I grew up with so much good music. I got Ricky Sings for my 16th birthday. I was working and raising kids and listening to oldies on the radio and missed the whole career of these guys. I am enjoying getting to know about the Nelsons and appreciate other groups I barely knew. Matthew and Gunnar gave such a good conversation about their music. Their work ethic is off the charts.
These guys seem so down to earth and grounded considering the family and life they lived in the spotlight as famous people in Hollywood. Goes to show that the family makes a difference!
I am huge fan of Nelson brothers. Matthew and Gunnar are very talented musicians. Also, I love their music so much. And I will always be fan of Nelson brothers forever.
Two amazing humble guys, don’t act like they are better than anyone else ❤❤❤ love this album so much Only Time Will Tell is my favorite along with after the rain!!!
It's rare that you can say that an rock star from that time period comes off as a genuinely great guy - and here are two of them. The album is amazing - was then and is even better now.
Dan Reed of Dan Reed Network is a genuinely nice guy. One of the most humble human beings i've ever met. took time after playing a gig to stay around and talk, take pics, have a drink with every fan who wanted a little bit of his time. he made sure to thank everyone he spoke to.
I was a teenager of the 80s and a huge fan of many, many various artists like Prince, Guns N Roses, The Cure, Nirvana and so on including so many "hair metal bands". That record was sold in the heavy metal section BUT as a matter of fact it wasn't as heavy as ZZ Top or Billy Idol. Heard the song "After the rain" once and that was it. The next day I got the album, gave it a listen and was amazed. Still am to this day. So much talent. Thank you so much for this interview that captivated me from start to end.
I found out I am related to these guys. When this record was released, I was in the Gulf War. I to started playing at 6 years old, now I am 59 and still playing, and listening to " Nelson" All the Nelsons!
I was fortunate to meet Gunner a few months back while he was playing a charity event. A genuinely nice guy. Watched him perform an acoustic set with Mark Slaughter and Eric Martin (Mr Big) in a room of about 50 people. Felt like a 12 year old fan boy again.
I forgot how much I love both of those songs so much that I had to download them although I do have the CD… you guys are so thoughtful and well spoken and reflective on your own personal lives and the influence that that specific album had on a lot of people at the time.. your dad would be very proud!
You guys were always great musicians...now i see you have evolved into great men...your late dad is smiling down from heaven on you...that tune carried me throughout my life...and may God bless your paths
All right good thing to see and hear ,im glad to see you getting back out there and sharing your music again. And it was a honor to see you guys out in Phoenix when you did the Christmas special was great. I look forward to seeing you in your next tour or concert. Hope you get something together in Phoenix again if so ill be there!!!! Hope we can get together and talk about the old days if you remember me that is laugh out loud ...we were only like 11yrs old back then on Maholland Drive.....Look forward to seeing you back on stage and hopefully talk old times back then.
As a devoted Rick Nelson listener to this day, (sad about him being gone), I have really enjoyed the artistry of Rick's talented twins! They have followed in their fathers foot steps to the maximum and to their own magnificents. They are so talented it's just shocking the world isn't climbing over each other to get to them like the Beatles ara! These men have worked hard in every way with loving heart strings for everyone around them. Talented yet heartful for others on the way up! Great men they turned out to be and I know Rick is proud of their talented success! I'm so proud of them for the fine people they have become! The song writers, singers & the growth as Husbands & fathers they have achieved with their sweet families! They truly have worked hard in their lives & I wish them more great success going forward! So talented, I enjoy all their songs, and by the way, 'Two heads are better than one' by 'The Tools' is fun to listen too!! Everything they do is golden! I love your little blonde baby pictures - cutest kids, I Love these guys! Following you....
Yeah me too. I couldn't get their cassette in any music store, and closest one was 3 hours away. So I remember walking in the blistering heat and buying their album and walking back home to listen to it on my walkman. I still use the cassette and it still sounds great.
I loved this album, this is BIG part of the soundtrack of my life! Also, the scene in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure when they pick up Joan of Arc is classic as Ted holds out his hand and "Two Heads Are Better Than One" kicks in, so amazing! I am so glad your music became a part of my life!
I love Ricky Nelson, he was popular in my country Philippines 🇵🇭 I listen his music 1957 until now 2020 thank you Ricky Nelson I love your music amazing voice R.I.P. 🙏👍❤️😘
They put on a great show, I saw them a few years ago and I loved the tribute to their dad as well. They are very personable and took selfies with everyone during meet and greet. This is really nice to hear all of behind the scenes details and experiences they have had. They have great harmony.
