Ever practiced something really challenging a hundred times, and when standing on that stage you just ended up playing the pentatonic scale up and down? #pentatonicislife
I'm more a intermediate player but i can play some really challenging stuff, every time someone wants me to play something i don't know what to do and just play scale runner and chrods plus simple notes. People are amazed but i feel ashamed
Kudos for the video content! Sorry for butting in, I would love your initial thoughts. Have you heard about - Riddleagan Blossoming Solo Remedy (search on google)? It is an awesome one off guide for mastering guitar scales minus the headache. Ive heard some great things about it and my BF after many years got astronomical success with it.
SuperXD44 you should only feel ashamed if you need to hide your true talent to please other people! Don’t do that my friend, never stop learning and don’t just learn by the book. Try to play with feeling, mix up single notes from scales to create your own solo/riff. Wish you luck buddy
Just so I'm understanding on a real practical level... 1. Learn all 5 shapes for Pentatonic on all 12 Root Notes 2. Memorize the map of the fretboard. 3. Shred.
These videos are great, I'm an intermediate level player and all of these vids (no matter how simple or challenging they seem) help me realize something to improve my playing. Be it technique, timing, or music theory, I'm amazed with how much I've advanced in the past couple of months, and look forward to learning much more.
I’ve been playing the guitar for 20 years and only recently started to fully engage with it. I was comfortable in the cowboy chords but now I’m learning Triads and learning the full neck. Thank you for putting such great content out there to help me in my journey!
I started doing the same with the major scale and just changing notes here and there to produce the modes. Make sense and it's not loads of stuff to remember. Also gives you a base to go back to at any time.
Just so you know, you tutorials are excellent, and very appreciated. I hope you see this, because I am sure it can become a very repetitive feeling and wondering if you are actually doing any good for anyone wanting to learn, while teaching this stuff. YOU ARE VERY APPRECIATED!!! Thank you so much for your time.
yes paul! make a video or a series about imrovising for dumies! how to start! because there are so much videos on the internet about scales patterns and i dont know where to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!congrats for your 400k!
Thank you for inspiring me to pick up my guitars and use my brain! There is no substitute for knowledge of the fretboard and music theory. Practice, practice and practice and memorize. Taking small steps like this leads to a longer and more adventurous journey! Learning with TAB is great but will only get a person a fraction of the way. Thank you Mr. Davids!
Fantastic tips! Thanks a mill Wasn't paying attention and then @ 2:28 , I hear "release & pull out again", that's when I was convinced this is deeper than guitar!
You are absolutely the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. Thank you so much for contributing your knowledge . I’m going to religiously watch your videos to get me out of my rut. Thanks from England
So grateful to find this video searching a way to work on my pentatonics. You just open a door to a lot more adventures in my beginner journey 🙏 thank you
You beautiful man! This video has helped me immensely, took me several days of alternating between watching this video and working on the guitar. But now I can literally point to a random note on the fretboard and go up and down the major or minor pentatonic and find the corresponding chords and inversions easily! So satisfying! Thanks for making these amazing videos and also for not dumbing them down. Exploring these concepts for yourself is really where things start to come together
Paul you are "one of the best teachers" of the guitar that I've come across. Excellent, and very precise, in your method of instructions; and duly noted, sir. You are a superb guitarist, and I thank you very much! So glad I found you. Best!
Why do so many guitarists scoff at pentatonic scales? Shredder snobs I call them. Paul Gilbert, king of shred said it best, “There’s a reason pentatonic scales are played so much. Because pentatonics are GOOOD!” Most guitarist think of pentatonic lick as staying inside the “box”. There are so many ways to play a pentatonic scale that make them sound so good.
I was subbed more than a year ago, (meanwhile i was inactive on acc) this guy had 1000 subs and about 1700 views on clips, now i came back, and saw 370k and millions lol.. Good job
initiatlly had a bit of problem as close-up camera wasn't having a straight-close-up view in figuring the notes you were talking and playing. But after repeated views figured the keys/notes and i must say this is a wonderful lesson. Thanks so much for it..!! Now, trying to figure the same with other keys as you said. Cheers.
+ Miguel Alho + Paul Davids - You guys shocked me with this at first, until I did a search. I'm assuming you mean the rather nerdy young kid who plays guitar and sings so well, not the Trump/Jesus "country" music idol?
A very helpful video. I have done these patterns with a half-knowledge developed through years of poking around in the pentatonic boxes. Your insights now make it phenomenally clear. Keep up the great work!
Yeah g'day mate, thanks for your time, effort n sharing your musical knowledge, all what your saying I'm following and understanding, it is making good sense to me!Merry Christmas n have a Happy New Year for you n yours, cheers cob😎🇦🇺🍻👍
1. So basically find all the Gs 2. Make a note pattern out of it 3. Replicate those same note patterns you just made in higher/lower octaves or in different locations of the fretboard.
Wow, this video just blew my mind on how people visualize intervals on the fretboard. I think I've been playing guitar for 2 years without truly understanding what the dots are for...
Very knowledgeable guy. I got lost somewhere between the title and the content I'm afraid. I'm learning the Pentatonic scales but I missed the part about how to master them.
My method of training penatonic is: take a note on the low E string. Play scale to the right. Play scale to the left. Then remember which box is it. Repeat on all strings. This way i repeat all boxes, and play pentatonic in every possible shape.
The Viking of Guitar! Killer tone! Thanks for the video very helpful :D... so basically we must know the notes on the fretboard and instead of doing (or thinking?) in a vertical way we can use little chunks of the scale to move it all around the neck :D niceee
I really like your videos. They're so well recorded, informative, and to the point and of course you're a great guitarist and know your stuff. A bonus is that my partner is Dutch so I love your accent and also love your subtle jokes at your accent like "Chi Major" so funny! Big ups to you bro, from a Samoan musician down under in Aotearoa / Niew Zeeland! Jah love!!

