For anyone that played the Pillars games they would know that the Living Lands are all bright and colorful, so the art style matches the descriptions from the those games.
Yeah I don't really get the complaints about the graphics. I for one am happy to see a unique artstyle here cause it bugs the hell out of me that gamers say "Oh the graphics suck" if it doesn't look like Red Dead Redemption 2. People will say the same thing with Nintendo games when the artstyle looks beautiful like in the latest Zelda and Mario games.
Facts.. plus we have enough real life graphical type games.. people so slow that they don't understand that just because a game is a different art style than realistic art style doesn't mean the graphics are 🗑.. that's like calling Zelda:Tears of the Kingdom graphics 🗑 because it doesn't have realistic graphics.. people just slow as a turtle & plus most of my favorite games don't even have a realistic art style 💀
I played the first one I didn't play the second one but what I remember is the lighting was somewhat inverted with darkness creeping into the light rather than a very bright atheistic. This doesn't look anything like how I remember the atmosphere, I remember DISTINCT light but not abundant. The reveal trailer reminded me very much of the beginning of the first game.
Yes I was a big fan of the target CGI reveal but I like when devs go Full-Art on fantasy games color theory can work wonders on exploration and level design
The interesting part is how opinions can vary. I was hesitant about Avowed and yet it is my most anticipated game of 24'. The trailer got me more excited with the combat and the promise of meaningful quest decisions where there sometimes won't be a "Win" at the end, I really miss that in Rpgs
@@dreamsofcosmicoceans8105. Yeah and when we look at classic AAA Rpgs like Mass Effect Trilogy, Dragon Age Origins, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and many others, it is a huge loss. AAA RPGS became "One giant playthrough with little consequences". Starfield was the biggest offender yet in that regard. I don't see myself ever replaying it as I wrap up 100% and dive into the dlc. There just is no reason to replay it outside of achievements
@@Deadsea_1993 yep. And in order to get writing like that, you look to indie companies. Even mid CRPGs like Torment: Tides of Numenera blows Starfield out of the water with its writing and decision making. I really really hope that BG3 serves as a window to get players demanding more from their games and I don't expect every game to be 300 plus hours with that much depth, I just want companies to start putting in more effort with the writing and not price gouging the consumers on day one.
This game should be setting off a lot of red flags for people. There's a lot of concerns with the RPG mechanics and dialogue in the game because of how Obsidian has chosen to present the game. What they showed was not to impress Deadfire fans given the majority opinions there list the same concerns with the leveling and customization options. This game is very similar to The Outer Worlds in how small the scope will be, especially if the developers are using it as a point of comparison. We need to see more of those RPG systems they just talked about by Summer Games Fest or else the opinion on the game will sour significantly
I'm just hoping it is a more refined Outer Worlds experience and it should be with this unlimited budget and time while OW was a AA game on a limited budget and development cycle. Obsidian will have no excuses here if this game fails. I found The Outer Worlds disappointing because of how barren the world was and how boring the combat was. The writing however was very exciting in a number of quests. If Obsidian can bring that writing back while making the linear world feel alive, then Avowed could be very exciting
I find it super odd that people took that pre-rendered cinematic announcement trailer to heart so much. You hardly see any of the world in that thing. You see what, arrows flying through the air on a cloudy day and then you're an underground dungeon, that's not the whole world presented there clearly. Did people expect you to be in an underground dungeon throughout the game or it always be constantly raining with dark clouds? I am not entirely sure why the people expect every region in the Living Lands to be gloomy. Bit weird to me.
I'm super anxious to play this game, thanks for the update! When I fell in love with Bethesda's RPGs, it was with Oblivion, the freedom of choice that the player has in its RPGs is impressive! You can start as a bandit, become a wizard, assassin, sword and shield warrior, two-handed weapon warrior and so on! Your character improves according to what you do and you can change your playing style at any time (stealth, blowing up people or solving problems using dialogue)! You have complete freedom to do whatever you want and very few RPG games give you that possibility. I hope Avowed is the same way in terms of skills and abilities. I loved Pillars of Eternity, but just imagining having a bit of Skyrim's freedom for skills, habilities and combat in the world of PoE makes me very excited to play this game...
The game seems good, but it definitely is not an Elder Scrolls killer. It just seems like Obsidian doing things at their own scope and budget. Not gonna be a bad game, but yeah it's not very AMBITIOUS!
@@MerrillDragonAge Because honestly I feel people would rather want Obsidian to have their hands on a bethesda property. Also because it's first person fantasy RPG game with dialogue options XD
@@bebo2629 Yeah! but the sacrifices of obsidian doing a smaller game is getting to people. I would like the game, but it is a bummer I can't play as an argonian or something.
@@MerrillDragonAge. Because a few years ago Obsidian said it would be their answer to Skyrim. This looks like a fun RPG and I already hate when people pit Obsidian and Bethesda against each other, especially in the Fallout community. I enjoy and love both. The fact that this game and Elder Scrolls 6 will both be on Gamepass indefinitely is a W in my book
Class trees are awesome in my book! Respect for sure! I am stoked for this! I want them to make an awesome game & release it when it is ready not before! I really hope they have magic spells & not have all magic locked into the wands!
They already have rewritten the formula. No race selection (white bread or whiter bread), no classes, companions are mandatory and bots to boot, and in one of the interviews they said all the abilities, yours and companions, are tied to the same button. At this point Avowed feels like a tech demo for the soul of the future of Eora games, and it'd honestly be a huge relief to me if it failed.
