You recognize the sarcasm in Ephesians 2:11 speaking of the "so-called circumcision". Good. What about the phrase in Romans 2:17 basically saying the same thing in different words, "you call yourself a Jew". Doesn't that sound just a little bit odd in reference to an actual Jew? I think Paul is addressing "fashionably mutilated Gentiles," who thought that by snipping the tip, the could somehow become Jewish. It seems that this Roman group had forgotten the same thing Paul sought to remind the Galatians of in Gal. 5:3. I don't see Paul beginning his treatment of natural-born, circumcised-on-the-8th-day Israelites until Rom. 3:1.
They have not delve deeper on the other truth about christians are the spiritual jews. I am not espousing replacement theology, but more on the grafting principle, thus I do not say that God does not have a plan anymore for the natural jews in this last days. Jesus Christ was a Jew. he followed diligently the traditions and the laws of the Jews, he did not come to abolish it, he fulfilled it by doing the two greatest commandments. For us as his followers we should do the same but all in the spiritual way by the power of the Holy Spirit, not by the letter. Once we embrace our Jewishness as a christian, everything will all be clear to us that all that God has instituted for the natural jews applies to christians too, even on matters of election and prophetic plan of God for His set apart people (natural & spiritual jews).