I had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Gunnar and Matthew after their concert here in Oneonta NY. You and I totally feel the exact same way about everything you mentioned in the post. They are THE BEST. Certainly would love to see them return to Oneonta or somewhere close by. Oneonta is about 30 minutes from Cooperstown and the ⚾️ Hall of Fame and it is absolutely beautiful here during the autumn season. 👍🙂🙂🙂🙂
I bought this on tape ,at a time in my life when I only bought Contemporary Christian music, Amy Grant ,Russ Taff, and Phil Driscoll, just to name a few.... The Song After the Rain hit me in my heart, The line that struck me was ,"But things will never change until you want them to." Great advise, I played it over and over.....Thanks Nelson , Your words hit my heart. Oh and I Just got my new album in the mail!!!
These true talents have matured beyond expectations and I am extatic that have this venue 2 continue being a force with their music❤I am also very excited about being able 2 continue being a devoted fan🎉4EVER❣️
My Mom, actually bought me this Cassette back in the day. I was 21-22 when it came out. I grew up listening to Ricky Nelson. Watching Square Pegs ( Tracy, was in) The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet Re-runs. So, I loved this Album and I've been a Fan ever since.
After the Rain was my favorite single and Time will Tell was a cool ballad. Love and Affection was also solid. I saw these guys at the M3 Music Festival a few years ago and they were great.
The Nelson are underrated artists. They are so far better than some rock singers who cannot sing anymore now though still touring... the Nelson are very talented artists and very humble ones...
2/19/2021 7:32pm - what a trip i swear i had a nelson dream after i watched and listened to this video and fell into a nap, the dream was ~ I made a stop at this really cool store which they happened to be the owners of and the store was like a liquor store + snack bar + musical lounge cafe that had these awesome churro cinnamon like deserts and jukebox that played lots of music and Matthew or Gunnar was helping me cash out at the register and i asked him "Do you guys still play?" and he looked at me and smiled while nodding up his head 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 🎶🎼♩🎸🎙🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 im starting to listen to nelson not just because i have this crush on a person who really likes them alot but since ive been listening and paying attention more i just wanna share that before seeing this interview, their music is a real masterpiece and made a positive impact on me too such as giving me a better attitude adjustment and other cool stuff "thank you nelson brothers matthew and gunnar" 🐉 DOUBLE DRAGON 🐉
When I see them perform it's like watching Rick Nelson and Mark Harmon clones. It's great to see NELSON is still around and the album is being re-released. The LP rocked!!!
I agree. Album sequencing is key. It’s like a novel. And the tempos have to blend, peak and trough. I Love listening to these two boys. So knowledgeable and interesting. 🌸⭐️🌟🇦🇺 I have to add when I was 16 yrs old (91) I used to buy my music magazines from the Fountain Newsagent at the top of Kings Cross (other end of the Coca Cola sign) with Nelson on the covers. So that would be full circle for the song, album, band and success? 💕 and yes, the needles and night life was still vibrant.
you guys are great and i think you should reenact your original music video in the now. I think it would be a hot internet share. Get into those old 80s clothes and go for it. Enjoy it, revisit it!
I was watching, your interview " Dazed with Jordan the lion " set down. Sounds good why was the big guys slowing them down , probably because they did not kiss the corporation ring. Gunner talanted family. Thumbs up.
I was 24 when this came out and being more into a heavier bands like Ratt and Pantera who both had releases during that same time . I thought they were talented singer's & song writer's but wish they could have rocked a little harder . They had the look to go a bit more Rock and Hard rock wish they had . I give them props for writing catchy radio / chick friendly songs.
I liked them when this album came out, but how did they have no money? Their grandparents were Ozzie and Harriet and their dad was Ric Nelson. Someone please explain how they had no money.
Because back then, the record companies took all the money from ALL those bands... And they're still taking money from them all! The record execs didn't look after any of them, they just took, and took, and it's the reason alot of those musicians crashed and burned! There was no support for the musicians when they came off their high... :(
It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that they were broke. Their mom spent a lot of Ricky's money, and that was a main catalyst for their divorce. The divorce itself cost Ricky at least a million dollars. But the two were still fighting in court at least a year later, so there's no telling how much Ricky spent. They went to live with their dad as soon as they turned 18, and then not long after that, he died. What was left of his estate was split between all 4 kids.
He was in debt, which is why he was doing all these shows at the time. He didn’t even own the house they were living in. He had to pay Kristin spousal and child support. Kristin spent money like water. He had a life insurance policy worth $100,000, and each of his kids received $25,000. You will have to take that up with Gunnar Nelson, as this is what he stated.
Great interview! They have a magical vibe. Super positive guys and msg Check my patented fretboard invention🎸👌🏽 my uncle Gary Lucas played guitar and composed grace and mojo pin on Jeff Buckley record.