I'm still incredibly disappointed with the switch in art style. The original teaser showcased a dark/realistic type of environment, but now they seemed to have abandoned that in favor of a more whimsical cartoony MMO type of art style with little blood and impact from combat.
It's funny they're emphasizing the melee and impact of it in Avowed when that's one of the main complaints shared by a large amount of people. Trust me, when combat has impact you can see it. This is also an area they've had issues before.
Avowed is going to have problems, and it's 1,000% Obsidian's fault. They've alienated their original CRPG fans. Then they got people excited by selling the idea that Avowed was going to be Obsidian's take on Skyrim. That's not happening. And now we're going through the third and final blunder. They're trying to sell their scaled-back, unambitious action RPG as a traditional Obsidian game. And I ask you, who is making that traditional Obsidian game, Carrie Patel and some bald guy? These aren't the people that made the Obsidian games you love. They're bench warmers forced to play in the big game. They'll deliver something good enough for Game Pass.
I actually appreciate and respect that the game isn’t that big and that they aren’t trying to shoehorn features in if they don’t think they can do them justice. A game that’s 6-10 hours that’s fun and engaging from start to finish is worth a hundred, hundred hour long games that overstay their welcome.
As far as Scope in Avowed I've seen devs remark that they've purposefully undersold it but I personally think Avowed will be in the 35-45 hr mark 55 to 100% Paramo said its Open zone with the areas being similar to OW2s Larger areas my opinion aside 20 to 30 hours is perfect for an FPF RPG like Avowed
It's fair to say that Obsidian is making every attempt to distance itself from Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2 and are focusing on a wider market. There is definitely overlap in the new target audience with CRPGs and games like Skryim, but it won't please everyone. I feel for people who really are going to miss the deeper RPG mechanics that were present in Pillars, such as the classes and the types of abilities that make sense in CRPGs that would never work in a game like Skyrim, or the deep party-based system and tactical gameplay. But after Pillars 2 and Tyranny had trouble making their money back, this approach from Obsidian is not surprising. They are basically trying to salvage all the Lore work done in the Pillars franchise without gutting it completely. And if this doesn't work, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they take on Fallout.
I've 100%ed + dlc every Fallout game and I am close to 100% in Starfield. I'm most excited for this game when it comes to the quests that will have hard decisions to make. I've found as time has gone on that this is something that is lacking in most Rpgs and it is basically non existent in Starfield. Every named Npc is essential in that game and NG+ removes every decision you've made in the game anyway for a fresh start and so you are forced to play in a certain way. I miss dynamic decisions in Rpgs like The Ghoul situation at Tenpenny Tower in F3 or how you could have multiple ways to get the key from President Dave at The Republic Of Dave in F3. Like even rigging the vote to get him to lose to force him out to isolate him to kill him to get his fort key or wait and see which wildlife would kill him to take the key without losing Karma.
Sucked that we couldn't romance Ellie and other companions in The Outer Worlds, so it's kinda disappointing they still decided to not include romance in Avowed.
Well, that was a bit lazy on their part! It is like in Starfield, where there are side quests only for some of the Constellation companions and not a single one side quest for the other secundary companions that we encounter doing quest on other planets! This was a huge disappointment for me in Starfield, as the side quests for Tes and Fallout's companions were some of the most fun and iconic in those franchises! Vasco, for example, doesn't have any side quests, despite being one of the most original followers... 🤗
Remember how much hype outer worlds had, how it was gonna be a bethesda killer, and then released as a shallow imitation? Yea, thats gonna happen again right here. Old obsidian is dead and has been for years
Apples and oranges comparison. The Outer Worlds had a limited budget as a AA game and the development cycle was chaotic with crunch being extremely common. That's why the world and combat felt "Off". This game is a AAA game with an unlimited budget and it was given unlimited time to get out to the public. This game will be a defining moment for Obsidian and whether that is good or bad remains to be seen. I hope the game succeeds. If it fails, it will absolutely have all hype and faith in The Outer Worlds 2 removed
tbh the only decent game Obsidian made recently was FONV and even then its because they happened to have people who worked on the older games there, if there were no ex-Black Isles Studios employees then NV wouldnt have been that good tbh, the only reason it was good is because said employees were there. Obsidian dont have the best track record so far with making their own IP's
@@GenericUsername-qp1ww FONV was 13 years ago dude. They made plenty of decent games over the past decade. I we just going to ignore games like Pentiment, Pillars of Eternity 2, or South Park Stick of Truth? Go check the metascore each game and stop ridding the wang of a game that came out a long time ago.
@regulator18E Not only you have bad taste in games, but you delusional in thinking you know how good the game is going to be when it releases. Talk about a mentally ill troll.
Baldur's Gate 3 isn't without flaws such as complaints about a lack of a proper tutorial and how awful the dice rolls can be. This game will be First Person and so it is an apples and oranges comparison.
I’m more than fine with the game being smaller as long as it is deeper and more rewarding and the writing is solid. But already hearing that romance, a component that goes a long way towards getting the player emotionally invested and allows for the quieter more intimate and emotional quests and conversations, just won’t be in the game definitely makes me feel like they’re just not chasing every possible avenue to help the player care and feel like a true part of the world. I’m not saying romance is a must, but for a smaller experience it would’ve went a long way. I felt that a lack of romance really hurt the outer worlds and I feel that it’s gonna be the same case here. But as long as the writing is solid and they can clean up the animations even a little bit, I have hope for Avowed.
