Facts: Ukraine had the second largest army in Europe before the SMO with the larger tanks and artillery fleet than every European country besides Russia. It was also Nato trained for 8 years and funded by NATO even till now.
They initially lost 20% of their country to just 90,000 Russian soldiers in 2022 and had been demilitarized so badly till now to the point where the average age in the Ukrainian military is 43 years old according to Times Magazine. Russia also did one partial mobilization because in attrition, anyone would mobilize the *reserves* just like the US army in Vietnam
According to The Economist, Russia did most of this by just 3% of their GDP and 510,000 soldiers.

They probably don't have the time as Russian ISR is on top of them 24/7 and all that shelling can "complicate" things quite a bit.
Obviously no one can cover every square millimeter of ukraine so the ukrainians are banking on that, but it won't be as effective.
I also believe the collective west might not have the economic and logistic capability of supplying Ukraine with an unlimited number of mines or mining equipment or that ukraine has the trained personnel to pull of such things as they did before.

The Russian military has broken another record. Su-35S fighter jet of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down Ukrainian MiG-29 at a distance of more than 200 km. Ukrainian aircraft was reportedly attacked by the Russian R-37M long-range air-to-air missile, which covered a record distance of 213 kilometers. This is reportedly the record distance of destruction of a target by an aircraft missile. The MiG-29A fighter of the Ukrainian Air Force was reportedly spotted by Russian pilots at a distance of about 270 kilometers. The Ukrainian aircraft was struck when it was preparing to launch the US-made AGM-88B Block 3 HARM anti-radar missile. As a result of the strike, the target disappeared from Russian radar and did not come back to the Ukrainian airfield.
Currently, Russian R-37M hypersonic air-to-air missile is the most long-range guided air-to-air missile in the world. Its maximum range is 300 kilometers. The rocket has a launch mass of over half a ton, and the weight of its warhead is 60 kg. It is designed to destroy air targets, including enemy aircraft.

Slowly but very steadily your rate of troop losses is increasing, as does your loss of control over fortified front positions, and your ability to bring in reinforcements diminishes. Your rate of deterioration in all of these factors slowly but steadily intensifies every week. While your enemy's forces are getting stronger in every way.

NAFO and wehraboos still raving about lack of pincers and encirclements. Still sucking on good ole Manstein, Guderian and other losers.
Still haven't learn their lesson that its not about maneuver. Its about logistics and attrition. It's about production lines and their adaptability. It's about number of tubes per km of the front and number of shells per km2.
You can't _pincer_ your way across the modern battlefield even against a barely competent opponent who's armed with nothing but small arms and portable anti-armor.
    - More than half a trillion $ of NATO funding has been already wiped. It's working as long as they're sending it and as long as UKR have manpower.
By far the most valuable asset in this war are experienced units. That sh is irreplaceable. And that is why the things are starting to accelerate lately.

      @The_WatchList Місяць тому +5

I would add the caveat that, technically, encirclement does work quite well. Only against the right opponent, with the right situation set up, and the right battlefield. As an American, it worked well in the 1990s and 2000s against Iraq. However, this war is absolutely not neither of those wars. You can't "maneuver" around 50km minefields that are kilometers deep. Each bastion has to be physically taken by infantry. Do we have the capacity to stomach that? Materially, yes. Emotionally, spiritually? Perhaps, depends on how the public feels. Honestly, a conflict between the US/NATO and Russia depends on how well we fair against the massive volume of Russia anti-air. Everything depends on that. And I have no clue how that would go.

The russian objective has long passed just donetsk. They are way past that. Keep in mind even on the Wagner and Prego times, Pregozhin stated that at least 3 to 5 more years of fighting were to be expected. It has been a bit over 1 year since then, and the Russians have grown to want more as they wont accept anything but total surrender where as before they wanted some compromise.
If 1 year ago they anticipated 3-5 more years of fighting they are still thinking in that time zone or even bigger, they are prepared for it. That is why russia is not going to do a super duper offensive.
Also talking about the rate of fighting, Ukraine in the Avdiivka/Prokosv section is loosing way more than before, as you said they have company/batallion concentrations on some villages, but russians still hit them with fabs, which increases losses exponentially, hence why they can advance so quick. According to reports over 700 FABS were launched in less than a month. I would guess its close to 1k FABS per month, which Ukraine cannot sustain, especially if all the 1k FABS are concentrated in specific battle zones ie Kharkhiv, Bakhmut, Avdiivka

Not many the Donetsk region is the most populated, most economically and resource rich soviet ethalon oblast of the Former Ukrainian People's Republic
It has large cities 4 pcs of over 1 million population metropolitan areas
Donetsk and Luhansk, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Factory cities like Avdeevka, Krasnagorovka, Toretsk, Nui York, Lyman, Chasiv Yar, Pokrovsk...
Where the city was built around a factory only to keep the factory employed.
No oblasts in Ukraine are like the one in Donbass.
Its also the most valuable region of Ukraine in terms of minerals, raw resources, factory enterprises, production and trade.
      Ukraine lost it forever.
And after the Russians reach Pokrovsk which is a major logistical hub because of the railway.
The Ukrainians might won't have anyone to protect Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
And the villages in the West donetsk region won't offer much protection more so because the Ukrainians didn't build fortifications there.
And because of the vast land they need to cover it might be too late.

We all know that Stalin cosied up to Hitler in 1939. It was more out of necessity than anything else. He was no idiot. He knew the Nazis would come for Russia one day.
He even allowed Nazi stormtroopers to parade on Red Square. This whilst the UK was defiantly fighting for its life.
I can’t blame him though. Realpolitik and all that. It was though the brutal Soviet suppression of the Baltics,Poland, and Ukraine that made enemies of Mother Russia for a generation.
Finland did for Russia in 1940. Hitler noticed the weakness made worse by Stalin’s wipe out of the officer corps.
If he had gone south first and knocked the UK out of Suez Russia would have been doomed. Turkey and Sweden would have fallen into place and Baku’s oil lost.
Yet you had powerful allies in the UK and USA. I wish that had continued. I wish that the West hadn’t abused Russia when she was weak in the 1990’s.
You could have been a dignified and powerful ally. Instead you are in thrall to a sad little man, Iran, China, and North Korea.

But religion, rule style and culture of Western Roman Empire was implemented everywhere in Western Europe already.
East Roman Empire had hard and good times but existed for 1100 years and was conquered by Osman Empire entirely in XV century. But in 988 russian prince Vladimir married princess of East Roman Empire and accepted christianity. After his return to Ancient Russia he reorganized his government and state to be the same as East Roman Empire had. So Russia inherited the East Roman Empire's religion, rule style and culture. In XIII century Ancient Russia was fallen to Golden Horde, but was not destroyed entirely. Golden Horde established their control over territories and russian princes was forced to get their rights approved in Golden Horde and pay the fee. Population decreased, cities was burn in fire. But 250 years later Golden Horde started to rot from the inside and russians got enough strength to liberate and found a new russian state which became Russian Empire in 1721, Soviet Russia in 1918 and Russian Federation in 1991.
