Even if you hit them with claw attack, they can just hit you 2 or 3 with a bite/headbutt of their own and still deal more damage. I’ve died using raptor strikes twice, once to a cera (which default bite + claw attack annihilates) and a kentro (though in fairness I turned my brain off on the kentro fight). I also got pummeled by a hatz and almost died with raptor strikes. Now in fairness, I was able to beat another hatz using raptor strikes, but I literally only got one hit with raptor strikes, which did like 5 dmg (claw attack was the only reason I won). I was able to narrowly kill a pycno too, but I almost died in the face tank and I know for a fact that using bite would have ended the fight with more health for me. On the contrary, I’ve killed Concs, pycnos (how fitting :p), megs, miras, kentros, and so many ceras that I genuinely see them as free food with achillo default bite. By ducking in and out in 1 second intervals, you can output a really good damage output while keeping yourself relatively safe. Tbf I use lone hunter + bark out of personal preference, so the 18% damage buff really helps (bite deals 70 dmg and claw attack does 82, it’s so goated). But yea that’s how I’ve experienced default bite vs raptor strikes. Also if you want I can give you the names three of the UA-camrs who vouched for default bite.
@@liuron6694 Well to each their own! And a few comments about raptor strikes... To your piece about a good player will wait out barrage abilities: Yes, on slower dinos like sucho, sure, but on achillo you can catch pretty much run down everything you should be barraging, and you can claw attack everything else. You shouldn't ever be face tanking a pycno on achillo cause it's a higher weight class by a good bit, so that's not really a fair assessment of raptor strikes. It really depends on your play style. I play around running raptor strikes/the kit I presented and I make great use of it. I find myself wanting raptor strikes far more often than default bite in most scenarios. But I am known for more niche builds that require different play styles to get full value out of. If default works for you, don't change it on my account, keep using it!

Great video, got any additional advice for 1v1s? The biggest issue I have is that I struggle to find openings to get charges in without trading, and any trade with pycno is never in its favor, especially since I tend to play solo so my opponent's attention is always on me.
I'd say it really depends on what you are fighting against on pycno. Some dinos are very hard to get openings on when you're solo no matter what dino you're playing. If it's something small and fast that you're having trouble getting openings on, I'd recommend playing like I did against that sty at the end of the video (take space and charge when you have openings. If you trade a good length charge with a hit, you should be dealing more damage overall). If you're up against a large opponent like a rex, try to get close (not close enough to be hit but close enough to close distance quickly) and try to bait out it's attacks (bites/tail attacks/stomps) by feinting like you're going in to attack. There are small windows where you can actually run in and land an attack in between each of those abilities. Stay mobile as well, it'll help you accelerate faster. I usually walk and sprint in bursts when trying to bait out attacks from larger dinos. Obviously timings change from dino to dino and attack to attack, but I hope this helps some
Half the time people say Pycnonemosaurus is in a really bad spot, they just treat it like Dasp or Allo. Pycno requires a good bit of game knowledge (which you have, well played against the mega pack!) to execute its hit and run playstyle. It isnt built for trades like Allo, or brawls like Dasp. Pycno is really good when played like Pycno, not anything else. As a Pycno player myself, i enjoy it a lot! The Charge is def the best ability, but baiting it can be tough. Pycno is best in groups, but a solo Pycno is by no means bad. Love my little frog boy.
Thank you for proving that my boy Pycno is viable on Officials! The only thing I think needs changed for Pycno is how much fall damage it takes. You can fall from a 2 foot tall ledge and lose a quarter of your health. And when you need to escape, taking obscene levels of fall damage doesn't help you.
I've recently swapped to the +knockback pycno subspecies to test if the extra breathing room from the boosted charge knock-back outweighs that little 3% bit of extra damage from attack sub.
I actually think the attack sub is the worst one. I personally use stamina regen because I love builds that promote longevity in fights, but I also think the knockback sub is quite good. Never hurts to have a little extra breathing room like you said!
