You're so very good and thorough at doing these videos. Thank you very much - I've just ordered this wheel and I'll be re-watching it when I get it in my hands - cheers again Barry 👍
Some additional tips to anyone looking to assemble their Fanatec Porsche 911 GT3 R Podium wheel kit. Some things to do different from this video: 1) The small paddles should be attached the opposite way to shown in this video so they sit farther from the rim. 2) You should use the spacers to bring the large paddles closer to the wheel rim. This way the paddles are easier to reach and it is easier to manipulate the different paddles as they are offset distance wise from the rim. 3) When attaching paddle wires to the hub, use the cut out holes on the top, not on the sides. It will be a much cleaner look wires-wise. Also, FYI: I just received two sets of the Advance Paddle module and the carbon is now 3 mm thick.
Yet still reasonable priced unit if you try to put together similar performance any other method. Easily end up paying for MOMOs FIA licence or end up with 3d printed stuff.
My DD1 setup with this wheel came earlier this week. Thanks so much for the education - not only about the wheel and its assembly, but the mechanical expertise that you have.
@Sim Racing Stewart via iRacing Simulation if you can afford it, DO IT. not sure i'm any faster, but the immersion is unparalleled. i will say some sims are easier to configure than others.
Barry, you forgot to use the spacers on the APM Paddles for easier distinction between the upper and the Shifter Paddles. Also, the upper Paddles should be mounted from the back, not from the front (which already gives a slight gap for distinction between the Paddles so you don't accidentally push the wrong Paddle, especially when driving in VR and with Gloves). The cables of the APM should be as deep in the Podium Hub as possible, it's fitting well so no reason to not push the cable all the way in, looks much better and it doesn't popping out ;)
Spacers were not used because I did not want the paddle reach staggered. Muscle memory works well enough for me. But yes that is an option. Stuffing the thick cables against the PCB to take up the slack certainly is an option. But I would rather not take a chance of any cable rubbing on the PCB. The way the BME covers that part of the APM and captures the cables will keep them in place quite nicely.
Agree with the small upper paddles. I've mounted them from the back to get a little extra gap to the GT paddles. And i think it's the way it meant to be mounted. Upper paddles from the back, GT paddles from the front.
I have the podium shifter kit on my F1 rim and the paddles are solid. I've never had an issue with mine in over a year of heavy use, despite them being thin. Because of the magnetic actuators and short throw you don't put the kind of lever force on them that would weaken them. The original shifters were much easier to yank on too hard and on my original Formula Carbon rim I have absolutely bent the metal shifting plates on accident.
Thanks Barry! I really enjoyed watching this one. As you said I ordered just the wheel rim, but the leather one so I don't need gloves. That Porsche logo makes it so beautiful. Looking forward to mounting it to my base. Cheers from Belgium!
I would like for paddles to be 1mm thicker and smaller paddles somehow easier to reach. I don't know why, but this replica doesn't have quality and durability written on it on the first sight. I don't like Fanatec their brand name everywhere possible and their support isn't something to write home about. ... Still searching for a new wheel... The competing teams right now when it comes to new higher-end gear seems to be Fanatec DD vs Simucube 2. Would like to see a really good in depth review from you . Would really help in my purchase decision. Also keep up the Great work, your reviews are amazing.
You got me thinking Barry, what rim sizes would be perfect to cover all bases? I currently have a momo 350mm deep dish for nascar, drifting and regular road cars, 320mm for performance street and exotics. Completing my ‘end game’ set with a formula rim, is 250mm to small or would a 270mm be a better compromise? 🤔🤔🤔
Can you try multiple different wheels on this button box? I'm very interested in just the button module but I'm afraid my wheel's spokes may be too large and contact the buttons on the bottom right and left. I'm interested in a thicker spoked 300+mm wheel and the Turn R20 wheel rim

The wheel as a whole package is gorgeous as hell, there's no denying. Aesthetically especially, Porsche fanboy here! But i'm not a huge fan of the Fanatec quick release system and what i've seen in various reviews of the podium DD system, the amount of play and wobble in the connection is worrying. I wish someone would make an adapter to have this wheel work with a simucube 2 wirelessly, with the simucube dovetail-style mount or a Q1R . At least my simracing future for now looks like a Simucube 2 instead of a Podium DD, which is a shame, since i've drooled over this wheel since it was unveiled. And maybe someone has an adapter made or in the works, but my knowledge on these matters is still too incomplete. But all this thinking might be hoping for nothing..
