- On October 13, 2017, Syracuse shocked the second ranked Clemson Tigers in a Friday night showdown. The combination of a lackluster showing from the Clemson defense and a first half injury to QB Kelly Bryant led to Syracuse pulling off one of the biggest upsets of the College Football season and taking down the Tigers 27-24. Syracuse was led by QB Eric Dungey who finished the game with 278 yards and 3 touchdowns. Feel free to comment ideas for future videos. Enjoy!

Fun fact: This game was the second biggest upset in Syracuse History. What's number one you ask? In 1984 Syracuse would upset Nebraska 17-9. Nebraska came in the game as the best team in the country and predicted to crush Syracuse. After Syracuse gave up touchdown in the first quarter, the Syracuse defense stopped Nebraska's offense throughout the rest of the game. Although it was a big upset, this game is never really talked about as a big upset.

i disagree, clemson won the playoffs going 13-1. only loss being to Syracuse.
versus nebraska winning only a bowl game to end their season going 10-2.
i was at BOTH of those games... the Neb game was my brothers first game on campus as a student..... I had season tix the Clemson year, and I was about 2 beers away from running on the field when the victory formation was lined up
It's these kinds of unexpected upset games that is the reason why I love college football.

The first touchdown for Syracuse is a perfect example of why you wrap up the receiver rather than going for the big hit. 3 points turned into 7 because of that defender.

You'd think Clemson would've been able to defend that TE wheel after seeing it a BILLION times that night. Also Renfrow had a monster game that night.
I was at a high school football game when this game going on then a guy sitting in front of me say out loud that Syracuse had beat Clemson! Everyone near me and him myself included said whoa!
Syracuse is rather manic. Has the excitement of beating #2 Clemson, and the stupidity of spiking the ball on 4th down as time expires.

Eric Dungey was a DAWG. Really great college dual-threat QB. That Syracuse team had a few NFL players on the field. They had Zaire Franklin at LB. He's a captain for the Colts now. Chris Slayton was the last NFL defensive tackle Syracuse produced. He knocked Bryant out of this game. Steve Ishmael (WR) had a cup of coffee in the NFL.

Cuse played great, Clemson played ok. That’s a good kind of upset.
Cuse didn’t win another game that year making them 4-8 and not bowl eligible. Just insane to think about.
That secondary for the orange looked very small. They were certainly up for the challenge on this day.
They didn't win another game because Eric Dungey got injured. They played at Miami and at Florida State the next 2 games after beating Clemson. They damn near won both of those games. Dungey missed the rest of the season after the loss at FSU. It turned out he played that game with a broken foot and almost willed them to a win.
The next season (2018) Syracuse went 10-3 and was a 4th down stop away from beating Clemson in Death Valley. That was the season that got Dino Babers his big contract extension. Ultimately he wasn't able to sustain that level of success at Syracuse.
Clemson would end up winning the ACC Championship and securing a place in the College Football Playoff, where they would suffer a 24-6 setback in the Allstate Sugar Bowl against eventual national champion Alabama.
You should do a video about the game where Nebraska had like 8 fumbles and somehow lost to Illinois at home 9-7 or whatever the score was

I miss when upsets like this happened somewhat regularly. Now it seems like the gap between Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and everyone else is too big.

I was at this game. The biggest win in Syracuse History. Unfortunately Dungey would get injured and we would lose every game after that. Dungey really carried the team. Babers should be gone after this year.
Babers should have been gone after last year. He's shown that 2018 was a fluke and he was bailed out by talent. Which he completely failed to replace. He made a decent G5 coach at Bowling Green. But he cannot hang in the P5.

This was Clemson getting out coached.
I thought this was Clemson’s worst coaching job in years. Bryant was hobbled all game which was a very large part of that offense. Then when Bryant comes out with the game on the line, they stick a kid in. It’s funny that Cuse is given credit for being the team against Clemson, but nobody talks about two yrs in a row there were injuries at QB, and the one Clemson loses, they start a very injured limping running QB. Not so much an upset as it was attrition by default