@@afrosamurai3847 I feel ya! I hate that we have to choose between cosmetics and performance :( my achillo looks terrible cause it’s the accel build. Can’t we just have both??
Pycno out speeds achillo and pachy so they aren’t much of a threat (especially with pachy’s stamina nerf), and alio is squishier than pycno so it isn’t hard to kill a few of them if they decide to attack
Did they take away abilities since this video was released? I just restarted playing this game and i have an adult Pycno but no where can i find tail attack and they other ability that you have with the teeth. Please help. TIA
Yes sadly, last patch Alderon pulled a classic Alderon and removed abilities, leaving its tail slot and voice slot empty. It should still perform similarly overall stat wise, but removing its tail attack is a big nerf. I’m sure this means Alderon plans to give Pycno an ability tlc down the road, but they always remove abilities months before adding new ones and I can never figure out why they do it this way
I've got nearly 150 hours into pyc stopped playing after the charge nerf; having to change my play style burn way more Stam and having to fight packs of small dinos much differently just changed how it felt to play it. Give back the tap charge or buff it
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve always loved Carnos/pycnos in every Dino game and I’ve really struggled in PoT using it. Forgive me but I must have missed if you said you decided to get in the leg slot for it. You mentioned the horrible turn radius so I can see you using the increased turning, but I can also see the running stam reduction to better increase the hit and run play style. Do you have any recommendations?
I actually did not specify, I avoided giving a recommended build in this video but I'm happy to give recommendations! I personally use long distance runner. Having extremely good sprint stamina is part of why pycno excels in its niche. The turn abilities (including balanced tail) only give 5%, so it isn't very much and not super worth it on a dino that already has poor turning imo. I tend to run kits that favor survivability/longevity because I often find myself far outnumbered in fights, so I love ldr on pycno (I also use stamina regen sub as well)
I haven't watched the full video yet but my thing with pycno is this: pycno is still good, despite people's main complaints being the charge changes, because, lets think about it this way: Does pycno NEED to use max charge damage to be balanced or strong enough to fight other things? Not exactly. From my experience on the pvp servers lately, pycno can still fight most things its size as long as you don't make too many mistakes if you charge from a relatively safe distance but don't tap charge. You won't get max damage but you'll still get a pretty good amount. And if the player isnt super super good, you can even try tail kiting or getting some bites in as well without getting punished too badly which can do some good damage as well before charge is ready. I wanna make another pycno video at some point showing further my point on pycno not being as weak as people say, but that's my thoughts on it for now lol.
Never knew you should stack bulldozer i mainly play pycno to annoy people as it’s very squishy and I’m not that good at pvp one thing I really don’t like is the fact pycno losses like 30% of its health from a 2 foot fall I take less fall damage on allo which is bigger
If u ask me the big kb rk should become a slam slowing opponent stacks twice. With 10 sec cd . Uses bit of stam that way pyc can beco e reluable hit n runner
It got an HP buff a few patches ago. It got a damage reflection nerf recently (not a big deal, damage reflection was decreased for other dinos too). I think people are underestimating pycno!
Fighting apexes on pyc solo is tricky. You mostly have to bait out attacks to get openings. It’s a lot easier if you have a pycno buddy to create openings for you
@@Scot-land Depends on your play style (big, small, fast, slow, etc). If you’re new, speed will be easiest starting out. Many large groups of players play this game, so being able to run away and escape them is crucial. Things like pachy, achillo, and cerato are small but still fast and can pack a punch. Pycno just got a big tlc (and buffs) so it might actually be a good starter choice now too!
