The only way to make money while hauling OTR is to buy your own groceries and make your own meals. If you try to survive on truck stop fare you will ruin your health while going broke.
Absolutely great point
Yep. And even still you have to get out and exercise. Gotta go for walks. Do squats
I’m a French driver in Europe and totally agree with you
I never eat in truck stops , eat healthy food and workout everyday …. It’s the only way to save a great amount of money and stay healthy

I would like so much to do trucking in the US but I don’t know how to make it to go through immigration when I know that the US is looking for so many drivers .. do you know a company who recrutes foreigners and know how to do it ?
Family!!
The chase for dollar is never ending.
R+L pays $32/hr and XPO pays $0.75/mile(driving) plus $32/hr(anything else; drop/hook/dock/prepost trip). UPS/FedEx pay $28/hr. ACT pays $0.73/mile. All of these jobs are Home Daily.
These guys are offering $24/hr? I won't even pretrip a truck for less than 25, let alone drive the damn thing. There's pizza shops I know of that pay $20/hr + tips... Companies like this is what's wrong with the industry today.
Well said
as a new trucker I think not your talking top tier pay, so your comparison isn't exactly apples to apples, but thanks for the numbers, something to keep in mind.
@@stevecuevas2033 Sure, one year experience? That's what I'm talking about and it's not that hard to achieve. Or is your point to admit that you're exploiting new drivers? Even brand new drivers, with no experience, get almost as much as my example above. I would love to work for a small fleet, and I have in the past. However, examples like this, paying minimum wage with no overtime for a 70 hour work week, is exactly what's wrong with the industry today.
@@stevecuevas2033 You also skip over the fact that a pizza delivery driver that gets any tips makes more than what you're offering.
Break the OTR drivers pay down to hourly to get a better idea of the pay difference, if any. I did that when I ran road using both the time I used in 70 hour clock then the time I left the terminal to the time I returned. Neither were good.
What amount did you end up with, after calculations?
I’m a local driver for Martin and brower, we deliver to McDonald’s home every night work 5 days a week and gross about $2200 a week
You sir are doing an amazing job keep it up
Dang! I see MB trucks every single day, I’m a regional driver in GA, thinking about going local… i’ll check MB’s web page
Is that after taxes on the paycheck
@@chiville165 that’s gross , with insurance on my family and everything I bring home about 1500 a week
@@thomasvittetoe1930 that's not bad. I'm working with two men and a truck for 5 years and I should've took CDL class to get an CDL but now I'm studying to get an permit then go to school to get CDL
Another factor. Health. Obesity, diabetes, heart condition. 3 most common health issues with long haul drivers. At one point, 62 was the average life expenstancy of a truck driver. To avoid these complications. One genetics, 1 in 5 people have diabetes, myself one of them. And need to take precautions to live a better life. Long haul not for them. 2 is stress. Inconsistent pay and expenses, and personal problems, will give some people a heart attack. Ever see an ambulance at a truck stop, or a big truck on the shoulder of the road? Or off the road? These are also factors to consider when being a long haul truck driver.
Ronen, that is an educative video again. Goooshhh you are awesome for doing this. Now I can learn more.
This makes me want go for my truck license. Thank you for the videos.
I'm local and net $1500 a week or so. When I did OTR I made about $1700 a week.
For that $200 difference I'd rather sleep in my own bed. No more dealing with waiting 2-3 hours at the border, unpaid as well. Waiting many hours at shippers and recievers. OTR is only good if you're running long haul from Toronto to Florida, Louisiana, TX etc (solo).
Regional Toronto > Chicago is BS. Might as well just be local at that point.
Which.company ?
@@yasirmohame western Pacific. Based out of BC but runs local in Toronto and Montreal.
@@MG-hk9kx how long you work per week and what was your first year pay in local trucking?
Great questions!
Really appreciate your videos Ronen . 👍🇯🇲
thank you for this awesome information!
I go otr because I hate having only a small amount of time off consecutively.
At my current company, they allow you to take months off if you’re willing to work enough time. I hear some guys stay out 9-10 months and take the rest of the year off.
Best trucking channel 👍🏻
My one and only question I ask when someone is interested in driving is what do you have in your life you could loose.