Youre better off with the Simucube 2 mate. Plenty of wheel and button setups out there. I know fanatec has been hitting it hard these past 2-3 years to get that market share and theyve been releasing some great products but I think you can easily get something similar like this for your Cube. The one thing I dont like about fanatec even though I own their stuff, is the fact they nickel and dime their customers with their whole "Eco system". With the money I spent on a CSL Elite Setup I could have just got a Simucube if I was patient and pad the little bit extra. Its like buying a motorcycle, get the one with more power because if you get the slow one to learn on youll grow out of it quick and want to upgrade shortly after.
@@iamjamen I saw Barry review that on this channel too, and it seemed to eliminate alot of the wobble out of the system which seems like a very goof add-on. But it didn't seem like a "rock solid connection" even after that. Yes, i'm being really anal about it but at that price point especially, i would expect more rigidity out of a DD system. Maybe if fanatec would redesign their wheel mount system to include something like the z-ring in metal, then i would probably consider it seriously.
Hi Barry. I hope you can answer this. I just received the kit your reviewing here. On the podium hub, i noticed one of the gold pins that connect to the motor is shorter than the rest. Is this normal??? Are you able to check on your hub if thats the case? Thank you in advanced
could you drift with this wheel? how hard is it to let the wheel spin through your hands with thee D shape? Im looking for a good round wheel option for my podium dd1
i love your info mate you have made some of my buying decision easy, i am stuck on now to factors do i get the fanatec eco system or buy the simucube dd and get v3 peddles from fanatec and then what i am confused on is there way to hook up say fatantec wheels to the simubue dd base. cheers if anyone can share some info on it
I believe you can get Fanatec wheels to work on Simucube but it needs permanent cable between the steering wheel (Clubsport or Podium hub) and the PC (And a Fanatec - Simucube adapter ofcourse). As for the Podium wheels I think a lot of the functions of the wheel will NOT work. If you like the rims go for Fanatec, that is what I did. Even though I initially was looking for Simucube. But I was also already in Fanatec ecosystem.
Explosivefibers yeah I am not in that eco system at all but I do like the v3 peddles and shifter and handbrake. But over all thoughts on dd wheels sc2 seems to be the option I might go if I end up with dd base. I am weighing it up as it’s looking more n more like arm and leg just to get what Eva setup really. That said my mind keeps telling me it’s sc2 I want.
I really wonder when they'll add support so the podium endurance module compatibility to the clubsport wheel base? I know they stated it was coming but haven't seen anything else about it. I just got my first full clubsport fanatec setup but I accidentally ordered the podium wheel instead of the clubsport one and they don't sell the module separately so now I'm stuck and trying to figure out what my best options are, really a shame I spent all the cash and a simple error has completely sidelined me. Would love to hear what fellow fanatec people have for suggestions. Would they maybe swap it out? I'd be fine paying a restocking fee or something.
Did you enabled the ITM for iRacing via Fanalab? Then you should see in the display the small text "ITM". Once you see that text, press the tuning menu button and turn the funky switch at the same time to scroll between the legacy mode and ITM.
Barry, I have figured something out that is a huge problem with this wheel and many other Fanatec wheels. The wheels just stop working during a race or practice. I have the exact wheel combo in this video. My stuff is brand new and only two weeks old. During multiple races it would just stop working. It still had power but nothing worked. I added dialectic grease to the pins and all connectors and haven’t had the problem since doing that. I think this is something you should look into on your show as this is a BIG problem for many Fanatec owners. It’s a very cheap and simple fix. For one, why is it happening and two why did dielectric grease fix it?! Check it out. Thanks
@Sim Racing Garage hi Barry, There is a set with the same rim and podium bottom module endurance but with the universal hub. Could you please tell me if there's a benefit to get podium hub over universal hub for 100 €/$ more. I want to buy this set but can't decide between podium and universal hub. Thanks in advance.