So pycno is one of those playables that requires a good amount of skill and understanding or itself and its opponents to be effective. Most I see try playing like Allo
@@Khanware I'm convinced that the devs hate Pycno. That's why its weight is only 3300 even though it was speculated to weigh more than Dasp and Allo irl 😢
@@dillonwhisenant2153 I do! Its actually more in depth than this one and covers build as well. It’s on my channel about 10ish videos back, or you can just search my name and achillo
If a pycno bite does 45 damage tail does 20 and charge does 80 my favorite combo 3%+ damage attack species and 10% attack damage gives you 10% attack damage so your bite goes up to 55 damage your tail does 30 or if it’s already 30 it now does 40 damage and the charge does 90.6 or 90.2 damage And if you go off my sisters thing then you get 13% extra damage so bite is now 58, tail is 33 or 43 if it already does 30 damage and charge does 93 damage that’s more than a Rex bite when it’s in a group so yeah pycno is amazing especially all the damage buffs.
Well in terms of raw numbers yes, but you aren't factoring weight class or armor of your opponent. Rex hits so hard because its weight class is so high. Comparing pycno and rex raw damage numbers makes the outcome look misleading cause pycno doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as rex. The damage formula in this game is quite complicated and confusing lol
@@Bavy-r6z No, that was patched a while ago. Apparently it wasn’t intended. Officially, ano can’t be knocked out of hunker by anything anymore. There is currently a bug where you “push” ano out of hunker on larger dinos (like sucho) by holding precise move and physically walking into the hunkered ano

@@mingagaminggamerfreunde That I am unsure of, but I know you can on pc (that’s often how I pull my stats). I think you can on console as well but I’m not sure what the button to bring it up is on console
Officials is definitely not for everyone. Lengthy growing is part of the experience. You can get a dino from baby to adult in 3 to 4 hours though if you're efficient! Definitely can be annoying though
@@Khanware weak to leg dmg and no stomp, struthi and phycno are both hit and run fighters, and a HaR fighters biggest weakness is a smaller faster HaR fighter. This is why small raptors are not a good match up for struthi, and struthi is not a good match up for pyncno.
I’ve had no issues killing any Struth bold enough to stick around for the fight, never had an issue. With tail attack/bite you have decent coverage, just need to precise move a little bit. But to each their own
dont be deceived by the health “buff” it was once already 550 at one point and got nerfed to 450. And yea they nerfed gripping claws when only like 3 dinos have it? doesnt make sense, plus the charge nerf messed up pycno the MOST because it makes it way more difficult take advantage of larger dinos cooldown timers. And the dumbest thing about pycno is u can have a THIRD of your max stamina left and charge will be disabled further making the charge nerf negatively effect pycno.
@Khanware Yep, and i know youtube video doesn't reflect reality. Show the best part and say "play like that and it's fine". Still, good video and valid tips but reality is way more brutal for a solo Pycno especially for a beginner lol
@@Rafale01 Well yeah, the whole point of my video is to showcase how to play things well/how to get better. Also, the video reflects my reality. Did I die a few times figuring out pycno? Sure. Who doesn't. Does my video set a false narrative about what people can achieve with pycno? No, it's totally achievable to play pycno like I showcase. I walk away from 95% of my fights with multiple kills/staying alive. I also state that pycno is not a good beginner dino in the video, and I stand by that. It is one of the more challenging dinos to play. Saying pycno is trash tier inherently isn't true. Also saying things like the only way to survive is charge/eat ai is also inherently untrue. That's the whole point of this video - so people stop doing things like that and actually learn to play the dino
It’s not trash in the way your describing it’s just that Pycno takes a ton of skill to be effective now, just like how the video doesn’t reflect reality you’re description only reflects you fighting people who don’t know how to play Pycno, if you actually bothered watching properly you’d see that Pycno is good just has a high skill cap compared to the playables you listed that you used to kill Pycno

Oh I know lol, it has rex fall damage for no reason at all
@@Khanware I know! It's bonkers
@@KhanwareAttack sub is definitely the worst but I gotta have the biggest horns.
@@afrosamurai3847 I feel ya! I hate that we have to choose between cosmetics and performance :( my achillo looks terrible cause it’s the accel build. Can’t we just have both??
For me pycno is just a bigger version of those small annoying dinos like thal struthi campto laten and deinon
It certainly has similar sprint stamina drain, but it's able to hit pretty hard as well
@@Khanware yea it definitely can pack a punch but I just attack people than make them chase me around just to annoy them
It's time for a new Pycno vidoe!!!!!
