The extraordinary genius of Mozart is so evident here! In my opinion, he is unquestionably the greatest musician that has ever existed. Alfred Brendel is a master pianist!
This rendition is beyond exquisite. It's a lesson to amateur pianists (myself) and to professionals also. He has the tempo for all the variations spot on, and love the appropriate use of ritardando - not often seen in this "supposedly" easy sonata. His use of the sustain pedal, is something I think Wolfgang would have loved to have heard in from a modern piano. Love the way Alfred isn't afraid to bang out some of the notes with force.
I LOVE the word polyphony... this is the ONLY interpretation of this difficult, outstanding Mozart oeuvre which I can imagine that Mozart himself would sit there with a bright smile, recognizing his music with all the spirit he tried to put in... and enjoying to listen this spheric performance. You are 100% right - Alfred Brendel (I had the privilege to listen to his concerts several times in Vienna) is the Ambassador of Mozart's message to all of us. Unfortunately too less people are listening carefully. I will always try to get my ears free for such gifts. God bless you. Kindest regards Michael Wiblinger, Vienna, Austria
Michael, I'm so grateful for your note. Yes, isn't "polyphony" a great word and a great accomplishment?! I so agree with what you have written. Brendel is my favorite pianist for Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. In addition to his ability to bring out multiple voices, he gives us a musical line that is going somewhere. I cannot emphasize this enough. I, too, was fortunate to see/ hear him live--in my home town of Chicago. I feel that no pianist can match his performances of the Beethoven piano concertos. You might find a recording of him playing the concertos with the CSO. His playing of the Emperor elevates us to a higher place. So glad and honored to share this joy with you. -Joan Blake,
Although I admire Brendel's ananlytic but nonetheless emotional approach to this widely underrated piece of musical art, I prefer, for once, Gulda's Interpretation, because it adds a deep poetic moment, that almost makes me forget to breathe.

I was really impressed with. Particularly because I'm a pianist and have played the rondo so many times. listening to his version is like an "ah ha!" moment ("so thats all the stuff im doing wrong!" )- such a great interpretation.

Probably, but don't count out Weird All Yankovic.
Undoubtedly one of the greats. His Mozart is cristalline yet full of sentiment.

Heard so many versions..this one is the one! Perfect timing and amount of restraint. No big name in the way of Mozarts music. Love it!!
I agree with you
Brendel will remain a poet in the hearts of music lovers. In his hands music and poetry flow into each other...
well said. thanks.
Un exquisito.

So well said. I've always loved Brendel's Mozart. He's captured the innocence and the mischievousness(sometimes a bit cheeky) in such a refined way.
Its beyond awful. Not even polyphonic, but monophonic, its exactly what one shouldn't do.
I so love and admire Brendel's playing (always)... his gift for polyphony and his ability to develop a musical line .
joan blake great comment!!

Bredel is really in a class of his own. I had never heard such a beautiful interpretation of this Sonata.
I suggest you listen to his interpretations of Mozart's piano concertos 17, 20 and 23.
Try Edwin Fischer (his teacher)
Magnificent Brendel playing my beloved Mozart!
wunderbar - Brendel ist wunderbar!
Quel bonheur de vous écouter merci
It is so easy, bright and natural.
Absolut!
Brendle is my favorite interpreter of Mozart's piano works.
Brendel, I think. Not Brendle.
Dankeschön für diese Aufnahme!

@Khari Kalel khari kiri?
Beautiful ! Thank you !
I love Mozart ;)
Such an honor for Mozart that you lerve him , silly person. At least you didn't say you liked him and give him an uplifted thumb.
MASTER!
the last variation, it's amazing. Can't understand the clearness and crisp playing at that spsed.
Just listen to how Brendel makes the piano sing under his fingers...! Very very few can match his touch..... Just listen!!
Then you haven't heard Vladimir Ashkenazy.
@@jayadsilva67 difficult to compare the two! Both are masters of their craft
I'm not always a fan of Brendel, but this performance is very beautiful.
I think he means Alfred and Wolfgang, not vulgar?!
I love rhe march as it is played,A MARCH ! Not as a party piece to prove how fast it can be played.
best version of the 'turkish march'
I was really impressed with. Particularly because I'm a pianist and have played the rondo so many times. listening to his version is like an "ah ha!" moment ("so thats all the stuff im doing wrong!" )- such a great interpretation.

W. A. Mozart R.I.P.🥀
BRAVO 💐 💖
R.I.P MOZART 😔RESPECT FROM TURKEY. RESPECT ALFRED BRENDEL
My favorite, brings tears to my eyes...but the ad interrupted ugh

Who interrupts Mozart with commercials? Pretty well played otherwise.

Is his Rondo a Urtext type?
nope
@Nina Zhang
of course it is,shame on u👎

Above comment (mehmetiksel) sums it up.
Had to wait 16 minutes to get to the Bugs Bunny part. 😂

I hear you
Good catch… indeed.
Very difficult to play up to Turkey 🇹🇷
The turkish march is too fast! It should be an Allegretto.
You are so right!☺

Not good. Too complicated. Too german. Awful