The Universal hub comes with the standard shifters of the uni hub, so if you want better shifters a magnetic paddle upgrade will cost you 99dollar/euro making it a price of 650dollar/euro so actually if you want the podium paddles its the better deal with the podium hub because you get the podium paddles already in the deal so you save 80dollar/euro taking that one. I have heard though that the magnetic paddle shifter upgrade of 99dollar/euro is actually stiffer then the podium paddle shifter upgrade so it’s totally up to you if you want the extra paddles or not. Hope this helped you in any way and good sim racing ! ( I’m looking for the same wheel at the moment so glad to share the knowledge)

Hi! Is this wheel compatible only with universal hub and podium hub, or i can connect it to a thirth part hub? it s cause i have a simucube and i want this Porsche 911 gt3 cup wheel.. xd
Their current stick shifter doubles as a rally shifter. It has a rally knob and a stick shift knob and there’s a little switch on the bottom middle of the shifter body that you just switch the to side to turn it to push/pull mode
It would be nice since it has a USB-C plug if it were usable as a standalone button plate for other wheel systems - then even if you don't have a Fanatec base you could still purchase the product.
You can of course use third party wheels on the Podium Hub BUT you still have to connect the wheel via USB to the pc directly because the USB port on the Podium Hub is NO data port!
Amazing review, but i have one question: Can you test the compatibility with Clubsport Wheelbase v2.5, do the buttons still work and shifters? Would like to know, as always thanks for review and your work.
You can find all this information by using Google or have a look at the Webshop page. For now it is ONLY working with the Podium DD Bases. Other Bases need a firmware update to get compatibility which is coming later this year. So, no, it's not working with a CSW v2.5 atm. But, because you asked, the shifters are working because only the Button Module is not compatible yet.
@@Fanatec_is_TRASH the display will work to the full extend on the CSW v2.5 but not at the moment as described in the Webshop page because a firmware update is needed which is expected later this year.
I suspect Porsche are very choosy with whom they do business so their endorsement of Fanatec products is an indication to me of how good they are. This is also a great in depth review which led me to buy the clubsport version of this wheel.

If you can afford it I'm sure that you wouldn't even notice the extra electricity bill, and I've seen similar 4DoF movement set ups for about 2k.
Do you still use Fanatec?
Barry, what gloves would you recommend?
Does it have force feedback?
A professional review, as always. Pay $650 for a steering wheel? Not bloody likely.
You get what you for
Dear simracing god Barry, on what level is your ffb setting in fanalab with the dd1 porsche on acc?
I really want to use this wheel with my moza r9, any idea how i can do it?
Barry. Do you think you could get your hands on a Simetik k2 Cockpit. They are made in Portugal. Ive heard only good things about them. Looking at possible ordering one myself.
Would like to see a really good in depth review from you . Would really help in my purchase decision. Also keep up the Great work, your reviews are amazing.
Have MINE!
whats the rig this guy is using? Motion simulator and Shifter?
What sort of hex drivers are those Barry? I've been looking for a set of T-Handle hex keys, but I almost like your style better.
Hudy brand. Not cheap, but very good tools.
@@simracinggarage3026 Thanks for the response! Good tools can last a lifetime, so I bet it's worth the upfront expense.
For me, I would not want anything less the 270mm. But rim size preference is a subjective thing.
Can you try multiple different wheels on this button box? I'm very interested in just the button module but I'm afraid my wheel's spokes may be too large and contact the buttons on the bottom right and left. I'm interested in a thicker spoked 300+mm wheel and the Turn R20 wheel rim
How'd you get the display to work like that what button or setting do I need to get to make it work
Did you end up getting it working? Just got mine and don't know how to get it like that

Its in step 5 ---> Step 5: Install FanaLab 1.24 and enable Intelligent Telemetry Mode
Go to the folder "4. FanaLab_v1-24_beta" and start the "FanaLab_v1-24_beta.msi" to install FanaLab.
After the installation, close FanaLab if it's open.
Open the "Enable_ITM.reg" file in the "4. FanaLab_v1-24_beta" folder and accept the messages with yes.
Open FanaLab and use the button combination mentioned in the Quick Guide to switch through the ITM pages on the displays.