When I started career in trucking industry one of megacareers ask me about family , children and friends and explained if I want to save them - stay away from OTR. The truth is you never have enough money. To see how children grow is important moment in our lives. I don't have good examples OTR drivers with strong relationships with family, friends. At the present time, as a local WA driver, I see more beneficial to be local and pay by hours. Company very flexible with loads and I can drive 53 feet trailer or straight truck with GWV 26000 for same pay. If you really need extra money, you can work extra for weekends for different company. Just deal with management how much you cost and compare you price with job market. Don't sell yourself just for money.
7000 miles in two weeks is no cake walk, the most i every gotten in 7 days is 3000 miles.
I'm a over the road driver I stay out for a month at a time
Hi rounen.
I'm chafik I'm local driver
Based at NB.
And I love my work doesn't matter local or over the road.
Good continuation
Me and my buddy are talking about going in together on a truck I drive for a month then he drives for a month o.o. money split between two people is still pretty good and only working 6 months a year can't beat that home time
I do long haul flatbedding and make about 1800-2000 a week when I was doing local I was making about 1250. This is as a new driver less then a year exp total. I'm home weekends and if I need another day or two my company is cool about it.
Whats the company name?
Ok but what about actual time home? I work Local with 12-14hr shifts. I'm barely awake for "normal" life. and when I am awake I am showering, eating, and getting ready for work. not much a life to raise kids. IMO a good middle ground would be regional work and be home every weekend. I'm currently waiting on a response from Walmart to be a regional driver for them.
How much you earn in local and where are you from?
Those extra money from OTR goes to food and extra services OTR .Just from my 10 years OTR. I'm currently work local and after all make more!
Glad the switch was a positive one for you Denis!
Plz make video on local o/o day cab vs regional o/o thanks,
the thrill of the open road!
Hi Romen! Very good video! You helped me tremendously. One question. Is it difficult to start out with a company long haul and maybe in a year request short. I will have CDL this month and am willing to work as much as possible for about a year or 18 months.
Please what about regional that means Provence to Provence, thank you for all your help you are really doing a good job.
In the picture, you can use local drivers without beards, he he he. I'm looking for a long haul. See you there. Good info
The difference is 3000/mo between LH vs local, not 1500
What is the max age you would recruit of a driver with a clean abstract and a mechanical background?
Asking for a friend...
No overtime pay over 40 hours?
Am in between (Regional)
I tried long haul, it is not for me. Local is good, challenging docs to reverse, tight turns. you can sharpen your driving skills. And decent pay in GTA.
Working 12 hous a day 5 and a half days a week isn't worth you time. By the time you get home you have 10 maybe 11 hours before you have to get ready for work again. If you get a solid 8 your basically working to have two hours of personal time with your family every day.
Thanks for sharing
Tried to reach you out for sponsorship but the email doesn't work
Tax is crazy in Ontario compared to nb
Ronen, thank's for the video! I find the deductions to be pretty high (30-33%). Is there any return on those?
If you think thst’s high try CA on top of all the regulations
Here in quebec you pay 40%
those numbers seem pretty low, I'm guessing that's a Canada thing
In the US, Local is insurance prohibitive to 6mo-2years experience. New drivers are forced to go OTR.
Not true
@@shiftautomotive854
Well I've experienced otherwise. What region of the US is different? I haven't been able to land a local cdl job.
@@DJ-jq5rh your local construction, LTL companies, and food service have local cdl jobs for new drivers. Do you have automatic restriction on your license?
@@shiftautomotive854
With the exception of construction, those aren't CDL class A jobs. Perhaps when you entered the field, things were different. Most companies would not consider what you suggested as relative experience. Take a look on indeed.
@@DJ-jq5rh those are still considered class a experience. There's many who have gone on to other class a job after driving for food service and LTL
Last year local 120k as an employee
Impressive
I'm a local gas hauler, and I financially do better than most OTR drivers.
How much you earn in net per week and where you from?
@Unknown user I'm in Georgia, and I gross about $2000 to $2300 a week. Everyone's tax situation is different, so I tell people my gross.

Local jobs don’t have to be long hours, I like my 8-9 hours days.
Hi what about those driver who got pay in their own corporations
In Canada
It’s illegal to work as company driver under Corp
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-Newspay ot after 40 hours then, everybody is cheating
Long haul only worth it if your O/O.
So what would it be in USD?
I should clarify that is not a jab at ET that's a jab at the industry as a whole in Canada.

Long haul
