    I tried this method for changing oil on my 2020 SQ5. I compared draining the sump to using the extractor. I started both times with the oil level at the max line. When drained, it took 7.7 quarts of oil to get the oil back to max, and I got 7.7 quarts of used oil. When I used the extractor, it took 8 quarts of oil to completely fill the sump, and I got exactly 8 quarts out. Draining leaves about 250 ml's more oil in the sump than using the extractor. It's interesting how much the design of the sump influences how much oil is left after draining.

      Interesting that you used 8 quarts when ECS on used 7.7

    • @rosslarkin6742

      @@joshsheinis5968 yeah, I was surprised, too. Maybe ECS didn't fill it to the max line or didn't wait to suck all the oil out. But that is my standard procedure now. When I extract the oil rather than drain, if I put in the 7.7 quarts, it only takes the level to about 3/4 of the way up the fill line. So every time I do an oil change now, I just extract the oil, suck the remaining oil out of the oil filter housing, put the new filter on, and add the 8 quarts at once. For some reason when you drain the oil, there is about 1/4-1/3 quart more oil left in the pan.

    Why 0w20? Is the car tuned? If yes, doesn’t need a bit thicker oil for better performance during that heat?

    Isn't there a problem with that oil pump that it leaves behind a lot of residue? Residue that leads to excess carbon build up over the years?? I wonder why they don't drain it out from the bottom after lifting it.

  • @CGMediaproductions
    @CGMediaproductions Рік тому +1

    Why didn't you drain if from the oilpan? And why didn't you put in a new drain plug?

    • @ecstuning
      @ecstuning Рік тому +5

      A lot of people don't have access to a lift, and when doing a normal maintenance item like an oil change, performing this service on the ground with jack stands every few months can become inconvenient. The oil extraction method allows you to perform this important maintenance without every lifting the car off the ground. We wanted to show that even on a performance car like the B9 S4, maintenance can be hassle free.

    Question: why does the s4 and s5 use 0W-20 while rs5 uses 0W-40??? I’ve also seen b9s use 5W-40. What would you recommend? I feel like 0W-20 is way too light

      @@erwinvanriel5843Pretty stupid to go against the manufacturer specified oil. AE839 suffer from low speed pre ignition which will destroy your engine if you don’t warm it up properly. Thick oil cold gets past those flimsy piston rings and will ignite under high loading when cold. Why take a chance? RS5 and S5 are two different engines that don’t have the same tolerances so your comparing apples to oranges. Just change your oil every 3K and with manufacturer recommended oil and don’t thrash on it until your at operating temp.

      Not stupid. That 0w20 is only a emission thing. Ok and a little bit to prevent lspi. You know what lspi is ?
