I think it is premature to rate MSL. Considering the injuries and lack of scoring depth, he has accomplished a lot with what he has to work with. His inexperience has shown through a few times but it is a learning experience for him as well. I hope he has a long career with the Habs, similiar to Jon Cooper with the Lighting
I think Marty is doing a great job with the Canadians. The team is looking better all the time in spite of the many young players and the number of injuries they've had. The players are learning the systems he's put in place and are improving week by week. I think we can still use some help in goal and more scoring, but I believe these things will come with time and experience. We also need to look at the good young players we now have coming up through the organization. All of these things are positives for a great future. I support all of the things Marty is doing. We're also in the strongest division in the NHL with the youngest team. Now the team doesn't give up, they're learning everyday. This team hasn't looked this positive in many years. I hope Marty remains with the Canadians for the foreseeable future. .
A coach can only do so much with the tools he has been given. This team has many issues that need to be addressed by management. The PK needs to improve now. We also cannot seem to hold the lead. We blew the lead too many times, we could be further up in the standings. Unless WiFi is injured, why is he still down. We need him back as a deterrent to other teams not to mess around with our young players.
He is the perfect example of "It takes one, to know one." He was a player, now teaching the players. I havent been into hockey for a long time, but since really getting into hockey in 2015, I have never seen such beautiful chemistry between players and their coach in montreal, until he came in. If they let Martin go any time soon, they prove that management has no faith in their team. Montreal is going places, mark my words.
I think he's done a great job under the circumstances. However, it's becoming evident that he's starting to lose the room. Marty has used Montreal to launch his career just as much Montreal used Marty to save this team. Truth is Habs are handcuffed with contracts they can't unload or trade, thus causing this rebuild to drastically slow down. Biggest issue is French coaches, we will never see the likes of many character coaches as a result. I wonder when the league will crack down on this racism?
We are beginning to see what this team is going to be under marty. This team does not quit. They are gonna be playing as a unit. Their defense is better their penally kills better. If they ever get their power play up to least twenty two percent, this team is a playoff team.
They never ask like other streamers but I think we ALL (those who watch) subscribe and at least Thumbs Up the Video for the work they all do. Thx to all 4 of you to take time to comment on some Habs talk. Yes , I do agree Marty is good for now to inspire the young kids , structure will come in time , look how Slav developpe right now , there is a lot of coach understanding and trust in there , think about it , same with the little feint during training with Goal Caufield , and that is all we SEE , imagine what we don't. Have a nice season everyone who ever you cheers for.
They just beat dalllas on the road there last five games have been the the best Habs hockey in years and what Marty has done with Slav I don’t think too many other coaches would have put that much time and energy into I think he is a great coach except for his one mistake putting arber in Laval ouch.
Why is Marty staying with Armia and on the third line no less! Why is Barron still in the line up when his defensive mistakes are becoming a major liability? Ylonen needs to be moved up in the line up. Why is he on the fourth line yet is on the second unit on the power play? Makes no sense. I like Marty and his approach, but he makes mistakes in some areas.
To answer Nilan about Bergevin's era which was supposed to be that bad, Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, Mailloux, Xhekaj, RHP, Savard, Harris, Struble, Farrell, Roy, Montembeault, even the Dach and Barron trades were made because they had Romanov / Lekhonen; all of them were basically the results of Bergevin's prior work. This is not a genuine rebuild we are witnessing here since the fans/media expect a playoff contending team within 5 years...or heads might start rolling in the upper management !!!
Great show!! Good to see Knuckles 👌. MSL is amazing. See 22, 20, 17 - a coach who gets it. Sees things others miss, eg Slav’s “readiness” to make a big step. Josh’s need for coach’s confidence to help him finally breakout of slump. Are there things to work on - PK, PP other situational plays - but he and club are knocking them off as fast as they can. Having 10 “priorities” that you don’t attack in order of importance results in little improvement in any of them. I hope MSL gets to hoist a Cup in Montréal. GHG
We are 31/32 on the PK, we are 27/32 for goals per game, 27/32 for goals against. I mean you can have concept in minds, but they are clearly not working. So yes for me, the honeymoon is over. Nothing is working, yes ok they fight, but every team fights, that is not a valid argument.
Eventually, we've seen it time and again, coaches are hired to be fired. Very few exceptions to the rule. Not to say I don't like Martin St. Louis. It's just that in the last 30 years since the last Cup, we've been seeing too many in Canadiens management not taking the time that is REALLY NEEDED to stock up the talent level from the minors up to the big club.
Is MSL the best teacher out of every head coach in the league? Hes saved Caufield, Dach, starting Newhook, Monahan, Matheson, Slafs carrers. In the Habs old system they all wouldnt be the players they are now with them.b
The Canadiens need a handful of great scoring talents beyond Caufield and Suzuki to determine if MSL is the coach for the next dozen years. When we get back to playoff hockey and MSL ends up as successful as the lump of lard behind the bench in T.O. then it will be time to move on and hire Paul Byron
As someone else has commented, this team plays with compete every night, and they play as a team. These are things that must be the most difficult to coach highly paid professional athletes. They are improving slowly but surely. Martin St Louis is doing an amazing job. He's even winning his challenges.
Martin St.Louis the best coach! How can a coach with zero experience be the best? I know one thing, lots if talent on the team and St.Louis isn't using it much. Anyone can coach a team to not make the playoff's.
Its been thw Marty party ever since they hired him. His introduction speach to the boys, the impact on Cole's game, the progression for Slafkovsky in only 76 career games. This team never takes a shift off, they fight till the buzzer. He's also maximized this teams strengths with the top line carrying the offense and our strong dcore tied for the lead in d goals. Hes going to lead this team to a championship one day!
When StLouis was hired, we knew that he was going to learn on the job. I think that a more experienced coach could possibly get a few more wins, but I think that he long term development of the team would suffer. Let’s be patient, the 25-26 season will be the one where this experiment in development will be graded. Looking at Sens, Sabres, Wings, suggests that rebuilding is hard.
There is NO reason that the coach NEEDS to speak french. This is handcuffing the team and is racist. Time to throw that stupid idea out and bring in the best people. Period.

Two years now.

He's French: A+.
Marty good for another 2 yrs before huge expectations .

If anybody should leave, it should be Burrows. The PP has been horrible under him. MSL is the coach I want for this team.
This panel shouldn’t rate coaches. You can teach defense and MSL hasn’t done it yet. Systems vs concepts. That’s semantics.
I think he's done a great job under the circumstances. However, it's becoming evident that he's starting to lose the room.

Nothing against him as a person but he and the staff is a bad coaching staff and it shows on the ice

I don't get rating MSL, he wasn't expected to win a Stanley cup so he can't have failed yet
Marty is doing fine! This is a bad team.
They just beat dalllas on the road there last five games have been the the best Habs hockey in years and what Marty has done with Slav I don’t think too many other coaches would have put that much time and energy into I think he is a great coach except for his one mistake putting arber in Laval ouch.

Best coach since Jaques Demerse, or Jaques Lemaire
Best picture possible here... Nice freeze frame 🤣
I like him we are doing good remember we have lost three players
MSL seems to be coaching humans before hockey players.. He makes me remember of Jacques Demers in that way .

The worst coaching staff in the history of the Montreal Canadiens
I disagree. That award goes to Mario Tremblay and his staff!
