I recently tied the proxy recording and it really came in handy, when I wanted to do a do a quick edit of my footage on my old slow laptop on vacation. Kinda felt like magic to be able to instantly be able to edit, when I'm used to first having to generate proxies in resolve for half a day before I can do anything with it.
Hahah, yeah, exactly! I was well aware of cameras being able to record proxies internally but I only started appreciating it once I picked up the FX30 and got to set it up exactly how I like it for myself. Before that I'd just get handed footage recorded without proxies and I'd have to sit around and wait for hours for Resolve to generate them before I could actually do anything.
This is EXACTLY what I was looking for - thank you!! I’ve tried creating proxies in DR, but it takes forever and I always seem to screw it up somehow. This is WAY easier.
I noticed that my proxy files are saving within the same folder where my high quality 4k footage (sony fx 30) is and the proxy files are next to the 4k files and they have the letters so(then number of clip). Is there a way someone has found to use this work flow to relink in a smoother way/ less steps like making davinci automatically link proxies as it knows the file system?
Did you ever find out how to turn off the LUT baking into the proxies? My A7SIII doesn't bake it in which is brilliant but the FX30 makes it so that if I want to see the correct colors after grading, I have to turn off the proxies. It's annoying.
I found it I was actually in shooting settings without being in my menu and adding it over.. sorry just bought it great tutorial and explanation my guy! Life saver
I don't know... proxies add some complexity to file management. In my case I found the best workflow improvement I got was changing how I set up my render cache settings: I have an internal ssd (sata, nothing crazy) just for the cache (the media storage location), I use smart render cache, and I have the cache codec on dnxhr sq. Not having the cache on the same drive as my video files made a huge difference and I find smart cache does a good job of pre rendering whatever section of the edit I'm working first.
Yeah, that could also work but in my case it's not as much a storage speed problem as it is an old CPU and GPU that are showing their age. As far as file management, I wouldn't say it's that much harder if you just keep the proxies in the same folder as the footage itself. Plus having proxies recorded in camera makes it easier to just copy them over and start working across different machines without having to remember to set everything up exactly the same way everywhere.
I use Lexar 1667x V60 cards to film in XAVC HS 4K at 100M with proxies turned on. As far as I know the only mode that needs V90 or CFexpress is XAVC S-I 4K. Think you should be able to film in all the other modes just fine with V60 cards even with proxies on 🙂

Happy to help!

Happy to help!
Thanks for mentioning the baked in lut! Others skip this part.
Glad to help!
good video thanks!
tried internal proxy yesterday and wanted to find out about whether it could record S-Log, i guess i'll have to work on the LUT footage then.
Thank you George! Very helpful!
Happy to hear!
Thank you George!

Unfortunately no, only way I know of is just mapping one of your buttons to toggle LUTs on and off and just turning them off before you hit record.
Пич, мога ли да видя неща, които си монтирал/снимал? Освен говорещи глави за тубата?
I don’t see this proxy setting on my fx30?
Have you set it to 120fps? If so, proxies aren't available at 120 unfortunately.

@@ShotbyXavie good to hear you figured it out! Thought it would be there by default. Glad I could help 🙂

Hey Homie, is a V60 card enough when filming both XAVC S 4k and 300M 4:2:2 10Bit while doing proxys ??