HOPE THIS HELPS!😎👍
How well is the suede holding up ? If anyone has been using the suede rim for a while , how is the suede looking now ?
Dunno if this or the 918 wheel is better
Hi Sir, Your small paddle assemble wrong side, you need put to opposite side of the steel.
Hi Barry,
Any chance you could see if the TurnRacing R20 fits on the Endurance Buttonbox Module? Would be much appreciated!
No chance. R20 is too small.
That setup is LIT AF 🔥
another great review, just gotta say you have to many nice equipment on that wall (:
hello sorry for a question but the Fanatec together with this steering wheel also the podium hub or do you have to buy it separately?
You can purchase a complete wheel with the Podium Hub, Rim, and Endurance Module. Or you can purchase them separately.
@@simracinggarage3026 thanks I purchased the whole bundle
What is the height of this wheel?
How do you get the wheel display the way you have it for iracing?
How the heck do you get the iracing setup to use the lower spring paddles for braking and throttles?
Do you have to buy fanatec hub separately, or do you get it when buying the wheel?
The hub comes with this version of the wheel.
Sim Racing Garage so it comes with the Podium version, that goes for like 650 Euros i believe?
Z-Ring = no wobble. Yes it has wobble from the factory. No it should not be sold with a wobble. Print/buy Z-Ring. Install. Problem solved.
Yes, one is shorter than the rest.
I don't open instruction booklets, I look on this channel
could you drift with this wheel? how hard is it to let the wheel spin through your hands with thee D shape?
Hi Barry, how do you activate the telemetrie of the porsche whell? couldn't find anything about the settings in Fanalab 1.24 or in I-Racing.
Did you enabled the ITM for iRacing via Fanalab? Then you should see in the display the small text "ITM". Once you see that text, press the tuning menu button and turn the funky switch at the same time to scroll between the legacy mode and ITM.
@@isthernes still forget to turn IRacing to Hub :-) now it works
Thanks
barry wich tools will needed to build ?
can you use it on PS?
If i buy a clubsport version of this wheel for my v2.5 will the button module not work either?
I would imagine that it would work
@Sim Racing Garage hi Barry, There is a set with the same rim and podium bottom module endurance but with the universal hub.
( I’m looking for the same wheel at the moment so glad to share the knowledge)
will the rim fit an Asher Racing button box?
I hope we get a dedicated video on if the buttons on the button box do work as its supposed to
Yes, they do.
@@momorious every button can be programmed to work in a race?
@@yungdadi yes of course? Why this should not work?! 🤔
@@momorious fanatec has been sneaky about the functionality of the button box
@@WhiteHawk77 on Xbox still almost nothing is working because of Xbox code limitations, that won't change. On PS4 it's up to the game devs to implement features like MPS etc.. Only on pc you can be sure that every button will work. ^^

Like nails on a chalkboard for me!
Purchased mine yesterday 🤙
it will work with Fanatec R300 wheel plate?
???
Hey man i have the same podium-porsche combo but i cannot get any good settings for ACC.
I have terrible shaking-obscillations when going straight.
Can you give me your settings?
Thanks
Hi! Is this wheel compatible only with universal hub and podium hub, or i can connect it to a thirth part hub? it s cause i have a simucube and i want this Porsche 911 gt3 cup wheel.. xd
When Fanatec brings out a push-pull rally shifter I'll grab one of those. These are great but I'm no fan of flappy paddles especially IRL.
The display doesn't work to the full extend on the 2.5 or the CSL so you have to buy their DD to use that
@@Fanatec_is_TRASH the display will work to the full extend on the CSW v2.5 but not at the moment as described in the Webshop page because a firmware update is needed which is expected later this year.
I was just wondering would buttons work but i guess no since Fanatec has not given any detailed information, thanks.
Kriss047 no, nothing works on the csw v2.5 yet.
just have to say, my newborn sleeeps like an angle when your channel is on. :) its so a win win:), only your loud intro i need to skip.
I suspect Porsche are very choosy with whom they do business so their endorsement of Fanatec products is an indication to me of how good they are. This is also a great in depth review which led me to buy the clubsport version of this wheel.
Barry French why not the Podium version with the magnetic shifter paddles?
