Tasmota stuff... Possibly. Probably not on the ZB Bridge Pro as it isn't a recommended solution at all. Lots of CC2652P based USB and Ethernet adapters out there that are more reliable.
I've gone back and forth on HAOS vs docker many times along with other services of addons vs not and I've simplified my rule to say I run first party whenever possible. Between docker HA vs HAOS in a VM I am now going the latter route because it's more "first party" per what the HA team constantly communicates but when it comes to NodeRed I don't use addons because it's not first party someone ports the original application into an addon which I don't like.
I have tried them all myself. And kept going back to docker containers. It keeps things decoupled, lightweight on resources and easier to support when things go wrong. I have missed out on quite a few forced bugs and breaking changes this way too. It all boils down to what you want to support. Your way is the best.
So Thread devices by EVE need homekit and their app for firmware updates and settings tweaking. Now Matter needs their app for....... I still can not see the benefit of this! On a side note, I guess I'm not cool any more going from docker on my synology nas to HASS on a PC.
@@digiblurDIY I've given myself 2 years to see how thread develops and what it brings to the table, otherwise it's just another protocol. I like my smarthings multipurpose sensors but the battery life on these buggers are poor.
Yup. Watching the thread side as well and I don't think we will see much there except maybe some battery style sensors eventually. I bet most things will stay Matter via WiFi
Hmm . Maybe review of alternative platforms? HA politics and their strange practises getting really questionable, not to mention security issues , stability and privacy risky integrations . Zigbee 2 Mqtt or other parts of platform are interesting, but HA itself is not the platform to build serious smart home system and seems like nothing changed much for years. I'm currently looking for alternatives.
Yup. We are spoiled with this with HA. The cool part will be other smart homes that use say just Google Home or Alexa and not some fragmented mess once Matter kind of takes off.
@@digiblurDIY I was a little disappointed adding those bulbs because it was too easy. 😂 I had got used to getting a device then having to flash it first.
I don't want to sound gloomy but in no universe manufacturers will give away their apps. Just ain't happening unless somebody big (Google) enforces it that way. It's not because matter is new, it's because it's how they make money. Even HA now wants you to use their own HAOS thing. Do you know why this container requires network set to host? It always frustrates me as I cannot deploy this into a cluster property. Anyway, thanks for the video.
Actually that is happening. I'm looking at the manual to a Matter light bulb and they make zero mention of it working with their app. In fact I tried to add it to the app to check for a firmware update and it won't see it. It just wants to join via Matter. The quick start guide only has instructions for adding to matter based hubs. No idea, that would be a question for the developers on the host networking.
I had the misfortune of buying some matter switches thinking they would be better and easier. Complete opposite. Harder to integrate and less functionality than regular devices. Complete garbage.
i always avoid the Docker container thing , but i think i have to learn it, home assistant takes full control over the add ons, and sometimes you need to change things and you either can't or it's more complicated since these add ons are managed by HA, i just signed up for a docker container course and will learn , hopefully it won't be too complicated for someone with zero Linux background
I didn't see a single eye roll in this video. Excellent discipline! Will check back in about a year for the latest matters on matter.
Hahaha.... I was saving them for the next Matter video.
help me a lot, thanks
thanks for this, works great with unraid
Great to hear!
Thanks Travis for the great video. Are you maybe also going to make one about updating Tasmota 13 and Zigbee latest on the ZBBridge Pro?

The cool kids run HA in a VM whit Proxmox 😂
Too many layers of virtualization there for my liking. Docker containers in a VM locked down by services..
@@digiblurDIY I run HA os in a VM 👍

So only Unraid network settings need to be IPv4+6 but my actual pfSense and Unifi can remain IPv4 restricted?
You are correct. Exactly how I have things.
@@digiblurDIY works with Aqara U100 over the M2 hub thank you
I was searching for the matter-server on my truenas scale system, but no luck. Does anybody know if I can run a matter-server there and how to do it?
No docker or docker compose?
I successfully added a new device, but it went offline after a few hours. How can I find out the reason?
Other than looking in the logs and make sure it is still on the wifi

Exactly my point on this. It's going to be a mess for a bit. Some require firmware updates before matter even works!

NodeRed is a great choice.
Still no matter here... Does it really matter? Maybe in another year I'll jump on the bandwagon.
Probably a good choice as I indicated..give it a year or more.
Pull something out and just pair it up? Like ESP Home devices we can buy from companies like Kauf?

Hi, I followed this but I get OSError: [Errno 105] No buffer space available in my matter server docker container. Any ideas?
I'd check the github repo to see if others have reported that as well as making sure it can write to your folder that you have mapped.
I had the misfortune of buying some matter switches thinking they would be better and easier. Complete opposite. Harder to integrate and less functionality than regular devices. Complete garbage.
Yup. I do not recommend the matter devices unless you can't find it any other local protocol form factor.
Cool
OTBR? how to set this up? and thank you for your efforts. Let me find the right direction.
That's Thread. Do you have a border router like the Skyconnect?
Nice!!
the doom & gloom scares me away from being a cool kid, lol. great video as always
A little sarcasm there as I pick on supervisor.
Getting an error, "The Matter server is not the correct version".
Probably due to the breaking change in the matter server update this morning. Roll back to the 4 tag of the container or upgrade your HA.
@@digiblurDIY that’s correct. I got there by checking the HA Discord and found that around the same time as you replied!
Thank you!!

Docker compose is pretty awesome. It wasn't that hard to learn how to manage containers.