Most people complaining about the art direction of Avowed haven't played any of the POE games. Dead fire especially were very bright and colorful and even the original POE had splashes i very vibrant colors. Most just see first person melee fantasy and think Skyrim (note not the elder scrolls). Most people haven't even play oblivion or morrowind which where actually very colorful games for their times. So people just associate TES with skyrim and think all the games in that series just have a dark color palette. Which the only reason it has a dark color palette is because it in Tamriel which was in spire by medieval nordic cultures.
@@kyriosmalaka2312 that was in terms of level design and having a massive open world. And changes it to a smaller open zone level design. Nothing in their mentioned art direction.
@@MrUploader14 Feargus Urquhart didn't put caveats in that statement. I'll keep it simple for you. Obsidan's marketing changed. Lots of people didn't like what they saw in one way or many ways. And all of that is on Obsidian..
Yeah it looked better than the other trailer, but the animations still look really stiff and ill echo what others have said: the combat looks like a VR game, it was just a bit odd.
I think they're only using 100 people because Microsoft wants to fill game pass yearly. So Obsidian told them they can produce a game every year. It was reported that 80 people on Avowed, 80 on The Outer Worlds 2, 80 on a unannounced RPG , 30 on Grounded, 10 on Pentiment but the Grounded and Pentiment teams probably moved on by now. I guess they're trying to prove their worth to Microsoft and then expand. You would think after Microsoft purchased them that they would expand to about 500-600 so they could move from AA to AAA. Starfield had like 450 people on it but Todd has history of selling 50m + so he can get whatever budget he wants. I don't think Obsidian has any game that sold over 10m
err no. People need to stop claiming a game will be 'great' because its made by a certain game dev. This is the same issue CP2077 has, that game has way more problems that go far beyond the bugs which cannot be patched yet people were running around running doing damage control basically saying "its made by CDPR, its good!!" basically holding a dev on a pedestal and not being critical of the game enough. as someone whose been a fan of Larian Studios since DoS 2 when BG3 was announced I didnt automatically go "it'll be made by Larian so it'll be amazing" as I waited to play it and ofc BG3 was amazing. Judging a game to be good before release is a VERY dangerous thing to do
@@GenericUsername-qp1ww I understand your sentiment and have the same hesitations with every other developer except except Obsidian, I will happily eat crow if this is not the case but I have yet to be disappointed by any of their works
@@chrispoints4554 "and have the same hesitations with every other developer except except Obsidian" this is the same attitude the CDPR fans have tho, replace Obsidian with CDPR. You should treat ALL game devs like you would treat any other company out there. Be aware they are not your freinds and only care about money and dont go around running damage control for them if Avowed turns out to be a massive dissapointment like CP2077 was.
@GenericUsername-qp1ww I'm fully aware hence "I will eat crow" I also played the first two witchers so comparing CDPR to Obsidian is still apples to oranges. Obsidian has an impeccable track record, my only hesitation is they've been picked up by Microsoft now, but until they do me wrong I'm still fully team Obsidian. Being you're talking to polisci/economics major I'm very keen to the ins and outs of capitalism lol
From what I saw in the recent showing I'm very excited for Avowed. It seems like combat may need some cleaning up, but they are going for a Skyrim like feel for combat so maybe it is supposed to feel a little clunky.
Honestly the combat here looked really engaging and something I've not seen in awhile. Combat has been stagnating in a lot of games and yet the combat here really got me excited with the quick draw loadouts
I feel like Bethesda got weird after FO: New Vegas was a hit and wouldn't let Obsidian touch their IPs anymore. So they were like we'll make our own Skyrim... with blackjack and hookers!
I found the Avowed attack animations to be slow. I guess it looked a bit like Skyrim's combat, but somehow slower?... of course i could be wrong. of course, in these games the story is the most important experience and we don't have much information about it.... in these games, either the story or the systems must be solid. I want to be optimistic, but something deep inside tells me to wait and see what happens. as for the graphics, I usually don't care about it in games, but nothing really unprecedented, the faces of the characters looked a bit stiff. (perhaps). the fact that the player character can only be an elf or a human is personally disappointing. in the world where the game takes place, there would have been such interesting races that would have been fun to play. what about the systems, what we've seen so far, they're not really anything new, we've seen them since the days of Skyrim or Mass Effect... and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as the systems work properly and are "strong" in their own way, and if the story is good, then there is no problem. so we've seen good things and "not so good", but we'll see. I'm looking forward to its release so I can experience it myself. + the fact that it's not a purely open world game is disappointing for (Me), I personally like them more, I know of course that open zones offer the opportunity to see a wider selection of areas, but to me most of those games feel somewhat "fragmented"... I don't know science fiction games it doesn't bother me, but in fantasy it's not my favorite thing. + no romance option, it's a disappointment of course, maybe not the biggest loss but still a disappointment nonetheless. + it seems that Obsidian is not yet ready to take a risk and make a game that would really be AAA level, of course I don't care about that term...("AAA") but it would have been nice to see them try to do something in the same scale as Skyrim. .... but at the same time they made a Fallout game once... it wasn't that small. and they did it in a very short time frame.... so what's stopping them from doing the same? (of course I know that there aren't many of the people who made that game left in Obsidian's ranks) + wasn't the team that made Skyrim roughly 100 people as well? Great Video ! have a nice day!