@@PrattBjj Working in Iggy rn, updated pycno video is next after
I haven’t play pycno in so long cause of achillos, pachys update and alios.
I’m sure this means Alderon plans to give Pycno an ability tlc down the road, but they always remove abilities months before adding new ones and I can never figure out why they do it this way
Do deinocheirus next pls
I've got nearly 150 hours into pyc stopped playing after the charge nerf; having to change my play style burn way more Stam and having to fight packs of small dinos much differently just changed how it felt to play it. Give back the tap charge or buff it
Tap charging was very strong. But yeah, you have to play much more reserved now and watch for perfect openings before using charge
Just encountered the same mira and that same eo in the beginning today
i died seeing that eo run off that cliff
I tend to run kits that favor survivability/longevity because I often find myself far outnumbered in fights, so I love ldr on pycno (I also use stamina regen sub as well)
@@Khanware thank you very much! I really appreciate you and your amazing content! Keep up the awesome work and I can’t wait for more Dinos!
you forgot to put the sarcosuchus like a dangerous dino for the pyc
Me and my brother was playing pycno and we fought a rex and we did get close to killing it with the charge
Nice, yeah you definitely can kill apexes with 2 pycnos, you just gotta be careful
I haven't watched the full video yet but my thing with pycno is this:
pycno is still good, despite people's main complaints being the charge changes, because, lets think about it this way: Does pycno NEED to use max charge damage to be balanced or strong enough to fight other things? Not exactly. From my experience on the pvp servers lately, pycno can still fight most things its size as long as you don't make too many mistakes if you charge from a relatively safe distance but don't tap charge. You won't get max damage but you'll still get a pretty good amount. And if the player isnt super super good, you can even try tail kiting or getting some bites in as well without getting punished too badly which can do some good damage as well before charge is ready. I wanna make another pycno video at some point showing further my point on pycno not being as weak as people say, but that's my thoughts on it for now lol.
i like pycno still but man it need a hide i can sacrifcie reflect for one and perhaps give it a new head atk like a slam
I wonder if pycno will get a TLC since his skill menu was changed in the last update
I really hope!
Never knew you should stack bulldozer i mainly play pycno to annoy people as it’s very squishy and I’m not that good at pvp one thing I really don’t like is the fact pycno losses like 30% of its health from a 2 foot fall I take less fall damage on allo which is bigger
Yeah the fall damage is quite scuffed lol, it definitely needs to be more on par with things around its size
@@Khanware yea it's a pycno not a rex
If u ask me the big kb rk should become a slam slowing opponent stacks twice. With 10 sec cd . Uses bit of stam that way pyc can beco e reluable hit n runner
When did it get its hp back??? he used to be my main b4 hp nerf :D
Did it get any other changes recently?
It got an HP buff a few patches ago. It got a damage reflection nerf recently (not a big deal, damage reflection was decreased for other dinos too). I think people are underestimating pycno!
@@Khanware i used to kill allos with it all the time :D tysm for the info m8😃
Pycno is good but unlike other dinosaurs its HORRIFIC against apexes, which makes it alot less fun to play since what u can fight is limited
Fighting apexes on pyc solo is tricky. You mostly have to bait out attacks to get openings. It’s a lot easier if you have a pycno buddy to create openings for you
What's a good Dino for a complete beginner as myself
@@Scot-land Depends on your play style (big, small, fast, slow, etc). If you’re new, speed will be easiest starting out. Many large groups of players play this game, so being able to run away and escape them is crucial. Things like pachy, achillo, and cerato are small but still fast and can pack a punch. Pycno just got a big tlc (and buffs) so it might actually be a good starter choice now too!
So pycno is one of those playables that requires a good amount of skill and understanding or itself and its opponents to be effective. Most I see try playing like Allo
Just imagine how good Pycno would be if hornswipe did at least 60 damage
Honestly it should for how long the cooldown is
@@Khanware I'm convinced that the devs hate Pycno. That's why its weight is only 3300 even though it was speculated to weigh more than Dasp and Allo irl 😢
You have an achillo guide like this?