That line "dont be afraid to lose , what was never meant to be". That right there should be something people carry with them all the time.
Heck of an album, will never get old👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
these two are dolls!! adorable as ever and very down to earth. They love what they do....
I totally agree with you I've loved since the first time I saw them and love them still we share the same birth year
These guys seem so down to earth and grounded considering the family and life they lived in the spotlight as famous people in Hollywood. Goes to show that the family makes a difference!
Love this family.
I love these guys! Loved their dad too! Re-discovering them after all these years!
Amazing story leading to the creation of an album and beyond.

After The Rain is still one of my favorite songs of all time
I am so impressed. Not the music itself, which is great, but with both of these young men. What special human beings.
I found out I am related to these guys. When this record was released, I was in the Gulf War. I to started playing at 6 years old, now I am 59 and still playing, and listening to " Nelson" All the Nelsons!
Nice to rediscover this music.
My favourite song first time I heard. It was upbeat song while other band came up with balad song
They were so hot and damn could they sing...great voices !
I was fortunate to meet Gunner a few months back while he was playing a charity event. A genuinely nice guy. Watched him perform an acoustic set with Mark Slaughter and Eric Martin (Mr Big) in a room of about 50 people. Felt like a 12 year old fan boy again.

GUNNAR AND MATTHEW ARE AWESOME MEN AND YOUR DAD RICKY NELSON LOVES YOU FROM HEAVEN ABOVE FOREVER !!!!!!!
The brothers are great speakers. This was like a TED Talk. Kristen Wiig had some good questions too!
I forgot how much I love both of those songs so much that I had to download them although I do have the CD… you guys are so thoughtful and well spoken and reflective on your own personal lives and the influence that that specific album had on a lot of people at the time.. your dad would be very proud!

These guys took a lot flack back in the day but they are great and real musicians ... it's in their blood .
Good to see they are still making music .
I still have this original cassette from when it released!
i Miss this kinda music😢😔😪
You guys are so genuine and so very talented. Thank you for never giving up and becoming some of the greatest.
This was the first album I bought at age 12. Some of the best song writing of the entire era, and a lot of those songs still hold up today.
I have this on cassette tape , and still have it.
Yeah me too. I couldn't get their cassette in any music store, and closest one was 3 hours away. So I remember walking in the blistering heat and buying their album and walking back home to listen to it on my walkman. I still use the cassette and it still sounds great.

Amazing interview!

The Nelson are underrated artists. They are so far better than some rock singers who cannot sing anymore now though still touring... the Nelson are very talented artists and very humble ones...
You guys have got to do one of these track-by-track videos for Imaginator!
And Lightning Strikes Twice
I LOVE your acoustic version better than the original. You guys do not need all that other noise. :-)
great album, and great interview. I now understand why it was such a challenge for the boys to make a follow-up.
Great band .... i like so much... hail Nelson
This is really great to see, thank you so much for uploading it

So awesome!!
WHERE on earth could I get the track of After the Rain with the beginning instrumental?
When I see them perform it's like watching Rick Nelson and Mark Harmon clones. It's great to see NELSON is still around and the album is being re-released. The LP rocked!!!

I'm born in 94 but I really enjoy the album
Belíssimos!
AT 1:13:33 SO FUNNY I HATE WHEN I LOSE MY MOST INSIGNIFICANT BITS .. EVERY PART OF ME IS SIGNIFICANT .. HAHA SO TRUE AND SOO HILARIOUS ;)
I actually loved the intro to the song "After the Rain" from the music video and wished the album version included it.
반가워요~요즘도 After the rain 듣고 있어요^^
you guys are great and i think you should reenact your original music video in the now. I think it would be a hot internet share. Get into those old 80s clothes and go for it. Enjoy it, revisit it!
Poppa would be so proud .
Why isn't Joey Carthcart pictured on the back cover with the rest of the band ?
I was watching, your interview " Dazed with Jordan the lion " set down. Sounds good why was the big guys slowing them down , probably because they did not kiss the corporation ring. Gunner talanted family. Thumbs up.
Um...are they going to age-ever? Sheesh.Great music and hair. I could never decide which brother was hotter, lol. (Twins,i know)
29:20 wondering who the child actor they were talking about was?
Maybe Jonathan Gilbert of Little House?
NELSON is Awesome ++++++++++++++

@@ladybuggs11 I don't really believe that.

Matthew looks a lot like their sister Tracy!

“...closet Nelson fans...”
Guilty lol
Great interview! They have a magical vibe. Super positive guys and msg
Check my patented fretboard invention🎸👌🏽 my uncle Gary Lucas played guitar and composed grace and mojo pin on Jeff Buckley record.
The very talented they sing so good they have something in common with Julian Lennon
I know they are good guys,
But most of you here are probably 13,,,
When the band Nelson came out it was a laughing stock,
Two girly blonde doing pop rock.
Their father did participate to one of Richie Blackmore riff/song.
Check out Deep Purple-Black Night-Main riff was almost taken note for note from a Ricky Nelson song.
Go find it,
I missed the music all these years the Nelsons were growing.
I’m 76 and grew up with so much good music.
Enjoying getting to know these guys they are very optimistic and work ethic off the charts.
I'm sorry...... but, their eyes are a journey!! (not wanting to embarass anybody)
...in my opinion the demo version "before the rain " is much better than after the rain because john kalodner has overcoated the album!!!!!....too much!!!!