Paul Davids we've all been there!! Well said!
HAHAHAHAHA Yuuuuppp!!

Boom easy
No, you only need one shape and you have to apply the shift on the b string ;)
@@Nevrojs yes, but practically you still need to practice all fingerings, you know… ergonomics
isnt that soloing in a nutshell
1. learn scale
2. learn in all keys
3. shred

So basically you need to be good at finding the G-Spot. Got it!
Finally something my guitar and my girlfriend have in common !!!
Yeah... know the theory, but in practice...
thats what she said.
LMAOOO
You've got to get the fingering right though
Could you make a video about improvising? Pls, I know you would do it much better than other youtube guitarists :)
what do you think is the best scale to play with?
Good idea!
+Justin Morris pentatonic.
Erwu 1337 start with learning modes and training your ear etc
... Can't go wrong.

"Stay tuned." HAHA
Such an inspirational guy! Just blown away by your skills every time I watch one of your videos!
I've been playing almost 10 years and just learned something new, thank you!
You are the incarnated hope of every lazy musician. Thank you.
You are a blast Paul David...you just made me know how powerful the pentatonic scale is!
You are absolutely the best guitar teacher on UA-cam. Thank you so much for contributing your knowledge . I’m going to religiously watch your videos to get me out of my rut.

wow he’s come so far in two years the production is insane now
I've just subscribed...
I'm also a guitar player and the easy way you expose your method to apply that is comfortable and simple.
Thanks for teaching!
Paul you are "one of the best teachers" of the guitar that I've come across. Excellent, and very precise, in your method of instructions; and duly noted, sir. You are a superb guitarist, and I thank you very much! So glad I found you. Best!
Paul you are source of such good content. Thank you for being on UA-cam. Keep it up dude!
hey man, thx a lot !! been playing for 10 years, still struggling over pentatonic major & minor. really helpfull.

State Brigga he's the Peter McKinnon of Guitar
I watch this video in 2024, and understand, that this tone is the best ever, not any other your tone. Please show us how to get this tone, Paul 😌
I've watched a bunch of videos from ur channel, but this one made me subscribe. Great stuff!
Wow that is a great lesson. A couple of those riffs remind me of Eric Johnson.
Your'e great guitarist and teacher, Paul. Greetings from Poland :)
Who say's you can't teach an old (62) dog new tricks. Now I can play something with a melody. Thank you very much Paul.
Is the beginning riff something you came up with ? 'Cause it's pretty damn tasty
Yes... Just a short semi-improv!
Nice one man!
it has that "Europe -superstition " wibe? no?
Christian Lopez probably improv