Why is it every game is 1st person, like good lord for an rpg where i love customizing the look of my char 1st person just ruins that...here's hoping we get mods to add it.
i actually don't mind the no romance thing in avowed. i'm actually glad there won't be any. pillars of eternity 1 was just fine without romance and didn't make me care less about the companions - in fact, having no romance just fit that particular story really well. on the other hand the romance in pillars of eternity 2 was... there for the sake of having the option. tbh, i'd rather see no romance than a repeat of deadfire
Personally I couldn't really get into the the Fallout games (at least the ones since 3.) The Outer Worlds however? I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Hearing this is going to follow that route is a nice change of pace from all of the open world games we have been getting. That all said, I always view games with a grain of salt. I still want to see more of the game.
My excitement for Avowed has stayed consistent. I'm playing day one on gamepass and giving it an open mind. I played pillars and the top down view isn't for me, but it's not a bad game.
Absolutely. I actually like the combat and I hope to see what the quests are like. I'm also happy it is coming to Gamepass since I bought my wife Tekken 8 on Ps5 digitally two days before release and I plan on getting Dragon's Dogma 2 on Xbox Series X on Day 1. I've also bought a hell of a lot last year for both consoles and so I want to ease up. Avowed on Gamepass will save me $70. The only game I want to buy next year is Gta 6 for both consoles Day 1 for my wife and I. I will then work on the backlog and quit adding onto it lmao. I've been excited for Avowed for a few years now. Now I just need State of Decay 3 and I'll be set 😂
This game seems to be taking a more pragmatic approach then most, romance in RPG's always felt arbitrary, like it's just another side-quest to do because they are side characters in a video game, I've always treated romance options as part of a to-do list during a playthrough.
@@nonyabusiness-f9e. Every Xbox team made game will be coming to Gamepass. Otherwise I'd be extremely hesitant about this game. I'm really excited for it and yet it isn't a proven thing as this is even a new take on the Pillars franchise
I mostly like the news, speacilly the part about Fatshark, because their 1st person melee system is indeed second to none, but I don't know about the fact you can't micromanage companions - I do prefer them to be autonomous but ME had the CHOICE to issue commands and this was invaluable in the hardest fight in the highest dificulties, and individuals CAN follow orders. I'd prefer if they had AI but you could give orders if you want. No romance is AMAZING, I'm SO TIRED the focus and low quality of romance in MOST games (I think the only game where I like it is CP2077), this is overdone and mostly used to create shock and news for games and I just don't want to deal with it anymore.
Theyre waffling about the 1st person limitations. Companions not leaving because of your choices is a huge red flag. And bro, i respect your work rate, but you have not one critical bone in your body. Are you trying to get sponsored?
Yeah that kind of worries Me that they said that no matter what that companions will stay with us. It was confusing when Lone mentioned New Vegas. Like what ? Companions there definitely would leave you if you went against their beliefs. Cass, Boone, and Arcade would leave if you helped Caesar. Arcade would leave if you used Archamedes to destroy the NCR at Helios One, etc. That's just a few examples. It makes me worry that we won't have as much freedom to act as we want to as what they are telling us. It is crazy that in 2024, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas still have unmatched freedom to play how you want to compared to most Rpgs, especially Starfield.
@@Deadsea_1993 Even in Skyrim and Fallput 4, companions would leave if you went too far. Their comment about Companions has actually made it clear that this won't be a high lvl rpg in terms of player choice and freedom. This will be a glorified adventure game with some rpg mechanics.
People forget Lone was one of the OG HAM radio podcast members and literally left the podcast because he got hired by Bethesda and was afraid he couldn't talk about the games industry anymore. Dude is a huge shill
@@nonameddog "valid criticism on what we've seen and heard" lmao, the validity has already been cemented months before launch? Seems like you need to find interest in other games then.
The game will be on Gamepass and so I see it actually doing fairly well compared to if it was releasing for $70 as the only way to play it. Obviously more people are going to be more familiar with The Elder Scrolls compared to Pillars Of Eternity because everyone and their grandma knows about Skyrim at this point and it has become a meme with how much Todd has re-released Skyrim on everything including a Switch since release. "16X The Dungeons". With this being an Obsidian title and it being on Gamepass, I see a lot of people trying it out. It will also release months after Hellblade 2 and so it won't really conflict with that one since that game is a heavily hyped Xbox title for 2024.

They always make incredible games but Xbox should expand that studio and give them the budget to make next gen looking games. Especially for a studio that doesn’t miss when it comes to making games. Xbox is sitting on a lot of potential with this studio.
Obsidian had 100 devs in 2018 when Xbox bought them.. They have 300+ today working on multiple games in different teams.. Also this comment and if they actually did so, would probably kill Obsidian.. Expanding kills culture and teams.. Bethesda Maryland started to fall once they chose to expand.. When people don't feel "integral" to the project alot of times key members will go to where they do feel that way..
Microsoft already has given them an unlimited budget and unlimited time to make this game. The graphics looking like this is intentional because the world of Pillars is bright and colorful. The artstyle is influenced by 1980's Dungeons and Dragons with a modern style infused there.
I've never played a game where the romance didn't feel tacked on with an optional "hey baby." flirt line. It makes sense that they didn't wanna go that route or put effort into a deeper romance mechanic if it was proving too difficult.