@@dillonwhisenant2153 I do! Its actually more in depth than this one and covers build as well. It’s on my channel about 10ish videos back, or you can just search my name and achillo
3:17 ☠️☠️☠️
beta mixpackers vs gigachad solo
I get it but I've just never got good at pycno tbh. Tap charging was the best I could use
It does take practice! It’s a pretty punishing dino to play if you make mistakes. I definitely died a few times figuring it out
but how to 1v1 a hatzegopteryx if it tail riding me
Brake check it, use tail attack, or charge away from it and reset
@@Khanware i can't i think i need a video for it
charge bugging out tho is annoying
I think I experienced this after the most recent patch. Is it when you land a charge but it just does nothing?
@@Khanware yes
That’s extremely annoying, hopefully they fix it asap
If a pycno bite does 45 damage tail does 20 and charge does 80 my favorite combo 3%+ damage attack species and 10% attack damage gives you 10% attack damage so your bite goes up to 55 damage your tail does 30 or if it’s already 30 it now does 40 damage and the charge does 90.6 or 90.2 damage
And if you go off my sisters thing then you get 13% extra damage so bite is now 58, tail is 33 or 43 if it already does 30 damage and charge does 93 damage that’s more than a Rex bite when it’s in a group so yeah pycno is amazing especially all the damage buffs.
Can it still knock anky out of hunker down?
@@Bavy-r6z No, that was patched a while ago. Apparently it wasn’t intended. Officially, ano can’t be knocked out of hunker by anything anymore. There is currently a bug where you “push” ano out of hunker on larger dinos (like sucho) by holding precise move and physically walking into the hunkered ano
@@Khanware ah thanks bro
where i can find out all current stats from all dinosaurs? can anybody help?
The wiki has a whole stats page, although it isn’t updated frequently and some of it is wrong. You can also use console commands in single player to check stats as well
@@Khanware is this only on pc possible or ps5 too ?!?
@@mingagaminggamerfreunde That I am unsure of, but I know you can on pc (that’s often how I pull my stats). I think you can on console as well but I’m not sure what the button to bring it up is on console
How about allo? It's my fav playable
Allo is decent, but not super great at the moment. I'm hoping for a tlc sometime soon. It's definitely better in groups
Yeah, Im never going to play officials, I don’t want to take 8 long to grow everything
Officials is definitely not for everyone. Lengthy growing is part of the experience. You can get a dino from baby to adult in 3 to 4 hours though if you're efficient! Definitely can be annoying though
Si ce tail only do 20 now id say the ladder 2 options are better now
Poor abelisaurs and their horrid turning 😭
it litterally just got a tlc lol
Yep this video was made a month ago, I'll be covering the tlc somewhat soon!
This dino is allways an easy match up for my struthi
It shouldn't be, maybe you just found some new pycno players lol
@@Khanware weak to leg dmg and no stomp, struthi and phycno are both hit and run fighters, and a HaR fighters biggest weakness is a smaller faster HaR fighter. This is why small raptors are not a good match up for struthi, and struthi is not a good match up for pyncno.
I’ve had no issues killing any Struth bold enough to stick around for the fight, never had an issue. With tail attack/bite you have decent coverage, just need to precise move a little bit. But to each their own
@@Khanware with struthi you have to run hide and heal around 2-3 times for most apex battles
dont be deceived by the health “buff” it was once already 550 at one point and got nerfed to 450.
A good Struthi player can easy kill an avarage Pycno player. The Struthi in this video was a Noob and not count.
This did not age well lmao
Leave to alderon to nerf a dino that was already underperforming on average in the first place
Pycno is trash tier in every way, I bully Pycno with Cera, Conca, Alio, Pachy even struthi.. The only way to survive is charge to escape and eat AI.
Did you watch the video lol
It's still bad
Pycno is so bad i face tanked an achillo and died 💀