just wanted to say I love your videos and you are a fantastic player!!!
Essential stuff. Don't dive into shortcuts to speed picking crap or anything. Always start with this kinda thing. 10 /10
It helps me get some idea!
Thank you bro.... great work!
Want to c more in the future
my favorite youtube channel love all the videos very helpful when trying to learn
I really think you should collab with Josh Turner. You guys are, by far, the best content creators on youtube
Miguel Alho very different channels but both great. Would be a great collab
I think Josh is awesomeeee!
Both my favourites too!
+ Miguel Alho + Paul Davids - You guys shocked me with this at first, until I did a search. I'm assuming you mean the rather nerdy young kid who plays guitar and sings so well, not the Trump/Jesus "country" music idol?
Patrick Fitzgerald yes, that one.
A very helpful video. I have done these patterns with a half-knowledge developed through years of poking around in the pentatonic boxes. Your insights now make it phenomenally clear. Keep up the great work!
Every kirk hammet fan needs this haha. That’s why I’m here

Excellent Paul, I learned something from your guitar method. Thank you, and all the best!!!
Wow, this video just blew my mind on how people visualize intervals on the fretboard. I think I've been playing guitar for 2 years without truly understanding what the dots are for...
What?? The ad that played during this video was the car one that plays the same pentatonic licks in different octaves! Wow!
This channel is gold. Thanks!
Now I am beginning to understand what's this' lick' in music is all about. I bought a book on pentatonic scales learn in 14 days
Very knowledgeable guy.
I got lost somewhere between the title and the content I'm afraid. I'm learning the Pentatonic scales but I missed the part about how to master them.
4:14 "There are so many Ges, but every Ge is an " ;-) Great vid Da-vids! Keep it up!
Hi Paul, great lesson, giving direction with the pentatonics, you have just made me subscribe, many thanks.
Sometimes you know what you are doing to much without explaining. We don't know what we're doing and need more explaining to follow. THANK YOU!! :)
That just opened up 3 maybe 4 different arpeggios to me and I'm on my acoustic. Thanks
I agree, knowing what you're doing always helps!
This brings so much clarity to things I've been hearing and not quite understanding for years... thank you Paul!
Can somebody please explain how he gets that amazing tone? What effects is he using on his amp to make it sound like that?
Paul you are a badass guitarist.
Very cool have to get to the root notes but it isn't essential but it does make it sound better when you do.
You are so intelligent, that´s why we like you, you make it all..... understandable ☝🏼
Hi this is today and we are learning the best way to Paul.
You are really a legend Sir. Lots love ♥️
I could listen you play all during the daya, you play pretty good ahha !
"It's very easy"😂😂
My method of training penatonic is: take a note on the low E string. Play scale to the right. Play scale to the left. Then remember which box is it. Repeat on all strings. This way i repeat all boxes, and play pentatonic in every possible shape.
Really great explanation and very helpful. Thanks

The Viking of Guitar! Killer tone! Thanks for the video very helpful :D... so basically we must know the notes on the fretboard and instead of doing (or thinking?) in a vertical way we can use little chunks of the scale to move it all around the neck :D niceee
i like this aproach...just find the root note then up two frets for the next note the next string is one fret down except on the b string
Excellent as always.
Very helpful! Thanks Paul!
Very Helpful thanks Paul!
Thanks mr. Paul Davids👍 God Bless
You are an amazing player Paul, Thanks!
Good work as usual. Guys, just persist.
The Rosetta Stone for pentatonic scales. Great lesson.
Muhas gracias Paul, por esta magnifica colección de videos tutoriales. y por explicar esta visión de la pentatónica.
Great lesson paul!
wow, your gtr is perfectly calibrated, the intonation is spot on!! did u do it yourself?? if yes a video would be great!
Thank you!! Now I understand why my guitar teacher made me learn all this "boring" stuff about notes! 😅 I'll practice all this tricks right now 😉
Love your lessons Paul, like to see you cut loose being yourself to inspire where we are heading! Shred it! ☮️
I really like your videos. They're so well recorded, informative, and to the point and of course you're a great guitarist and know your stuff. A bonus is that my partner is Dutch so I love your accent and also love your subtle jokes at your accent like "Chi Major" so funny!