Actually I'm fine with it not being a huge open world if the writing and quest design is good. If this is similar to classic Dragon's Age, count me in. Not every game has to be an open world and I'm sort of fatigued on this anyway. Like even Halo and Gears of War have tried their hand at open worlds amongst many others now. Only a few people like Rockstar and Bethesda can make compelling open worlds anyway
@@Deadsea_1993 Similar to "classic Dragon Age"? Not a chance! Everything Lone just mentioned - no companion opinion points and romance. Also there only 2 race to play from - human and elf. I really doubt there's an origin story to choose from. Fat chance there's going to be anything similar to a "classic Dragon Age". Obsidian should really take a cue from one of their most popular games - Fallout New Vegas - and make it open world! I would have LOVED to have seen an Eora open world. Obsidian truly dropped the soap.
Having so many letdowns with games in my life I tend to stay in the middle and not get sucked into the hype train or the mudslinging. You can't tell how melee feels unless you are the one hitting the button or moving out of the way. Every first-person game looks this way when you aren't the one playing. I don't mind no pacifist runs. An example of one of my favorite games that you couldn't be a pacifist in was The Witcher 3. Having moments that you can figure out a way to not fight makes them more special than just "negotiating" your way through an entire game. I will say that you do need objectively evil or good decisions in order to have grey ones as well. Romances are a pain at times, look at BG3 even with all they had there people still wanted more and more and more from it. My only issue with the Outer Worlds was how wooden the interactions felt with NPCs. I do think some of these companies really need to work on how their NPCs are written and voiced so they don't have the "I'm reading this from a script" way of talking.
Really, i agree with you! I was very upset in Outer Worlds because of the interactions in wich there were no more options to resolve certain disputes, when they could have had one option or another that would make more sense to please everyone involved in the quests!
I was not expecting avowed to be big ever, I was only expecting it to be a more comical approach to Bethesda games, pretty much Outer Worlds but with swords and magic. Not a huge game, worth at least 1 play through enjoyable and done after like 30-60 hours doing everything. 1 take away though is I want them to improve upon the combat systems that Bethesda created and really put Bethesda to shame in that specific aspect, if they can improve enemy AI/movement, and character combat/melee/movements that'll have the resources to elevate all their games to the next level moving forward.
my personal BIGGEST thing to tell people (IF YOU PLAYED WOW LOOK) Druids are not what you expect them to be they are near Were-like Creature Hybrid shifters and they are TERRIFING!!!
As a mega-fan of Warhammer 40k Darktide and Vermintide I can say right now, the combat looks NOTHING like those two games. The combat in Avowed looks no better than the initial gameplay reveal from a year ago, which already looked outdated and closer to Elder Scrolls Oblivion's combat much less Skyrim. The animations look bad and few and far between. IF they actually do accomplish what they're describing it will be a major win though.
I won’t be playing it as of now because the enemy AI look to easy to fight against aka boring. The combat looks clunky. The teaser trailer for the game had me. The direction change though, completely lost me. I really disliked the out worlds as well. Tried and uninstalled after the first 1-2 missions.
I sometimes feel like the inability to respec is an excuse to artificially inflate game time, because if you want to try a new build you have to start all over again
Seems like an interesting game. And, I like the Obsidian games I’ve played. But, as PS player that is not possible anymore, so everything they and Bethesda develop is meh to me.
@@Juan_Dominguez Indeed, I was so hyped, now I'm not, Not open world, no romance, no spells on hand is just wands, companions don't say their option on matters like fallout 4 and etc. I'm really not liking this game any more.
@@The_Gent. I respectfully have to disagree with OP. Who is to say that there won't be an option to use both ? We could already use Dragon Language and Mage staff weapons in Skyrim. This game might be similar with wands just being more concentrated magical weapons.
Yes it is! PoE have excelent options to play as stealth, close range (dagger, sword, axe, spear, great sword, great axe, pike, etc...), long range (wands, stafs, guns, arrows and crossbows), magic casters, chanters and sumoners, then Avowed must come with some nice options to any kind of play style!
No classes, only can play as a human or elf, are forced to take companions on quests which will probably make stealth really hard, and no romances. I don't think this game will be very good.
I loved the way that companions worked in the Outer Worlds. The way that they interacted with each other and with the environment. Absolutely fantastic. Playing without companions felt like you were missing out. I hope that they can make them feel just as alive. I think that Obsidian has been honest about the scale of the game. They've never pretended that it was the biggest world ever. If people have made wild assumptions based on the graphics of a trailer, well, frankly, that's on them. I don't feel deceived at all. I can understand hoping for the next Skyrim, but it's been a dozen years and still no "next Skyrim". It's hard to do a good game with the scope of Skyrim. Let's be honest, Skyrim sacrificed a lot of quality to get their scope. The modders added a lot of the quality.
Yeah especially in most Rpgs. You do a few favors for them and they fall in love with you. I did like the approach in Dragon Age and Mass Effect where you had to get to know them before they committed to you. It is like I didn't like the romance options in Starfield because the lack of options and how cringe both of the options as a straight character are. One is an older woman that is strict and depressing. The other is a psycho that was raised by a cult and she wants to give you a knife where she killed an animal with it as a little girl. It is like wtf ? The Romance options weren't Stellar in Fallout 4 either, but at least you had Piper or McCready.
