- The airfield was built by the Luftwaffe during the expansion of the military by Nazi Germany, between 1938 and 1939. When opened it had a single 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) runway.[1]
The airfield was occupied by the Red Army in May 1945. From this point forward, several units of the Soviet Air Force were stationed here. After extending the runway to 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) in the early 1950s, a 2,000 metres (6,600 ft) emergency runway and dispersal area were also added.[1]
This allowed the base to house a fighter regiment, which was equipped with air superiority fighter aircraft, requiring the construction, in 1970, of 10 Hardened aircraft shelters (HAS), and in 1972 a second parallel 2,500 metres (8,200 ft) main runway. In the late 1970s additional HAS's were added bringing their numbers to 24, with a nuclear alert bunker built in the early 1980s.[1]
With the reunification of Germany from 1989/1990, the Soviet Army agreed to return all military bases by the end of 1994. With the assistance of an airlift undertaken by Antonov An-22 aircraft, the airfield was handed back to the Federal Government of Germany in 1992.

Hele andere video, maar brengt mij wel 5/6jaar terug in de tijd.. Toen ik er nog op uit ging en dagenlang aan het researchen was voor verlaten gebouwen in en rond om Nederland. Deze was vlot gevonden. ;-) Mooie video Fred!

Ja ff wat anders maar niet de eerste urbex op het kanaal wat mijn interesse heeft is het voormalige DDR tijdperk voor de rest zal er niet veel urbex gerelateerd op het kanaal verschijnen gokik maar wie weet. Veel research gedaan dus voor je werk dedtijds? Maar ben blij dat je het een mooie video vond bedankt voor het kijken groet!

Ben hier zelf ook geweest. Zon grote locatie met veel geschiedenis en zelfs met een bunker waar ze nucleaire wapens hielden. Helaas zijn we weg gevlucht omdat er een man op het dak op een van de flatgebouwen met een machete stond te zwaaien. Voor de rest een prachtige locatie
Indrukwekkende locatie idd! Ow meenje El Machete achter je aan 🤣 ik ben gelukkig niemand tegengekomen maar kan me voorstellen dat je wazige lui kunt aantreffen daar

Blijft een aparte plek. Dacht even dat je die gammele toren opging. Gelukkig hield je het bij de drone😅.
Neej er zijn wel lui die dat doen maar zelf met klettersteig ga ik er niet op gammel is precies het goede woord idd! Maar mooi sfeertje daar idd!

Yeahh that would be great but its too late now the whole place is falling apart you don't want to airsoft there anymore you fall right trough floors or get a roof on your head... so not without risks. But yeah I think you could make a great terror movie there!! 😈 its it quite spooky

Hey Matt how are you doing? I hope you're doing well! Yes it is not a healthy place indeed! But sure the place is crusty but gives a odd atmosphere. Build by the Nazi's and from 1945 till 1991 the Soviets lived there and made quite a base there!