@@MerrillDragonAge. Inquisition killed that franchise with how bad it was. Dragon Age 2 gets a lot of undeserved hate. Tbh, Bioware have gone downhill badly for 10 years now. They nearly killed Mass Effect too with Andromeda until they Remastered the OG Mass Effect Trilogy with all of the dlc.
I *love* the fact that they aren't doing romance options. I HATE romance options in RPGs. Playing through Baldur's Gate 3 and all I want to do is get to know my companions and the game keeps trying to get me to fuck them. It's disgusting.

There is a 25 min interview with the developers from Avowed on the Xbox Podcast.. Maybe you should react to it 🤔🤔🫡🫡 21:00 the obsession with having ROMANCE in every game is wild.. Most dudes in the comment section haven't ROMANCED the girl in their own friend group 😳😳😳😜😜😜.. 007 didn't get the girl every damn mission... geez.. Let it go.. Do a mission, Go HOME lol... 😂😂🤣🤣
We love Pillars of Eternity 2 in 4k HDR ultra on PC but NEVER FIRST PERSON never first person RPGs, when someone from Baldur's Gate 2 like perfect party based game fall so low on Bethesda like clumsy games it is stagnation it is shame and even in Bethesda's games we can switch to third person, why Obsidian why so low we want third person or isometric RPGs never first person never
I don't need another digital girlfriend. Im playing for the game not some weird shit that makes me feel im romantically involved with an NPC. Y'all are reaching...and it's weird. I wasnt even comfortable with how Sarah talks to me in starfield sometimes. It's weird. 😂😂
I *stongly* disagree with people that think not being able to respec your skills is more immersive. In real life we can respec our skills. We do that by practicising new skills and neglecting to practice old skills. So, if anything, being able to respec is more immersive because it more closely matches real life.
@@regulator18E No because I said, " *More closely* matches real life." I did not say, "Exactly like real life". Your reply only makes sense if I had said the latter not the former. But I didn't. To be able to forget skills and learn new skills is *closer* to real life than being unable to do so at all. More importantly fiction does not have to be exactly like real life to be immersive. Only representative. There is the term "suspension of disbelief" for a reason. People that get so caught up in "immersion" such that it has to be exactly (or even almost exactly) like real life forget about that, which is a shame, because it is a necessity when dealing with any and all fiction. They rob themselves of a lot of pleasure by ignoring suspension of disbelief or applying it very selectively. EDIT: Fixed an error with bold not being applied and fixed a typo.
The world of Avowed is supposed to be a bright and colorful world at a glance and yet it is very dark and depressing underneath the surface. I believe people are being way too judgemental here. I liked a lot of parts with The Outer Worlds such as the writing and the quests. The world and combat was very boring with shooting a pirate or alien every so often. If Avowed can remedy that with the gameplay while bringing the writing to the table, then this could be a very good Rpg. It will be on Gamepass and so there's very little risk. Try it and if you don't like it then delete it.
I doubt it will flop considering even Starfield has good player numbers overall on PC, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. There aren't a lot of AAA Rpgs dropping in 2024 other than this one and Dragons Dogma 2. The advantage over Avowed compared to Dogma 2 is that this will be on Gamepass while Dogma 2 will be $70 full price. There's no way this will fail as bad as Redfall. One of the latest updates last year had only 30 people playing worldwide. Like that's 70-80 less people than the amount of people that were playing Halo 2 on OG Xbox Live in 2010. 30 people worldwide is only slightly better than an old MP game mode to a game that is absolutely dead. I don't see Avowed messing up that bad.
@@Deadsea_1993 good points. I’m just holding my breath after the Outer Worlds - which was too short and shallow, and nowhere near as good as New Vegas or Kotor 2 (even in its unfinished state). Seems like every studio that gets acquired to become 1P in Microsoft Studios becomes worse than when they were 3rd party/independent.
Yeah that's a good point. That's a huge complaint with Baldur's Gate 3 is how you try to be friends with companions and are like "How was your day ?" And they are already getting undressed. The speed run apparently of romancing and bedding a companion is like 2 minutes and it is absolutely ridiculous. Very few devs can pull off romance options such as Old School Bioware with the Mass Effect Trilogy and Dragon Age games. I found it laughable in Starfield and it was only OK with barely passing the minimum in Fallout 4.
I hope there will be a Starfield mod so one wrong step and your companions won't want to ditch you. Don't have a problem with no romance, which was fine in Outer Worlds, it just has gotten to be a big headache. I remember ME Andromeda having lots of problems at release, and they came out with a patch...that added a gay romance option to a character. 🙄
The romance they had in BG3 was really silly so I'd be fine if they did not include that lol. You can romance a bear and an alien squid. These things did not make BG3 a better game. Probably made them worse
This game is gonna be WOKE. The first trailer we saw looked like a badass dark fantasy game. Looked badass. Then we get the reveal and it looks like a letter mafia person vomitted their flag into the game. Looks cartooney way too bright and colorful. Just like the indiana jones game. "Were updating for a modern audience" we all know what that means. Also, just like the witcher remakes! Wokeness is taking over our video games and we need to boycott these fools so they learn a lesson. That we dont want/need politics in our video games. Stop pushing an agenda in video games. Its getting REALLY OLD
too many freeing combat options, so seems like no build will have any weaknesses. Just swap to a loadout for each situation and blitz through it. Free respec is fine, i love that at least.
Me as well!!!
Facts.. plus we have enough real life graphical type games.. people so slow that they don't understand that just because a game is a different art style than realistic art style doesn't mean the graphics are 🗑.. that's like calling Zelda:Tears of the Kingdom graphics 🗑 because it doesn't have realistic graphics.. people just slow as a turtle & plus most of my favorite games don't even have a realistic art style 💀
I'm still super excited to try the game out, thanks for the update Lone!
thank you for watching mate!
The interesting part is how opinions can vary. I was hesitant about Avowed and yet it is my most anticipated game of 24'. The trailer got me more excited with the combat and the promise of meaningful quest decisions where there sometimes won't be a "Win" at the end, I really miss that in Rpgs
It never went away, though. It's just absent in AAA RPG's.
No classes? No pacifism? No romance? No hype.
If Obsidian can bring that writing back while making the linear world feel alive, then Avowed could be very exciting
that's fair enough, good points
I am digging it. Really looking forward to a new good RPG.
hell yeah
They need third person mode, outer worlds suffered a bit from no third person
Another great video. I’m looking forward to playing avowed. I’ve been playing through POE for the first time and I really like the setting and story
thanks man
KOTOR nailed the companion system. Do that
I find it super odd that people took that pre-rendered cinematic announcement trailer to heart so much.
Game pass is like Netflix movies man
I'm super anxious to play this game, thanks for the update!
I loved Pillars of Eternity, but just imagining having a bit of Skyrim's freedom for skills, habilities and combat in the world of PoE makes me very excited to play this game...
the circles that appear when you attack makes me think of a mobile game.
The game seems good, but it definitely is not an Elder Scrolls killer. It just seems like Obsidian doing things at their own scope and budget. Not gonna be a bad game, but yeah it's not very AMBITIOUS!
I don't know why it's getting compared to Skyrim
Not every RPG needs to be as big as litteraly the biggest RPG Of all time...
I really hope they have magic spells & not have all magic locked into the wands!
oh great point! from what i saw, i believe magic also exists outside off wands too
I'm a huge Pillars of Eternity fan and I hate the current direction this game's going in.
All I'm hoping for is for it to be pillars in first person. They don't need to re-write the formula too much beyond that.
Hey man, I appreciate all your videos!
Great video mate
@@Deadsea_1993 lmao ok fanboy
tbh the only decent game Obsidian made recently was FONV and even then its because they happened to have people who worked on the older games there, if there were no ex-Black Isles Studios employees then NV wouldnt have been that good tbh, the only reason it was good is because said employees were there.
Im all in.. I'll always give Obsidian a chance.
After baldurs gate 3 success, I don't think people want a dumbed down version of a crpg. Lol
Baldur's Gate 3 isn't without flaws such as complaints about a lack of a proper tutorial and how awful the dice rolls can be. This game will be First Person and so it is an apples and oranges comparison.
This game is not a crpg. Do all RPGs need to be CRPGs now?
Obsidian has had a boner for first-person games since Outer Wrolds. Really tired of this trend. Why am I designing a character I'm never going to see?
I LOVED The Outer Worlds. This is the game I am the most excited for this year.,
Me too!!! I loved the first one. I’ve probably played it through 3 times now.
The Outer Worlds zoned gameplay was off-putting. The no mod support when they talked about it was the biggest disappointment.
"Originally we were pitching, in essence, our Skyrim," confirms Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart in an exclusive interview with PC Gamer.
Avowed is an Obsidian game ergo it will be amazing
Horrible mentality
Its supposed to feel shit? what?
Honestly the combat here looked really engaging and something I've not seen in awhile. Combat has been stagnating in a lot of games and yet the combat here really got me excited with the quick draw loadouts
Skyrims combat is garbage, dunno how being bad is a suppose to be a style choice (I’m still excited for Avowed tho)
I feel like Bethesda got weird after FO: New Vegas was a hit and wouldn't let Obsidian touch their IPs anymore. So they were like we'll make our own Skyrim... with blackjack and hookers!
I’m just worried it’s going to end up as shallow and mediocre as the Outer Worlds.
I could be wrong, but wasn’t Skyrim made by like 100 people?
Pretty sure Bethesda stayed around that size until after Fallout 4 even.
We are talking about today's standards though. With everything that needs to go into dev, 100 is small
ENSHROUDED, my man.
Great Video ! have a nice day!
everyone is entitled to their opinions. have a nice day!
I think I missed something. Why are we mentioning pillars of eternity?
It's in the same world
My excitement for Avowed has stayed consistent.
I just realized you sound like a Australian Jerry Seinfeld
This game seems to be taking a more pragmatic approach then most, romance in RPG's always felt arbitrary, like it's just another side-quest to do because they are side characters in a video game, I've always treated romance options as part of a to-do list during a playthrough.
i think this game is officially downgraded into "wait for a sale" territory.
It will be on Gamepass on Day 1. You don't even have to buy it to try it.
@@Deadsea_1993 i don't have game pass and i wont be getting it.

Since when is everyone so mad when a videogame isn’t doodoo brown and dark in art style?
Re-spec makes it feel a lot less impactful and less special to pick something.. I like that my actions have consequences in games

I think it would be very deserved. There is a lot of valid criticism on what we've seen and heard
@@nonameddog "valid criticism on what we've seen and heard"
lmao, the validity has already been cemented months before launch? Seems like you need to find interest in other games then.
Noting that it’s gonna be on gamepass, it probably won’t sell the best but it will have a good amount of players
@@fazedankdoge4834gamepass games make more profit than spidertrash 2 and any other Sony shit show this gen.
No top ten game by Sony on the top ten games by revenue. Xbox at 3
Game quality? Sony won ZERO awards at TGAS...Xbox took home multiple.
Go away now
They always make incredible games but Xbox should expand that studio and give them the budget to make next gen looking games.
Huh? Avowed takes place in the PoE universe? That piqued my interest.
Not having a class system was my least favorite part about skyrim As well as mass effect Andromeda...
And not having romances is just🤮
Ruh roh !
Just like Microsoft, it seems Obsidian fumbles communication from time to time.
Avowed will be amazing
I've never played a game where the romance didn't feel tacked on with an optional "hey baby." flirt line.
It makes sense that they didn't wanna go that route or put effort into a deeper romance mechanic if it was proving too difficult.
Because they’re all virgins who never experienced real romance. It’s not hard they just can’t write for shit
Hard COPIUM and excuse making
I was hoping for an open world Eora RPG. What we're getting is a half assed action adventure. No thank you.
1 take away though is I want them to improve upon the combat systems that Bethesda created and really put Bethesda to shame in that specific aspect, if they can improve enemy AI/movement, and character combat/melee/movements that'll have the resources to elevate all their games to the next level moving forward.
my personal BIGGEST thing to tell people (IF YOU PLAYED WOW LOOK)
Druids are not what you expect them to be they are near Were-like Creature Hybrid shifters and they are TERRIFING!!!
I sometimes feel like the inability to respec is an excuse to artificially inflate game time, because if you want to try a new build you have to start all over again
i can see that
0 character classes, only human and elf as choices. Huge FAIL on the most important RPG aspects! Giant downgrade from Pillars.😢
Seems like an interesting game. And, I like the Obsidian games I’ve played. But, as PS player that is not possible anymore, so everything they and Bethesda develop is meh to me.
it will be a good game until the juggernauts like dragon age 4 or witcher come out
No classes 👎. I love classes in RPGs
I could honestly not care less about romancing companions. Maybe that's just me though.
I didn't liked the new trailer, the spells on the old trailer was so bad ass, so cool, Now is replaced by a lazy wand, I really didn't liked it.
100% the more we learn about the game the less I want to play it
@@Juan_Dominguez Indeed, I was so hyped, now I'm not, Not open world, no romance, no spells on hand is just wands, companions don't say their option on matters like fallout 4 and etc. I'm really not liking this game any more.
Dude wands are a weapon in pillars of eternity. You get spells asd well. U don't know what your talking about.
@@The_Gent. I respectfully have to disagree with OP. Who is to say that there won't be an option to use both ? We could already use Dragon Language and Mage staff weapons in Skyrim. This game might be similar with wands just being more concentrated magical weapons.
They have both
If stealth Archer isn't a play style I ain't playing it 😂
Why can't a game just be what the game is?
Right now there is no game. There's just marketing, and that marketing changed. Many people have naturally lost interest because of that.
No classes, only can play as a human or elf, are forced to take companions on quests which will probably make stealth really hard, and no romances. I don't think this game will be very good.
Cyberpunk 2077 is better rpg
Respec’ing is good if you don’t have time to play
Romance in games is cringy af, I wouldn't doubt it if the devs get weirded out by the occasional -request- demand to building this in
Yeah especially in most Rpgs.
Yeah I get it
im ok with there not being romance. Sometimes it feels tacked on and never feels meaningful or beneficial. And by sometimes, I mean most of the time
Not a Dragon Age clone then...
DA doesn't even have an identity because of how different the three games are
@@MerrillDragonAge.
Edit: 21:00 No no no no.. I completely disagree..
They dropped a CGI Trailer not Gameplay .. whatever people decided or expected the game to be is on them.. YOU wanted Skyrim, YOU wanted BG3 sized game, but that's not what THEY want to build.
The devs never said a word and didn't have to..
If you build something up in your head and it's not what you expected you can only BLAME YOURSELF..
6:30 the gameplay from the direct was Alpha footage..
There is a 25 min interview with the developers from Avowed on the Xbox Podcast..
Maybe you should react to it 🤔🤔🫡🫡
21:00 the obsession with having ROMANCE in every game is wild..
Most dudes in the comment section haven't ROMANCED the girl in their own friend group 😳😳😳😜😜😜..
007 didn't get the girl every damn mission... geez..
Let it go..
Do a mission, Go HOME lol... 😂😂🤣🤣
"Originally we were pitching, in essence, our Skyrim," confirms Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart in an exclusive interview with PC Gamer.
Nah I think I'll just skip this one
Is this Fallout new vegas 3?
romance is the least possible thing i care about lol
Yes, in real life I'm able to instantly learn skills and somehow completely forget my old ones whenever I do.
See how stupid your analogy is
@@regulator18E No because I said, " *More closely* matches real life." I did not say, "Exactly like real life".

I wanted a dark and gritty game not this bright colorful game. I'm going to skip this game
Turn down the gamma in the settings then. Problem solved 😂
Avowed is going to flop almost as bad as Redfall.
I've seen Redfall's number. The game would have to be extremely broken to reach those numbers
No pacifist is not difficult to reconcile.. unless ur a crybaby. Combat is part of the game.
I actually think the lack of romance options is a good thing. It avoids introducing identity politics into the game.
I found it laughable in Starfield and it was only OK with barely passing the minimum in Fallout 4.
it looks terrible
